CARAVAN MASCHERA: BRIEF CURRICULUM

Giorgia Goldoni was born in Modena-Italy, and graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna and the International
Theater School of Rome (Lecoq). Her artistic research was dedicated to the study of masks, puppets and plastic elements
applied to theater, to visual theater and theater pedagogy and artistic education. She creates masks and puppets in various
techniques and materials. Leonardo Garcia Gonçalves was born in São Paulo, and began his artistic research at the
UNICAMP university of the city of Campinas. He ended his studies at the Sorbonne University in Paris where his research
thesis was published in the book "The Commedia dell'arte et les danses populaires brésiliennes". His artistic research
investigates the convergences and divergences between the manifestations of popular culture in which the use of the mask,
visual elements and dance are adopted. He is an invited artist within the State Theater School SP ESCOLA DE TEATRO, in
the city of Sãp Paulo (BR). In 2010 Giorgia and Leonardo were selected to participate to the European project Masks On
Stage, thanks to which, between 2010 and 2011, they received an international professional training, sponsored by the
European community-EACEA study center. The participants (10 in total) lived in artistic residencies in Italy, France, Germany
and the Czech Republic deepening their researches about the traditional and popular local theatre culture.
Caravan Maschera was founded in 2010, with the desire to experiment and deepen the forms of theater in which the use of
the image and the visual element prevails: puppetry, animated forms, masks, clowns, physical theater, fool and visual theater.
The company produces shows, workshops and artistic residences that contribute to nurturing and deepening their artistic
research in performing arts caracterized for the hybrid dialogue between various visual and theatrical languages. The artistic
research of the company and the quality of the projects and theatrical productions have obtained the patronage of large
institutions: Petrobras, Banco do Brasil, Banco Caixa Federal, ProAC, Funarte, Ministério da Cultura, SESI and Agência
Europeia de Cultura- EACEA.
In Brazil, the company is headquartered in the TERRITÓRIO DAS ARTES CARAVAN MASCHERA, located in a rural district
(quartiere)of the city of Atibaia (SP): the community center of the district is transformed into a cultural center and a space for
trials, residences and cultural exchanges within the peripheral context. Art dissemination and sensitization activities are
carried out: courses are offered that offer integrated didactics between the arts (plastic arts, theater, photography, art history,
cinema and video) in a project that promotes dialogue and parallelism between the various artistic events (www.projetoorun-

From 2017 the Company integrates the Visual Poetry Research Group ( UNESP - of São Paulo UNESP): the group
organizes events and discussions about the diferentes languages and producions that characterize the poetry of the
inanimate

2019 - ”VIDAS SECAS" show selected to be in tournée in Mato Grosso and Mato Grosso do Sul (Brazil) with the
patronage of PETROBRAS ( BR distribuidora de Cultura Award).
2019 - Show "Discipline and Punish" selected to take part in the Theatrical Season in the CENTRO CULTURAL BANCO
DO BRASIL CCBB of Brasilia (Brazil) with 16 sessions in March (Banco do Brasil Award).
2019 – “VIDAS SECAS” show selected to take part to the Theater Program – CAIXA CULTURAL RECIEFE
(Pernambuco, Brazil) with 8 sessions. (Caixa Federal Award).
2018 - ”VIDAS SECAS" show selected to take part in the Theater Program of the CAIXA CULTURAL Rio de Janeiro
(Brazil) with 12 sessions in November (Caixa Federal Award).
2017 - Shows "Tiringuito, Luisa and Death" and ”VIDAS SECAS" in european tour (Italy, Slovenia, France and
Switzerland).
2017 - ”VIDAS SECAS" selected to be represented in 15 cities of the State of Sao Paulo (ProAc Award for theater shows
in St. Paul State).
2016 - ”VIDAS SECAS" on tour in 6 Brazilian states thanks to the FUNARTE Prize (Bahia, Minas Gerais, Alagoas,
Espirito Santo and Sergipe).
2016 - "Caravan Maschera Ano V", Caravan Maschera Company selected to take part in the theatrical season of the
Funarte Cultural Center in St. Paul city with 3 show – VIDAS SECAS; Tiringuito Luisa and Death; Threepenny
Mamulengo - during 15 days.("Cena Aberta da Funarte" Award).
2016 - Company selected by the ProAc de Artes integradas Award for the prodution of show "Dicipline and Punish" based
in the work of the French philosopher Michael Foucault.
2015 - Project Orun-Aiye selected by the Artes Integradas Award: realizing cultural and art activities in rural and outlying
areas in the Atibaia city and in the Quilombos do Vale do Ribeira and producing the show ”VIDAS SECAS".
2014 - Proac Popular Culture Award for the dissemination and preservation of the Mamulengos theater tradition, and
Proac Theater Production Award for the production and circulation of the show "Threepenny Mamulengo".
2013 - European Youth in Action Award for the project "Babele Burattini" which deepens the studies of the traditional
Italian puppet theater and uses it as an instrument of intercultural integration and mediation. The same project also
receives the Cultural Exchage Prize by Ministry of Brazilian Culture which financed the travel costs for the company
european tour.
2012 - FUNARTE street theater productions Award to produce the show "Romeo and Juliet Clownish Cordel" which
investigates the clown mask in relation to Shakespeare's work.
2011 - Proac St Paul First Production Award, to realize the show "Midsummer Dream", based in Shakespeare's theater
using Commedia dell'Arte masks.
