Astrological patterns are recognized in terms of the meaning
that we bring to inner and outer experiences,
although we are perhaps in turn predisposed to the quality
of our experiences by the patterns themselves.
However, rather than trying to pre-empt fate,
to ward it off or pretend it does not exist,
we may perhaps work with it as consciously as we are able:
thus we participate in the alchemical opus,
the hero’s journey, the philosopher's stone,
or the finding of the long lost kingdom.

                Chiron and the Healing Journey
         An Astrological and Psychological Perspective
                     By Melanie Reinhart

The above quote is from a book on Chiron (the Shamanic Healer)
and YET also very much describes the Pluto process especially
when Jupiter is involved. I find it interesting that I wrote the
article below before remembering this quote I have loved for over 20 years from Melanie
Reinhart. I have quoted this before in other writings I have done over the years…

It feels like the perfect way to begin introducing the concepts shared below.

The intent of this article is to inspire all who read it to discover your own alchemical opus within -
transforming your base elements into the golden light of who you truly are!

The Alchemy of Jupiter and Pluto
Jupiter catches up to Pluto every 12 to 13 years. In the table at the end of this document you can
see there is a rare series of three exact Jupiter/Pluto conjunctions in 2020 meeting in Capricorn on
April 4, June 29/30 and November 12, 2020.

Jupiter

                                      Pluto

Jupiter and Pluto are within 10 degrees of each other from January 30, 2020 into early 2021
around Jan 6 or 7. These planets are within 5 degrees or closer from the end of February 2020 to
mid-December 2020. This close proximity to each other for so many months lets us know we are in
a time of great alchemy especially when we also add Saturn’s impact on this alignment.

What does it mean?
Jupiter expands our awareness and sense of what is possible and provides for a renewed vision of
how we are living together here on Earth - if we are open to receive it?

Pluto removes any obstacles that may be present in bringing these possibilities and visions into
form – taking us deep into the shadow realms to root out and transform the fears and limiting
beliefs we may not even be aware we have.

Pluto is the deep dive into what is holding us back and Jupiter expands the possibilities suggesting
we will either remain lost in the fear and limitations that are holding us back from co-creating our
own experience OR we will surrender to the alchemical process of transformation and be
empowered in ways we haven’t yet imagined.

It is not easy and it is most likely not fun to have our shadow side so in our face. This includes our
worst (and best) parts of ourselves that we have disowned and denied. The saying you can run but
you cannot hide applies to the configuration. However, running and trying to hide makes this
process more INTENSE and way more difficult than it needs to be.

Ideally, this is the time to willingly allow ourselves to die to who we think we are so we can be
reborn to who we really are. The good news is when we surrender and allow – the glorious
transformation possible is beyond anything we have ever imagined.

Dane Rudhyar had Pluto (09 Gemini) and Jupiter (27 Gemini) in Gemini about
18 degrees apart with Mars (12 Gemini) and Neptune (13 Gemini) loosely
linking them together. So although it wasn’t a conjunction in the standard sense
he was born a few months after the exact conjunction that happened the year
before. Gemini bends and even breaks the rules so we could imagine that he
felt the effects of this configuration his entire life.

Dane Rudhyar perceived Pluto at its highest level was about focusing and beaming galactic
energies to the Earth and to humanity. He felt this was especially true for those who were ready to
assume their unique divine expression and destiny. He saw Pluto as the way to experience a
profound deep dive into what is seated in our psyche, especially the fears that prevent us from
embracing what is truly ours to do.

Facing and Embracing Our Shadow
This reminds us that to successfully embrace our destiny we
must first face our shadow – including all the limiting beliefs
we might have along with all the grief, anger and hurt we may
have suppressed. These beliefs often test our sense of self and
who we take ourselves to be.

In a culture that has believed there are not enough resources
for everyone to thrive, the shadow expression of this belief has
manifested in our current economic and cultural reality with a
handful of people with all the wealth and many left out
altogether.

Those at the top have found ways to justify their power and
wealth grab at the expense of others forgetting we are all
connected and at some point the harm done to others -
ultimately finds its way back to those who have perpetrated the harm.

Pluto in Capricorn is shining a spotlight on these shadow expressions that are infused throughout
many cultures on the planet at this time.

Jupiter joins Pluto magnifying that spotlight for the purpose of
shining the light of awareness where needed - so we have a
better chance of transforming whatever is holding us back from
knowing our true divine nature - moving beyond possibility and
potential, to manifesting as an actuality in this reality.

To have the experience of our empowered self, we must
choose it! AND and then be willing to transform anything and
everything in the way of experiencing our empowered true
divine self.

Yes, it will most likely be scary. Yes, it will most likely be challenging and difficult. Yes, it may feel
threatening to our known reality but we can already see the changes are manifesting in ways
beyond our control. All we can do to meet the intent of this initiation is surrender and trust it is
transforming us into a more empowered expression of who we are meant to be.

It is Underworld Initiation
This Jupiter Pluto line up is a powerful underworld
initiation for planet Earth and all who live here. This
combination is designed to activate the Magnum Opus or
“Great Work” within as defined by the ancient alchemists
in creating the Philosopher’s Stone, a legendary
alchemical substance that has the power to turn base
elements - mercury and uranium etc - into Gold or the
elixir of life, enlightenment, the heavenly bliss of the New
Earth. YES!

Jupiter and Pluto together creates a collective opportunity
to purify our thoughts, words, feelings and actions so they
become the gold, the elixir, the Philosopher’s Stone of our
existence.

This means working with the prima matera (first matter – within ourselves) so it is transformed
and then we are magically empowered by our growing awareness, growing love, and growing
wisdom.

Questions Worth Considering?

Are you willing to surrender and face your deepest fears?

Are these fears in front of you even if you aren’t willing to face them?

Are you in denial of what scares you, blaming others rather than looking at what is really going on
for you?

Are you experiencing events beyond your control that are bringing up fears you didn’t even know
you had?

Are you at the effect of addictions, expectations, limited perspectives that are holding you back
from experiencing the magnificence of your true self?

Are you embracing what scares you - trusting that doing so will ultimately empower you in ways
you haven’t yet imagined?

Part 2
The Alchemy of Natal Jupiter and Pluto Conjunctions
(applies to squares and oppositions too)
On April 5, 2020 my first grandbaby Gryffin Ryder
entered this world with a nearly exact Pluto Jupiter
conjunction in Capricorn (shown here at 2.5 months
old).

Two months earlier, in February 2020 I was on an
astrology panel at the Conscious Life Expo sitting
between two astrologer’s who were talking about how
this year’s Jupiter Pluto conjunction was an amazingly
fortunate combination - especially for the economy.

Interestingly other astrologers have a different opinion
about this including Peter Burns who researched this
topic here and found that Jupiter Pluto is not always a
great time economically and in fact often represents a
collapse of the old structure - especially when in
Cancer or Capricorn - ideally so something more vital
and supportive to all on planet Earth can emerge.
However, that hasn’t always been the case in the past.

In 2020, Jupiter and Pluto are joined by Saturn in a rare
convergence of these three planets that haven’t been together in Capricorn for about 733 years.
Jupiter and Pluto come together every 13 years. Jupiter and Saturn come together every 20 years
and Saturn and Pluto come together on average every 34 years so this triple conjunction is
definitely a rare line-up.

Jupiter Pluto Natal Conjunction
I have often been told how fortunate I am to have the powerful alchemy of
Jupiter Pluto conjunct in Leo within 2.5 degrees on my natal chart with
Jupiter less than half a degree from my Midheaven. However, I have been
skeptical and have had trouble seeing it as something extraordinarily
fortunate. It is only more recently that I have begun to see the gifts of this
combination as I continue to transmute the challenges of my early life.

The Catalytic Effects of Jupiter Pluto
Those with Jupiter Pluto find they are often Catalysts for those around them
especially when more personal parts of the chart are involved. In my case, Grandbaby Gryffin Zoom shot on
                                                                                       Father’s Day 2020
Pluto and Jupiter are conjunct my Mid-heaven, opposite my Mercury and
Square My Ascendant/Descendant axis. In other words, it is a very personal
signature for me.

I definitely have been - and continue to be - a catalyst (often a shadow
magnet) for those around me as well as for myself. This quality of
catalyzing shadow showed up before I was born. I share more about
how this has occurred in the italicized notes below.

If someone you know - or you yourself have - Pluto and Jupiter within
10 degrees on your natal chart then you carry this as a personal
signature, although the closer the conjunction the more potent the
affect tends to be.

How this powerful combination manifests in a person’s life is largely up
to the individual choices one makes. There are many examples of well-
known people with this combination who have led extraordinary lives
and others who have gone down a dark road. (See the section on
Famous People)
                                                                                   Around 1962 when I was 6
Many astrologers describe this natal aspect as ranging from inspired to
domineering leadership. It often is a signature for someone who is seeking power and control,
driven by an ambitious desire to make it BIG in the world. Said another way – there is often a
desire to succeed dramatically through power and control over others.

Spectacular or dramatic success and being a domineering leader is not what motivates me. If I
happen to inspire others I am happy to do that but I have been mostly shy of being in the spotlight.
I have been facing my fear of being seen most of my life. I have made progress and am now more
visible in the world these days but I am definitely not interested in being an out front leader. I still
prefer to work behind the scenes or work in collaboration where I can shine with others when
possible.

Other Pluto Jupiter Traits
Additional descriptions of the Jupiter Pluto combination include intense drive, persistence,
determined focus and a tendency to be ruthless. Many warn against becoming obsessed, fanatical,
zealous or self-righteous. The push for power - with Jupiter magnifying this possibility - can be a
highly corrupting influence if not connected to a higher purpose that includes making a positive
difference in the world.

Interestingly, Pluto is ultimately about empowerment, but when healthy this is not the distorted
version of power that comes from the outside, as in gaining power over others, or a need to be
significant at any cost – but rather the empowerment that comes from within – when you realize
your Being or Presence is a gift.

Whenever Jupiter Pluto shows up as domination and control it is the shadow expression that
comes from repressed fear and an unhealthy desire to be seen as significant no matter the cost.

Remember Pluto shines the light on our shadow side so we can face our fears and transform
them. The intent is NOT to have power over others but rather to be strong and vital in the power
of who we are from the inside out.

Jupiter expands. So when Jupiter is with Pluto, this combination is either expanding the drive for
power over others, or expanding the drive for empowerment by doing the deeper alchemical
shamanic transformative inner work. From a healthy inner sense of power - those with Jupiter
Pluto conjunct are NOT driven to do whatever it takes to have big success in the outer world but
rather are cultivating inner strength, inner knowing, inner empowerment. It is not an easy journey
to discover your own inner strength but it is well worth the results.

As someone with a Pluto Jupiter conjunction in Leo – my personal quest has
been an inner journey to discover the truth of who I really am. As a child I was
treated as less than important. I had no importance or significance and was
often reminded how I ruined my father’s life by being born. Part of me
believed what I was being told. Another part of me knew I would find a
better, more loving, way to treat my children than how my parents treated
me.

Their conditioning and upbringing included using domination and control to
terrorize me into bending to their will. Punishments were harsh. They were
always right and never wrong. I was always wrong and seldom valued for my
perspective or insights. I was often criticized and made to feel that I was
unimportant and unloved. Because I was controlled and harshly punished I Senior Picture 1974
knew I never wanted to inflict that kind of pain on anyone else.

I do remember being shocked to the core of my being when at about age 16 - my mother told me
she thought my greatest gift was my innate kindness. I didn’t think I ever showed any kindness to
my parents because mostly I felt tremendous anger and a great deal of pain from their desire to
dominate me into submission.

That is the only complement I remember. Well, my father would sometimes complement me on my
looks when he molested me so that doesn’t really count. Mostly he took delight in telling me how I
ruined his life and would say - just wait until you have kids - as if it was the worst curse ever.

After I was married with children, my father told me that even though I was a very pretty girl he
pitied any poor man who would marry me because he didn’t like my attitude. That was one of the
last things he ever said to me as he was disowning me and never spoke to me again. Something I
now realize was a gift he gave me and my children releasing us from having to deal with his
extreme narcissism.

I very rarely expressed my hurt feelings as a child because it wasn’t safe. Instead I was sullen and
quiet. Occasionally I would fight back but that only got me in more trouble, so I silently told myself I
would create a more loving, considerate life for myself when I left home - and for my children, if I
ever had any.

I was conflicted about having children. I was terrified and yet I had such a strong desire to do a
better job than what had been done to me. I have 4 amazing children (only 1 of them was actually
planned) all now grown amazing adults in their 30’s. So, in that sense I feel extraordinarily
fortunate – maybe a Jupiter Pluto gift?

Facing Fears and Uncertainty

Pluto, magnified by Jupiter, is asking you to face whatever scares you,
whatever causes you to tremble inside, to feel terrified of showing up,
causes you to feel less than important, causes you to feel deep inner
pain, causes you to feel you need outside validation.

If these fears, if this pain remains unconscious it may cause you to seek
ways to feel powerful and important from the outside – to rise to
positions of power and domination over others to prove to yourself
you have value, you have worth, and you can bend others to your will.

The real opportunity Jupiter and Pluto offers, their combined divine intent, is to courageously
embrace your shadow side, the parts of you that have been disowned, denied or wounded for
whatever reason. Then transforming those wounds, those doubts, those uncertainties, into your
medicine, into the gifts of strength that comes from deep within and is not dependent on external
circumstance that are unsustainable because our outer reality is constantly changing in ways that
are beyond our control.

For example, you can’t control a hurricane, or an earthquake, the sun rising and setting each day,
or ultimately how others treat you. The only real control we have is how we respond (or react) to
the situations that show up in our lives.

Surrendering to doing deep inner shadow work eventually leads to personal inner mastery (this is
true for everyone whether you have a Pluto Jupiter conjunction or not).

I have primarily dealt with the you are not important,
terrifying side of this combination. From before I was born
family members on both sides were not happy about my
birth. As a baby in the womb I was a shadow magnet for
my parents and grandmothers who were all struggling
with how my birth was shattering their cherished
perceptions of themselves.

This means I was NOT a welcomed child or grandchild and
as I was growing up and I knew it. (An exception was my
maternal grandfather who was thrilled to have a
granddaughter but he lived far away so we rarely saw him
and he died when I was only 9.)

My survival pattern was always trying to please everyone so I could feel loved. I took this pattern
into my adult life and still play it out at times. I have made progress with this as the reflection I
receive from my current husband (Best Husband Ever) reminds me it is not my job to make it okay
for him.

When we first got together he had to remind me often. Now over 14 years later (in 2020) he only
reminds me occasionally. I did get a playful reminder while working on writing this. So cute. I share
this because it helps to know it is a lifelong practice and is not necessarily mastered quickly, or at
all, but any progress is worth the effort. I am now feeling more fortunate that I have developed
awareness around these issues and have largely released my own Disease to Please! YAY…

“Luck consists largely of hanging on by your fingernails
until things start to go your way.” ~Aaron Allston

Pluto Jupiter as Good Fortune or Good Luck
Many astrologers describe the Jupiter Pluto combination
as fortunate, meaning you may experience extraordinary
luck, remarkable luck, surprisingly good luck, beyond
everyday ordinary circumstances.

This is also likely to be accompanied by extraordinary
challenges that require you to access an inner strength
and courage to keep showing up. I imagine those with strong Pluto or a Pluto Jupiter conjunction
are the ones who came up with statements like trial by fire, what doesn’t kill you makes you
stronger, learning from your mistakes, learning surrender, learning to accept what IS and trusting
the process. All good reminders but sometimes challenging to hear in the midst of feeling like you
are in Hell.

“Luck is a matter of preparation meeting opportunity.” ~ Oprah Winfrey

These are life experiences we ALL encounter as everyone goes through Pluto and/or Jupiter cycles
at some point in their life. The tests and trials we experience cultivate inner strength and the Pluto
Jupiter combination suggests these are the souls with an extra strong intention to do just that.

I have found this to be true in my own experience. Sometimes I felt as though God, the Universe, a
Higher Power was punishing me for being an honest, kind and caring person, so I did NOT feel at all
lucky or fortunate in the first part of my life. However, I was determined to do the inner work to
create a better life for myself and I can honestly say now in my 65th year of life I find I feel lucky
beyond anything I had ever imagined.

I now see I was fortunate to have been tested to love myself and not seek
power outside myself but to continually do the deep inner dive.

Yes, there have been times that were more successful than others. Yes,
sometimes I had to encounter certain types of challenges over and over until
I finally got it. Yes, this still happens to me. And my biggest YES is I am
happier than I have ever been as a result!
                                                                                            Me at age 22

It is worth your time and energy to do the deeper inner work and to release your attachments to
the outcome and to trust the process. The inner transformation is valuable beyond description and
gets more amazing all the time.

How are You Using Your Personal Power?
Jupiter and Pluto are a powerful combination requiring us to be mindful of how we are using our
personal power.
A great place to start this inquiry is to ask yourself:
How am I using my personal power to create a better world
for myself, my community and my world?
Mastering this kind of personal power requires we learn from
our teachers. There is a wise saying that goes something like,
before you can wield power as a force of good - you must
first submit to it.

It doesn’t mean be crushed by it but rather - allow power to teach you, allow those around you to
teach both by the example of the wise use of power and the unwise use of power.

If you feel driven that is not a bad thing but it is helpful if you pay attention to how your drive is
effecting you and those around you. If your drive comes from being obsessed, fanatical or self-
righteous it is likely to backfire at some point.
If you are wielding power in ways that come from making others afraid, keeping them terrified, or
manipulating and/or punishing others, using coersion and/or shaming tactics the results will be
limited.

This article by Dacher Keltner Ph.D. professor of psychology at UC Berkeley,
founding director of the Greater Good Science Center, as well as author of The
Power Paradox: How We Gain and Lose Influence and Born to Be Good, and a co-
editor of The Compassionate Instinct supports this point of view saying:
…Instead, a new science of power has revealed that power is wielded
most effectively when it’s used responsibly by people who are attuned to
        - and engaged - with the needs and interests of others. Years of research
suggests that empathy and social intelligence are vastly more important
to acquiring and exercising power than are force, deception, or terror.

way to view the solar system. His book Somnium (Latin for "The Dream") is a
novel he wrote in 1608 when Jupiter and Pluto were together in Taurus.

The book was edited from 1632 to 1634 and published by his son, Ludwig Kepler
four years after his father’s death (during the time when Jupiter and Pluto were
again together in Taurus). The story is about an Icelandic boy and his witch mother
who learn of an island named Levania (our Moon) from a daemon.

Virginia Elizabeth "Geena" Davis born January 21, 1956 (Jupiter and
Pluto are within 1°in Leo) Geena is an American actress, film producer,
writer, former fashion model, and a women's Olympics archery team
semi-finalist. She is known for her roles in The Fly, Beetlejuice, Thelma &
Louise, A League of Their Own, The Long Kiss Goodnight, Stuart Little. She
also played a woman Pirate Captain (an example of the Aries Warrior
Woman) in a lesser known movie Cutthroat Island.

She won the 1988 Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her
role in The Accidental Tourist. In 2005, she won the Golden Globe Award
for Best Actress – Television Series Drama for her role in Commander in
Chief.

Geena has three children a daughter and twin sons.
Geena and I share the having twins thing but I had a son and when he was 2 and ½ I had boy/girl
twins. I thought I was done having children and then 5 years later my unplanned bonus baby
showed up when I was in a Pluto cycle. He is the best Pluto gift ever once I surrendered to it…
As an Activist Geena has supported the Women’s Sport Foundation with a focus on equality in
sports opportunities for women and has expanded to prohibit gender discrimination in United
States' educational institutions.
In 2004, while watching children's television programs and videos with her daughter, Geena
noticed an imbalance in the ratio of male to female characters. She went on to sponsor the largest
research project ever undertaken on gender in children's entertainment (resulting in four discrete
studies, including one on children's television) showing there were almost three males to every
one female character in about 400 G, PG, PG-13, and R-Rated movies.
In 2005, Davis teamed up with the non-profit group, Dads and Daughters, to launch a venture
dedicated to balancing the number of male and female characters in children's television and
movie programming.
She launched the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media in 2007 in 2007. The Institute's first
focus is an on-the-ground program that works collaboratively with the entertainment industry to
dramatically increase the presence of female characters in media aimed at children and to reduce
stereotyping of females by the male-dominated industry.
For her work in this field she received an honorary Doctor of Fine Arts degree from Bates College
in 2009 and 10 years later in 2019 she received the Academy's Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award,
an Honorary Oscar.

his personal and professional associations with Timothy Leary at Harvard
University in the early 1960s, for his travels to India and his relationship with the
Hindu guru Neem Karoli Baba. Ram Das founded the charitable organizations

The darker side of Jupiter Pluto
Infamous Billionaire Rupert Murdoch (March 11, 1931) founder of Fox News
(Jupiter Pluto conjunct in Cancer about 8 degrees apart with Mars also in
Cancer) is someone who aligns with Ayn Rand and her views regarding
Capitalism as Good and Socialism as Bad. Ayn Rand is author of The Fountain
Head and Atlas Shrugged.

Interestingly, in July 2011, Murdoch and his NEWS companies, including the
News of the World were charged with hacking and spying on celebrities,
royalty, and public citizens. Plus, he was investigated by police and the
government for bribery and corruption. Late July 2012, Murdoch resigned as
director of News International and stepped down as CEO of 21st Century Fox.
Forbes listed Murdoch as the 34th richest person in the US and the 96th richest person in the
world, with a net worth of $13.1 billion as of February 2017. In 2016, Forbes ranked "Rupert
Murdoch & Family" as the 35th most powerful person in the world.

Many may remember Jim Jones (Jupiter conjunct Pluto 2.5 degrees
apart in Cancer Born May 13, 1931) an infamous American civil
rights preacher, faith healer and cult leader who convinced (or
forced) his followers to commit mass suicide by drinking Kool Aid
laced with cyanide poison in 1978. Around 918 people died in what
is referred to as the Jonestown Massacre.

Jupiter and Pluto Conjunctions from 1890 to 2160
Worth Noting: Jupiter and Pluto are conjunct about every 12 to 13 years. Pluto takes about 12 to
31 years to travel through a sign – depending on the sign. Pluto goes through Libra, Scorpio and
Sagittarius the most quickly and is slowest in Aries, Taurus and Gemini. See Pluto through the
signs on the next page.

From 1857 to 1882 there were 5 Jupiter Pluto conjunctions in Taurus. Three of them occurred in
1869. Pluto was in Taurus from 1851-1884 (33 years) and will go through Taurus again in 2095-
2129 (34 years)

This table was generated using Solar Fire V.9.0.25 and also helped to calculate the movement of
Pluto into new signs on the next page.

Over the nearly 270 years the table covers there are only 3 times Jupiter and Pluto meet 3 times in
a sign. The first is 1955-1956 when Jupiter and Pluto were in Leo. The second is in 2020 in
Capricorn (spanning 64 and 65 years since we had the last triple alignment). The third time is 86
years from now in Taurus dancing in and out of Taurus from 2106 to 2107 when it enters more
permanently for about 34 years.

Each time there is a triple alignment between Jupiter and Pluto as shown in the table you can see
it begins with Jupiter and Pluto coming together while both are in direct motion. The second time
they meet they both are retrograde (the June 30 conjunction) and the third time they meet both
are direct.

Jupiter and Pluto are within 10 degrees of each other from January 30, 2020 into early 2021
around Jan 6 or 7. They are within 5 degrees or closer from end of February 2020 to mid-
December 2020. Staying so close to one another for many months suggests most of 2020 is
impacted by this Jupiter Pluto alignment.

                           Pluto through the Signs

may have Pluto in one or the other sign. For example: in 1956 Pluto entered Virgo
on October 19 and returned to Leo in 1957 on January 14 and re-entered Virgo on
August 18. Then Pluto returned to Leo for a brief time in 1958 on April 11, re-
entering Virgo on June 10 of that year.
