T
his document contains the facts and events for 2016 and 2017. These were two very
important years in the definition of the perimeters of the Groupe Berkem and of all its
subsidiaries. We will not only cover the past years here, but will also present our goals
for the coming five years.
In 2016-2017, all Group companies were impacted by the acquisition of a company that is
complementary to their original business. These acquisitions require our teams to spend time,
ED
but also need a strong capacity for mutual attentiveness so that we can correctly understand
each of our businesses. Indeed, our will is not only to increase our market share through
these external growth operations. We also require to learn the businesses of the companies
that join us.
On the subject of the group’s industrial performances, they were excellent in 2016 but slightly
more complex in 2017 due to the significant increase in raw material costs in general.
We were forced to show industrial ingenuity and high performances to be able to carry on
developing our different projects without wavering from our will to succeed.
This document will show you a business organised around five main activities, working on all
chemical innovation markets.
Our theme for development is to be able to supply a large number of users with speciality
ITO HIST
chemical products, some of which are of natural origin.
It is not without a certain degree of pleasure that we can present a Group that fulfilled its
deployment plan. Indeed, today Groupe Berkem employs over 200 people with a consolidated
turnover of almost 55 million Euros. It was a team objective. Today, that same team’s objective
is to put the Group’s extensive internal knowledge in common. Other people’s expertise
makes us stronger and enriches us.
We also aim to steer this small industrial group through the technological transformation
we must all achieve, the digital transformation, so that our industrial business can be an
example in the matter. Of course, we are talking about future in factories, but also the
internet of things, etc.
RIAL ORY
In the previous issue of our institutional documentation, we discussed regulatory issues that
are at the forefront of chemical industry concerns.
The past two years were eventful. We are happy to confirm that the REACH files were
properly set up and that today, almost all our files have been processed in the Biocide
Regulation context.
We are delighted to be able to let you appreciate the Groupe Berkem through this institutional
brochure and would like to thank you for the time you will spend discovering our flourishing
business. Please don’t hesitate to enquire if you have any questions. We will be very happy
to answer them.
Enjoy!
Best regards,
Olivier FAHY

MARKETS AND REGULATORY PRESSURE
For fifteen years, regulations governing the use of chemical substances within the European
Union have been becoming stricter for everyone involved. These regulations endeavour to
make the use of pure substances or substances contained in "mixtures" (or preparations) or in
(finished) products safe. The objectives of the regulations: better control the risks and dangers
relative to production and use of chemical substances in order to improve the levels of pro-
tection for citizens, workers and the environment. They all contribute to increasingly involve
22 23chemical sector industrials. They are responsible for managing chemicals and supplying information to their
users. This responsibility means that all the links in the activity chain, from the producer to the customer,
must have the same level of information. Each of the substances and preparations produced and used, are:
• assessed for dangers and risks,
• checked in terms of harmlessness and effectiveness,
• and at the most, registered.
The main regulations covering Groupe Berkem's activities:
• Cosmetics regulations

• The Food Supplements Directive
