The Information Specialist will provide you with the
most up-to-date information to ensure your safety
Green Sleeve
The Green Sleeve is a plastic pocket that contains
an individual’s advanced care planning forms. It
would hold legal forms that would go with the
person through the health care system and allows
medical professionals to determine their health care
wishes.
This can be attained through any Alberta Health
Care provider such as a family doctor or a nurse and
keeps things like personal directives, goals of care
designation and tracking records in an accessible
location.

Old Age Security Pension – OAS
Can collect at 65, but you do not need to be retired
Must have been a legal resident of Canada for at
least 10 years
Guaranteed Income Supplement – GIS
GIS is available to seniors who receive OAS pension
and have little or no other income
GIS requires an application and when processed
(which takes about 6 months) gets added to the
OAS pension

Allowance/Allowance for the Survivor
paid to spouse or common law partner of a senior
receiving GIS
be age 60-64 and have lived in Canada a minimum
of 10 years
must not be voluntarily separated or divorced from
partner
Canada Pension Plan – CPP
CPP is contributed through your employment or self-
employment.
There are different CPP benefits and you are eligible
if you have made one valid contribution.
Survivor Benefits – two types of survivor benefits for
seniors
The CPP death benefit is a one-time payment on
behalf of a deceased CPP contributor
The Survivor Pension is a monthly pension paid to the
surviving spouse or common law partner of a
deceased contributor
Provincial Government Programs

The government of AB offers the following financial and
resource assistance programs for seniors: (must be 65
and have been in AB at least 3 months)

To apply for these programs, you must complete a
Seniors Financial Assistance Application Form. (need only
apply once)
AB Seniors Financial Assistance
AB Seniors Benefit program provides an income
supplement in addition to federal income sources
including OAS and GIS
Income qualifications adjust annually so you can call
the AB Supports Contact Centre or Community Links
to access the current threshold
A senior would need to qualify for the AB Financial
Assistance program to access the Special Needs
Assistance Program
Special Needs Assistance for Seniors
The program provides a maximum assistance of
$5000 a benefit year
Assistance is available for allowable special needs
such as appliances, home repairs and some medical
expenses.
Dental and Optical Assistance for Seniors
The Dental Assistance program provides basic
dental coverage according to an approved benefit
schedule to a maximum of $5000 every 5 years
The Optical Assistance program provides assistance
to a maximum of $230 towards the purchase of
prescription eyeglasses every three years

Seniors Property Tax Deferral Program
Available since 2013, this program will allow senior
homeowners to defer all or part of their annual
property tax through a low-interest home equity loan
with the province
Seniors Home Adaptation and Repair Program
(S.H.A.R.P)
S.H.A.R.P provides low interest home equity loans for
home repairs, adaptations and renovations for
seniors
This can include things like plumbing, heating,
electrical, roof repairs, widening doorways, windows
replacement and stair lifts.

their health condition, with the sickest patients being

Urgent Care team consists of nurses, nurse
practitioners, and physicians. The center is also
supported by a full-service laboratory and x-ray
department. Laboratory and x-ray services can also
be accessed by patients who have been referred by
their family physician

We provide information, resources and support to
individuals who reside in the North Rockyview region.
To obtain information, resources and support, call
the number and ask for intake
Intake will gather initial information about who you
are, and what you need. If necessary they will refer
you on to other services within the agency, Eg:
Counselling, Seniors’ Specialists, or access to the Toy
Library for when grandkids are about to visit.
Specific Programs & Services Community Links
offers for Seniors are:
Assessment of All Needs – basic needs, safety,
financial, housing, health, social, emotional,
transportation and advocacy. This can be
done with an office appointment or when
necessary, a home visitation.
Caregivers Support Group – This group meets
montly the third Tuesday of each month at
Community Links from 1:30pm-3:00pm. This is a
support group for caregivers that offers support,
educational information and community
resources.
Educational Presentations – On the third
Wednesday of each month from September
until June, there are FREE presentations held at

the Over 50 Club. Eg. Personal Directives,
Seniors Benefits, Heart Health & Downsizing
Forms Support – For financial and resource
applications
Friendly Visiting Program – (supports isolated
seniors) This is a program that offers 1 hour
weekly companionship in the seniors home, with
supportive visits from a volunteer who has similar
interests. eg: playing cards, sharing stories or
going for walks
Income Tax Program – This program is in
collaboration with Revenue Canada and is free
for someone who has a simple, straight forward
tax return under an income threshold
Monthly Seniors Outreach Newsletter – Bi-
monthly publication about social and
educational events taking place at the Over 50
Club, Community Links events and others in the
community. This is distributed to many
community outlets. Call Community Links to be
placed on the email list or find a location near
you.
Seniors Week Celebration – Community Links
collaborates with Bethany Airdrie, Luxstone
Manor, The Hamlets at Cedarwood Station,
Over 50 Club, A Friend Indeed and community

seniors, the first week of June.
Transportation Program to Calgary – This is a
volunteer run program for seniors who need
transportation to Calgary for medical
appointments. The volunteer stays in Calgary
while you are having your appointment, waiting
for your return trip back to Airdire. A minimum
of one weeks’ notice is required. This program
does accept donations.
Volunteer Program - At Community Links there
are many volunteer opportunites, Eg. Donations,
friendly visiting and special events, to name a
