DESCRIPTION OF JOURNEY:
For many visitors to South Africa, there is no finer way to see the country than on the popular 48-
hour weekly journeys between Pretoria and Cape Town. This 1600-kilometre journey is a perfect
illustration of South Africa as a world in one country. Travel the grasslands of the gold-rich
Highveld to the haunting barrenness of the Great Karoo. Trundle through the spectacular
mountain ranges and scenic wine lands of the Cape.
Journey's end is Cape Town, the Mother City of South Africa, cradled by the imposing bulk of Table
Mountain, Devil's Peak and Lions Head. Highlights of the north and southbound routes include a
visit to the historic village of Matjiesfontein. This authentic perfectly preserved Victorian Village,
which was founded by Mr Logan as a refreshment stop in 1890, also boasts an impressive museum
on the platform.
A stop is also made in Kimberley providing an opportunity to enjoy a city tour and a visit to the
Diamond Mine Museum and the world's largest man-made excavation, the Big Hole.

We cannot be held liable for any delays due to trains not running to schedule. Off-train excursions
cannot be guaranteed and will only be undertaken if time and circumstances permit. Departure
and arrival times are approximate and cannot be guaranteed. We reserve the right to alter our
routing at any time between departure and arrival points.
CHANGES:
Rovos Rail reserves the right to amend the tour price at any time prior to written confirmation of
the reservation. Rovos Rail further reserves the right to cancel or amend any sight seeing
excursions or the tour departure dates provided they can offer the passenger alternative sight-
seeing excursions or departure dates. Rovos Rail is not responsible for any delay or changes in tour
arrangements that may be caused by natural or other factors beyond the control of Rovos Rail.
There will be no refunds for any part of the tour that might be missed due to personal reasons.

PASSPORTS & VISAS:
The onus is upon the client to ensure that passports and visas, as may be required, are valid.
HEALTH:
Passengers are advised that if visiting Zimbabwe, Zambia, Tanzania, Kruger Park, Swaziland and
Victoria Falls anti-malarial precautions should be taken as may be prescribed.
PRICES:
We will do our utmost to keep to the prices published. If however, increases are forced on us we
reserve the right, prior to confirmation, to amend the tour price. Provisional Reservations: No
deposits will be requested. Space will be allocated and held, but if definite suites are required by
another client, the holding agent will be requested to either hand back a portion of the space or
confirm, in which case the above conditions apply.
RESERVATIONS/ PAYMENT - LESS THAN 10 PASSENGERS:
• A 25% deposit at the time of booking and confirmation.
• The balance is payable 8 weeks before departure.
RESERVATIONS / PAYMENT – MORE THAN 10 PASSENGERS:
• A 10% non-refundable deposit 6 months prior to travel
• A further 10% non-refundable deposit 4 months before departure
• The non-refundable balance is payable 8 weeks before departure
thus, between 16-8 weeks the booking could be reduced to 20% of the
original number of passengers without financial loss to the client/ Agent

Please Note: Cancellation fees will not be waived. We strongly advise that trip cancellation
insurance be purchased.
Cancellations received more than 8 weeks prior to departure are subject to a cancellation fee of
5% of the per person tour price.
Cancellations received between 8 and 4 weeks prior to departure are subject to a fee of 25% of
the per person tour price.
Cancellations received within the 4-week period are subject to forfeiture of the entire tour price.

We will then start the reservation process and once we have received confirmation from all the
parties involved, we will send you an invoice with payment details. Once full payment has been

Welgevonden is one of the largest privately owned reserves in South Africa, covering 37 000
hectares of pristine bushveld in the malaria-free Waterberg region. Welgevonden is home to over
50 different mammals, including the Big Five, and boasts one of the largest populations of white
rhino on a private reserve anywhere in Africa. There are rare and unusual species too, such as
brown hyena, aardwolf and aardvark. It is the diversity of habitat on the reserve that encourages
such a wide range of wildlife as well as over 300 bird species.
No private vehicles are permitted, which ensures minimal human impact and the ultimate
wilderness experience. Historically, wildlife on the reserve has never been hunted so game viewing
is always up close and personal. There is also ancient and delicate Bushman rock art on
Welgevonden.
We offer two exciting game drives daily (only one is included in this package). Morning drive starts
at 06.00AM with a coffee/tea stop during the drive. Breakfast is served upon returning. Afternoon
drive starts at 16.00PM including a sundowner stop with drinks and snacks. Private game drives
can be arranged upon request and an extra charge.
Guided walks are offered, usually in the mornings after breakfast, but can be arranged at other
times. Guests will be briefed before their excursions into the wild. The rangers will give informal
tuition regarding the procedures to be adhered to on the guided walks.

The Royal Suites, each of which take up half a carriage, are spacious and elegant, measuring ±16
square metres in size (±172 square feet). Each has its own private lounge area and full bathroom
with Victorian bath and separate shower.
DELUXE SUITE
The Deluxe Suites ( ±11 square metres/±118 square feet) also accommodate two passengers in
either twin or double beds and have a lounge area and en-suite bathroom with shower.
PULLMAN SUITE
The Pullman Suites (±7 square metres/±76 square feet) are equipped with a comfortable sofa-seat

DINING CAR
Exquisite pillared dining cars are a signature of the Rovos Rail trains. Each one has a proud history
and has been meticulously restored from a derelict state. The Dining Cars were faithfully crafted,
restoring the Victorian atmosphere. Each of the trains has two air-conditioned 42-seater dining
cars to accommodate the maximum complement of 72 passengers in total comfort at one sitting.
LOUNGE CAR
Deep sofas and wing back chairs make for an extremely comfortable car in which guests nodding
off for an afternoon snooze are a common sight. As with all the service cars the lounges are air-
conditioned, yet the windows can be opened allowing in the sights, sounds and scents of Africa.
OBSERVATION CAR
The air-conditioned Observation Car seats 32 passengers and is positioned at the rear of the train.
It has enlarged windows and a unique open air balcony, offering guests the opportunity to sit
outside and gaze at the African landscape on the slowly moving train.
