About Us
Beaver Cove Gardens began as a hobby farm growing tomatoes for a nice
salad. We started with a wheelbarrow and a shovel and kept growing from
there. Located in Cape Breton, NS on the Bras D’or Lakes, our family grows
vegetable transplants and prepared arrangements for those interested in
growing their own gardens.

More than a decade ago, we started growing vegetable and flower transplants
for family, neighbours and friends. Soon we were being approached by local
restaurants, community gardens and local garden centers. Everyone loved our
plants! Proudly grown here in our local climate. Hearty enough to transplant
and exciting heirloom and heritage varieties that were becoming more popular
with each successful crop.

Now, ten years later, our transplants are proudly sold at retailers and garden
centers all over Nova Scotia. We provide sustainable, hearty transplants and
arrangements for vegetables, herbs, flowers and unique botanicals. We enjoy
working with our clients to customize their plant orders to fit their customers
needs. We strive to always provide healthy, hearty plants ready
to go right into your garden. Be it for health, lifestyle
change, getting outdoors or love of cooking, starting a
garden is a great experience and we want to help you get
started! Growing your own vegetables is great family
experience and also a peaceful getaway. You can enjoy
growing our transplants in a large garden or a small
apartment patio. Let Beaver Cove Gardens help you get

                           Red Russian Kale
Dark green turning red with frost these smoothie staples
are popular with any health conscious gardener. Great in
slaws, smoothies, salads or as wraps, these punchy leaves
will give you a healthy start or finish to the day. When
harvesting, cut leaves instead of pulling plant. Each section
will continue to grow after being harvested. Harvest strategically
for constant yield! Plant in your garden or in planters on a patio and
            begin using after 25 days!

                                                                                   Page 18
Purple Vienna Kohlrabi
A very mild kohlrabi with purple globes and a
mild turnip cabbage flavor. Plant early for a
summer crop or in summer for a fall crop.
Harvest at a size that matches your meal. To
prepare, remove the outer skin and leaves and treat like a turnip or rutabaga
with a milder flavour. Great for those picky eaters who won’t finish their turnip! The
leaves on this little dandy are fully edible and boast the same health benefits as kale.
50-60 days to maturity in a 14-18” plant.

                     Bright Lights Swiss Chard
This AAS winner combines a rainbow of chard. A mild flavored
green that is delicious young in salads or wilted with grilled food.
Tender stems are edible and a variety of colors adds brightness to
patio planters or gardens. Thin for larger leaves, or plant closely for
restricted baby greens. This transplant holds up to cold weather on
both ends of the planting season. Start harvesting as micro greens all
the way through mature. Best if kept to 8-10 inches and harvested by
              cutting instead of pulling.
