State requirements frequently change and students are responsible for ensuring they have the
required, valid and up to date clearances. Please ensure that you lodge all clearance
applications as early as possible as these can sometakes take months to process.
Copies of all certificates and screenings must be submitted to InSchool office prior to the
confirmation of a placement. Please send scanned copies to InSchool@cdu.edu.au

DCSI Child-Related Employment Screening
All students are required to have a current and valid DCSI Child-Related Employment
Screening Certificate. You cannot begin placement until you have received your certificate.
This process is now via an online system.
You are required to:
   1. Email InSchool@cdu.edu.au with your full name and student number.
   2. The InSchool Team will initiate the process on your behalf via the online system.
   3. You will then be contacted by the DCSI Screening Unit to complete the process. You
will need to provide certified copies of your identification documents (i.e. signed by a
      Justice of the Peace).
   4. Please ensure you check your “Junk Mail” and “Pop” email boxes as the DCSI emails
have been found to go straight to these locations.

Reporting Abuse and Neglect Training Requirements
South Australian requirements for Safety and Wellbeing and Reporting Abuse and Neglect
change frequently. Please ensure that you have completed the appropriate training for your
degree and your certificates are valid and up to date. Please use the following flowcharts to
identify the minimum requirement for your placements. You cannot begin placement until
you have received your certificate.

Online Updates

The DECD Online Update is ONLY VALID if a full day, 7 hour face-to-face certificate is
submitted with the update certificate. Note that the online update must have been completed
prior to the expiration of the 7 hour-face-to-face training. An Online Update Certificate will not
be valid without the original full day training certificate, even if you have a DECD Employee
Number.
Please note that the current RAN-EC online update course is only available to people who
have previously completed:
   1. the RAN-EC full day training between 2009 and 2014, or
   2. the RAN-EC online update course 2012 to 2014.
If the last time you completed training was before 2009, you will need to complete the RAN-
EC full day training.

If you have a DECD Employee Number

In some cases, DECD has allowed 7 hour face-to-face training certicates to be accepted even
if it was completed at a Non-Approved Training Organisation. If you have a 7 hour face-to-
face certificate from a Non-Approved Training Organisation, yet you have a current DECD
Employee Number and currently work for DECD, then this certificate can be accepted if you
complete the DECD Online Update as well. Both certificates and evidence of employment with

     Guidelines for South Australia 4
DECD need to be provided. The online update can be found here:
http://rantraining.e3learning.com.au/

What happens if I can’t find my certificate?

If you cannot locate your certificates, you will need to contact the organisation through which
you completed your training. You must provide evidence from the training organisation that
you completed the full day 7 hour face-to-face course, the date of completion, and location of
attendance. If you cannot get a new certificate or evidence of completing the course, you will
need to repeat the training.

Undergraduate Students

The following flowchart should be used by Undergraduate Students to identify their minimum
requirement. All certificates need to be valid. Please check the expiry dates.

Applying for Teacher Registration with the TRB SA
During your final semester of study, you may begin to prepare your registration documents to
register a teacher in South Australia. Pre-organising your documents with the Teacher’s
Registration Board of South Australia means that once you finish your degree with CDU, the
registration process can occur much more efficiently. To do this, you will need to:
   1. View the TRB SA Website and registration requirements
https://www.trb.sa.edu.au/registration and follow the registration process.
   2. Organise the relvant documents required for registration.
   3. Proceed to submit your application, pending your final transcript.
   4. Once you complete your degree with CDU and you nomiante to graduate, you can opt
for CDU to send your final transcript directly to the TRB SA for faster processing of
      your teacher registration.
   5. Please note that all graduates seeking registration from the 1st January 2019 onwards
will require successful completion of the Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial
      Teacher Education (LANTITE).

   6. Please note that you can only undertake the LANTITE test while you are enrolled in a
university degree. Ensure that you plan to do this whilst studying at CDU. It is a good
idea to take the tests during a window that will allow you to re-sit the test prior to
completion if required. Please visit the following website for more information:
      https://teacheredtest.acer.edu.au/

LANTITE: Literacy and Numeracy Tests
All graduates seeking registration with the TRB SA must pass the LANTITE test prior to
registering as a teacher. This test must be undertaken whilst enrolled in a university
 education course.
Over the past few years, there have been many changes in regards to completion of the
LANTITE test and the connection to graduating from your university degree. To clarify this,
 please note the following:

     Guidelines for South Australia 8
 Many state departments and school sectors require you to sit and pass the LANTITE
test as a condition of registration. If you plan to teach in a state other than South
Australia, please ensure that you check that state’s departments/sector
        requirements.
 Most of the education courses at CDU require LANTITE as a condition of graduation
(i.e. new courses such as the WEDP01, WEDS01, MTeach (STCH01)), so please
check this with your course coordinator.

 Some courses in ‘teach out’, such as BEDEC, BEDP, all BEDS courses, do not
require LANTITE as a condition of graduation. However, AITSL is requiring that this
be build into these courses and applied. It is therefore recommended that these
students sit and pass the test.
Regardless, if you want to register as a teacher in South Australia, you WILL NEED to sit
and pass the LANTITE test whilst enrolled in your teaching degree.

How can I prepare for the LANTITE test?

It is important that you undertake some preparation prior to sitting for the LANTITE test. We
 recommend that you:
     View the https://teacheredtest.acer.edu.au/
 Familiarise yourself with the preparation and practice tests provided by ACER
        https://teacheredtest.acer.edu.au/prepare
 Review the LANTITE LearnLine site to access practice tests and resources.
 Review and practice Year 9 NAPLAN tests.
 Identify suitable test windows so that you have the opportunity to re-sit the test prior
to completing your degree if required. Please note that there are only 4 test windows
        per year

 Ensure that you have budgeted accordingly to pay for the tests ($196.00 for both
        components).
 Review and contact ACER regarding remote proctering (undertaking the test at your
computer with live supervision if you cannot attend a test centre)
        https://teacheredtest.acer.edu.au/register/remote-proctoring

Professional Learning and Support in South Australia
Since 2014, the College of Education has had a lecturer based in South Australia to support
the needs of local students. The support comes in the form of:
 Direct contact to SA students regarding SA related teaching information (i.e. teacher
registration information and external professional learning and workshops).
 Face-to-face professional learning workshops held at the CDU Adelaide Learning
Centre (100 Smart Road, Modbury, Tea Tree Gully, SA). These workshops are held
during Semester 1 and 2, with details of the program sent dirctly to SA students prior
to the beginning of each semester. The workshops are normally held on a Friday
morning. Please view the program for updated details, dates and topics.
 Support to students, mentors and schools before, during and after completion of
        professional experience placements.
 Facilitating the Safety and Wellbeing program for SA undergraduate students.
Please note that the Senior Lecturer, Dr Lisa Papatraianou, who has been based in SA since
2014 will be on maternity leave for 2019. A part-time replacement lecturer will be taking on
the SA responsibilities during this time. Details of this appointment will be advised to SA
students via email in January of 2019. If you have any queries, please email
 Education.SA@cdu.edu.au
The CDU Adelaide Learning centre is not available as a ‘drop in’ support centre as the
centre is not permanently staffed. Please ensure that you contact the SA lecturers via email
(Education.SA@cdu.edu.au) Meetings at the centre are by appointment only.
