Knights of Columbus Fr. Frank Anksorus Council #6521
                                               February 2019
The Knights of Columbus is a Catholic fraternal family service organization, with member-
ship open to all Catholic men who are 18 years and older. Below are highlights of our
Council activities for the month of February.

Eucharistic Adoration for Sanctification of Families
During this month dedicated to the Holy Family, our Council would like to take the opportunity to share our
commitment to monthly Eucharistic Adoration. On the third Friday/Saturday of each month, members of our
Council, along with other parish groups, participate in a 24-hour Eucharistic Adoration for Sanctification of
Families in the Northwest Room. Members of our Council are present throughout the night. Please consider
spending an hour in silent adoration with us next month when Knights of Columbus will present from mid-
night to 8 AM on Saturday, March 16. We hope to see many of you participating in this important devotion in
                            the future.

Consecration of Families to the Holy Family
Our Council organized a consecration to the Holy Family held at all Sunday
Masses during the weekend of February 16/17. During this consecration parish
families were invited to commit themselves to the ideal model of family love set
by Jesus, Mary, and Joseph. Thank you all for your participation!

Knights of Columbus Join Bolingbrook Chamber of Council
Our Council recently joined the Bolingbrook Chamber of Commerce. During
our February Business Meeting, we were visited by Felice Ehrman, an ambas-
sador from the Chamber, who formally welcomed us and presented our mem-
bership plaque. Our Council is excited about the opportunity to reach out and become involved in the wider
Bolingbrook community.

nuestras oraciones siempre. ¡Dios te bendiga!

BOOK CLUB NOTES E-BLAST MARCH 2019

We just want to share some things we discussed at Book Club in February.
The Book Club is currently reading “The Screwtape Letters” by C.S. Lewis. Here are
some thoughts on The Screwtape Letters 14-19.

That true humility is recognizing our gifts and talents as exactly what they are and being
grateful for them. And also recognizing that everyone has gifts and talents and being
 charitably grateful for others’ talents.
All vices are rooted in the future. Gratitude looks to the past and love to the present; fear,
avarice, lust, and ambition look to the future.
We tend to think of gluttony as being greedy and overeating, but the devil also tempts us
to gluttony of delicacy. That is, the devil tempts us to only want what we are used to hav-
ing. The devil tempts us to be discontent if our host didn’t cook the food exactly how we
do or doesn’t serve the same vegetables or condiments we normally use. He robs us of
the pleasure we could be experiencing when we eat.
Then the devil uses our habitual discontentment with food (which is not prepared to our
specific liking) to weaken our wills and bring us to other temptations. He also uses our
habitual discontentment to be less than charitable with our neighbors because we are so
 distracted by thinking about ourselves.
The devil is delighted when he can get us to think that being in love (romantic love)” is
the only respectable ground for marriage; that marriage can, and ought to, render this ex-
citement permanent, and that a marriage which does not do so is no longer binding.

 ______________________________________________________________________
Book Club meets at 7pm on the second and fourth Thursday of the month. The purpose of
The Book Club is to have fun sharing ideas with fellow Christians. At our next meetings
we will be discussing The Screwtape Letters numbers 20-25 (Feb. 28) and Letters 26-31
(March 14). You are welcome to join us at any time, especially since each letter stands on
its own (you don’t have to catch-up).

At the next two meetings (2/28 and 3/14) we will be deciding what book we want to
read next. Come join us and help pick our next book.

WAYS TO PRAYER E-BLAST MARCH 2019
                                   Divine Mercy Devotions

From the Diary of a young Polish nun, named Sr. Faustina Kowalska, came the message of
a special devotion to the mercy of
God. The message is nothing new of
course, just a reminder of what the
Church has always taught: that God
is merciful and forgiving and we too
must show mercy and forgiveness.
But in the Divine Mercy Devotion,
the message takes on a powerful
new focus, calling people to a deep-
er understanding that God’s love is
unlimited and available to everyone
-especially the greatest sinner.

Some elements of this new focus
include:
 A sacred image of the merciful Savior
 The Feast Of Divine Mercy on the Sunday after Easter
 The Novena to the Divine Mercy
 The Chaplet of Divine Mercy
 Prayer at the Hour Of Great Mercy- 3:00 PM
 Pause at this time for a brief moment to think of Christ’s total abandonment at his hour
of agony and say a short prayer such as Jesus, mercy.
 Be merciful to others such as performing the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy.
There is a special emphasis on praying for the dying and those who have died.
 The Eucharist and Sacrament of Penance are central to the Devotion of Divine Mercy.
 Complete trust in Christ’s mercy

The Chaplet of Divine Mercy can be said at any time.
 Begin by making the Sign of the Cross, and saying one Our Father, one Hail Mary and
   The Apostles Creed.
 Using the rosary, on the bead for the Our Father say : Eternal Father, I offer You the
Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Your dearly beloved Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ,
in atonement for our sins and those of the whole world.
 On the 10 Hail Mary beads say: For the sake of His sorrowful Passion, have mercy on us
   and on the whole world.
( Repeat step 2 and 3 for all five rosary decades).
 Conclude by saying three times: Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One, have
mercy on us and on the whole world and after that, three times: Jesus I trust in You.

PRAYER FOR PRIESTS E-BLAST MARCH 2019

At this moment many of us in the pews are feeling hurt, disgusted and angry at the news that some
of our clergy have failed to honor their vows of chastity and have abused our trust in their commit-
ment to God and his Church. This is a time to remember the clergy who have kept their promise to
God and the Church. Thank God for their faithful service and please pray for them because they
too are hurt, angry and disgusted. As the gospel song says: When the saints go out to worship the
King of Glory will come in.

Prayer by Dom Mark Kirby, Benedictine Monk
 Oh my beloved Jesus,
I bring Thee the poverty of Thy priests, that Thou wouldst enrich them.
I bring Thee the emptiness of Thy priests, that Thou wouldst fill them.
I bring Thee the coldness of Thy Priests, that Thou wouldst warm them.
I bring Thee the loneliness of Thy priests, that Thou wouldst embrace them.
I bring Thee the sorrows of Thy priests, that Thou wouldst console them.
I bring Thee the illnesses of Thy priests, that Thou wouldst heal them.
I bring Thee the impurities of Thy priests, that Thou wouldst wash them clean.
I bring Thee the nakedness of Thy Priests, that Thou wouldst clothe them.
I bring Thee the silence of Thy priests, that Thou wouldst speak to them.

I bring Thee the brokenness of Thy priests, that Thou wouldst repair them.
I bring Thee the infirmities of Thy priests, that Thou wouldst heal them.
I bring Thee the nothingness of Thy priests, that Thou wouldst be their all.
I bring Thee the darkness of Thy priests, that Thou wouldst illuminate them.
I bring Thee the bitterness of Thy priests, that Thou wouldst give them to taste of Thy sweetness.
I bring Thee the struggles of Thy priests, that Thou wouldst be victorious in them.
I give Thee the blindness of Thy priests, that Thou wouldst give them clear vision.
I bring Thee the weariness of Thy priests, that Thou wouldst be their rest.
I bring Thee the thirst of Thy priests, that Thou wouldst quench it.
I bring Thee the fears of Thy priests, that Thou wouldst give them confidence.
I give Thee the doubts of Thy priests, that Thou wouldst strengthen their faith.
I bring Thee the despondency of Thy priests, that Thou wouldst infuse them with hope.

I bring Thee the sadness of Thy priests, that Thou wouldst be their joy.
I bring Thee all Thy priests, especially those in their last agony, those who are locked in spiritual
combat, and those being tempted to sin against faith and against hope.
I bring Thee the death of Thy priests that Thou wouldst be their life eternal.
I bring Thee all those priests of Thine for whom Thy presence in the Most Holy Sacrament has
become a matter of indifference, of routine, and of neglect.
Beloved Lord Jesus, have mercy on those priests of Thine whose minds have grown dark,
whose hearts have grown cold, and who have succumbed to the enticements of the world, the
weariness of the flesh, and the deceits of the devil.
Deliver them all, O Jesus, for they are Thine and Thou will not deny Thine own.

                                Welcome for March
Our next monthly welcoming get together will be after the 9:30 Mass
on March 10. All parishioners are invited to come and meet people
who are new to the parish or meet people you have never had the op-
portunity to talk to before. People who have registered in our parish
in the months of January or February are especially invited to come.

                                     Ed’s Joke Corner

The Parish census taker walked up to a wrinkled
little older man rocking in a chair on his porch.

“I couldn’t help noticing how happy you look,” she
said. “What’s your secret for a long happy life?”

“I smoke three packs of cigarettes a day,” the man boasted. “I also drink a
case of whiskey a week, eat fatty foods, and never exercise.”

“Wow! That’s amazing,” said the visitor. “And just how old are you?”

 “Twenty-six,” the man replied.

   FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is RCIA? RCIA is a process of study, explo-
ration, faith sharing, and faith formation with spe-
cific liturgical rites for seekers and inquirers. Seek- Courtesy: www.blessedsacramentnj.org
ers and inquirers are non-baptized adults who de-
sire to be fully initiated into the Roman Catholic Church and/or baptized adult Christians who de-
sire full communion in the Roman Catholic Church by being prepared for Eucharist and Confir-
   mation.

What is meant by conversion? Every individual experiences the conversion process in a differ-
ent way. Generally speaking, “conversion” is the process of turning one’s life and energies to
God. Conversion is a lifelong process of personal spiritual growth.

Do the participants in the RCIA process have to experience this process alone? The par-
ticipants are not alone in the process. The initiation of adults is about Christian community. The
RCIA community includes a sponsor who is a practicing Catholic who is a friend or family mem-
ber of the participant or a parish sponsor assigned by the director.

What does the RCIA process look like? The process begins with meeting with the RCIA Coor-
dinator or Faith Formation Director. The formal sessions begin in the fall and meet weekly on
Sunday mornings. The catechists will discuss sacraments, history of the Church, prayer, Old and
New Testament, Christology, Mary and the saints, morality, social justice, and stewardship.
Reading materials will be assigned. Participation in the various rituals that take place in church
is expected. With the start of the liturgical year (Advent), catechumens and candidates attend
   Sunday Mass.
Can anyone join the RCIA process? Any mature adult. (18 yrs. +)

St. Dominic E-Mail Blast Monthly Newsletter
We would still like to continue this Parish Newsletter Email
Blast project. This is a monthly newsletter that would need to
be formatted in Publisher. Various leaders in the parish sub-
mit articles to be included in the E-Blast and then those arti-
cles would be forwarded to the individual who would format
them for the E-Blast newsletter. That draft would be sent to a
group of editors and then after corrections have been made a
parish staff member would forward the newsletter to all of the parishioners who have
provided us with their email address. We already have two volunteers Gela Gonzalez
and Beryl Davin. With a team of people each person would only have to format the
newsletter 2-3 times a year. Contact Chris H-W for additional information. 630-739-
