Your Domestic Waste Services Guide Orange City Council’s Waste Services are now more efficient in helping to save valuable resources from landfill. Audits of local waste have shown that the average household red lid waste bin contains between 40-60% of food and garden waste. The introduction of the food and garden waste bin will help to divert this type of waste from landfill and reduce the production of greenhouse gas as well as saving valuable landfill space. This provides the community with a sustainable waste management system.

ServiceFood and Garden Waste Collection Service - weekly
This service allows residents to divert food and garden waste from around the home, away from landfill, reducing
the production of greenhouse gas, as well as saving valuable landfill space.
The food and garden waste will be collected and taken to the Resource Recovery Centre at Ophir Road where it
will be shredded and transported in enclosed trucks to the composting facility at Euchareena Road, Molong. The
food and garden waste will be composted in a closed tunnel system and converted into a high quality compost. Food &

Food and Garden Waste Collection ServiceRecycling Collection Services - fortnightly
Place all the recyclables listed below in the yellow lid recycling bin. This reduces the amount of waste
sent to landfill as the recycling is transported to the Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) at VISY Recycling
in Sydney. Here it is sorted by a combination of hand and machine processes. The sorted RECYCLED
materials are then sent to reprocessing factories to be made into new items.
When you recycle you save valuable resources from being lost forever to landfill. Recycling
You also save landfill space. Making products from recycled materials, rather Fortnightly
than from raw natural resources, saves energy as well as water and other natural
resources for future generations. Also try buying products made with recycled
content. This is called ‘closing the loop’ ensuring a continuation of the process.
