"We must leave room for the
unexpected and the extraordinary
that sometimes requires leaps of faith
- towards issues or organizations that
are unfamiliar or new."
- David Weekley
Accelerating Human Flourishing
The David Weekley Family Foundation is a Christian
faith motivated foundation that invests time, treasure,
and talent in organizations that promote human
flourishing. We work with organizations that use funds
effectively, do the most with the least, and love their
neighbors with generosity, excellence and scale.
Through the Acceleration Portfolio, DWFF will invest in
30 African organizations with annual budgets under
$300,000USD that are deeply rooted in their
communities, have enterprising leadership, and have
ambition to grow their impact. By pairing unrestricted
funding with capacity support, our goal is to help
organizations to lay the groundwork they need to
access greater opportunities and funding.
ACCELERATION PORTFOLIO 2Funding
Depending on the organization’s budget size, DWFF
will award grants of $15,000USD or $25,000USD
per year. Partners that show ambition, progress
against goals, and achievement of milestones will be
eligible for funding for up to three years.
Capacity
Working with Uganda-based Mighty Ally Institute
through a mix of practical workshops, peer-to-peer
support and individual coaching, partners will
access knowledge, tools and resources to clarify
their model, tell their story, engage with
stakeholders, and grow their organization.
Acceleration
Through their progress on milestones and
deliverables, as well as peer-to-peer learning,
partners will advance their strategic goals, expand
their impact and grow their networks. Those that
fit our partnership criteria will be eligible to apply
for follow-on funding with DWFF.
ACCELERATION PORTFOLIO 3Criteria
Organizations that best fit the Acceleration Portfolio criteria will have:
An annual expense budget under $500,000USD/year, usually under
$300,000USD/year
At least two years of continual operation
An official government non-profit/NGO registration in their country
of operation
An official, governing Board of Directors
A focus on one of DWFF’s four priority sectors: health, livelihoods,
justice, education (early education, primary or secondary)
Application Process
If your organization meets the Acceleration Portfolio criteria and you
are interested in the capacity support as described above, we invite
you to apply!
Tell us about your work using this short application.
Include a 1-minute video of your organization’s leader explaining
the impact of your organization. Production value is not important -
we will happily accept recorded Zoom calls or cell phone videos
filmed in your kitchen.
Provide one letter of recommendation from a person who knows
your organization and work. A good reference might be a leader in
your community from a government office, educational institution,
business or faith community. A long time partner or funder of your
organization is another great option.
If it looks like there might be a fit, a DWFF team member will email
to schedule a call with the leader of your organization.
If your work is not a match for the Acceleration Portfolio at this
time, you will hear back by August 15. We apologize in advance,
but due to the volume of applications, it may not be possible to
provide individual feedback to each organization.
