Bill Russell was a horseman, husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and a very giving man in
life. It is our mission to carry on his giving tradition. Our hope is to help horseman's families in
their time of need, as our family was helped in ours.
About Bill Russell
Bill was a high school football hero with a full scholarship from a Division 1 college. He joined
the Air Forced and served his country. After Vietnam, he came home to work in the horse in-
dustry with his wife, Mona. Upon his return, he served as a huntsman and professional whipper-
in, helping establish some very popular hunts still in operation today. He began privately train-
ing and managing horse shows such as Ramble Wood and Belle Meade Annual Horse Show. He
was the first manager to offer the 3 foot divisions, revolutionizing the horse show world.
In the 1970's he was one of the top trainers in the Southeast. He had champions at the Washing-
ton International Horse Show, multiple winners of the Palm Beach Grand Prix's and Champi-
ons of the Country, with horses such as Deck Commander, Southern Brooks, Catch on Fire,
Turf Fire, Bargain Hunter and Signal Point.
Bill and Mona raised four children, who all still work in the horse industry today. During this
time he graduate from college on the Dean's List. He held his racehorse trainer's license and
headed up the Georgia Thoroughbred Owner's and Breeder's Association for many years. He
helped found the Georgian Tech and Georgia State Equestrian teams and served on the IHSA
committees.
Those who knew him, knew you could call on him at any time and he would figure out a way
to help or offer an encouraging word. The BRM Memorial Benefit Show

The is BRM Foundation dedicated to the health, welfare and safety of all exhibitors both equine and hu-
man. To protect our equine partners, we will be enforcing the following protocols at the BRM Horse
Show this summer.
It is advised that all horses stabling on the show grounds arrive between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. If it is
necessary to arrive at any other time you must check in with the night security officer.
1. A current (within 12 months) negative Coggins test is required.
2. A Health Certificate must be signed by a licensed veterinarian within 30 days of arrival at the BRM Horse
Show.
3. Vaccination Requirements (per the USEF GR-845 Equine Vaccination Rule [CHAPTER 8F Welfare of
the Horse] Rule Changes Effective 12/1/15) At Federation licensed competitions, horses entering the
grounds must be accompanied by documentation of Equine Influenza Virus and Equine Herpes Virus
(Rhinopneumonitis) vaccinations within six months prior to entering the stables. Horses not in compliance
with this rule may be required to leave the competition grounds upon request by Competition Manage-
ment. Documentation should consist of one of the following methods mentioned below. The frequency of
vaccine administration should be per the vaccine manufacturers’ or veterinarian’s recommendations. It is
recommended that vaccines are administered by or under the direction of a veterinarian. In the case of vac-
cines administered by a veterinarian, the exhibitor, upon request by Competition Management, must pro-
vide documentation from the veterinarian on documenting that the horse in question received the vaccina-
tions; name of the vaccines and date of vaccine administration. In the case of vaccines administered by a
person other than a veterinarian, the exhibitor, upon request by Competition Management, must provide a
receipt of the vaccine purchase which is signed by the owner, or agent with care, custody, and control of
the horse; name, serial number and expiration date of the vaccine; and date of vaccine administration. In
the case of a horse that is unable to receive either of the vaccinations due to a history of adverse reactions,
the exhibitor, upon request by Competition Management, must provide a letter from the veterinarian on
official letterhead stating that the horse in question cannot be vaccinated due to medical concerns and a log
of temperatures taken twice daily for the seven days prior to entering the competition grounds. These hors-
es must also have their temperature taken and logged twice daily while on the competition grounds. The
log of temperatures should be provided to the Competition Management, steward, or technical delegate
when requested. Competition Management may not amend or enhance vaccination requirements without
prior approval of the Veterinary Committee
4. Any horse on the show grounds with a fever of unknown origin or of suspicious origin must be report-
ed to BRM Horse Show management and to the Show Veterinarian. It is always better to err on the side
of safety. Isolation stalls will either be available on the grounds or at a local veterinary practice if the need
arises.
5. Please take the time to review equine good hygiene practices. Please convey the importance of this to
your equine caretakers for their daily routines.
BRM Foundation strives to provide a safe and enjoyable show experience. An important part of that expe-
rience is maintaining healthy horses. Please continue to check our web site at BRM Horse Show on Face-
book for any additional and possibly mandatory requirements.
