The congregation is divided into nine groups - one for each Elder/Deacon
pair. You and your Consistory partner are responsible for keeping in
regular contact with the families listed under your group. Such contact
would involve calling on those who are experiencing some significant

loss, major life change, or family death. Your contact with your families
would also include acknowledging joyful occasions like the birth of a
baby, the marriage of a son or daughter, a wedding anniversary, a
promotion at work, or retirement, etc. In all of these situations, offer an
appropriate prayer to the Lord.

We continue to be blessed with partners who help us make a difference
in the lives of our community. Last month, a volunteer group from
Community Reformed in Zeeland, MI, helped make a tremendous
difference in the life of Betty. Betty is taking care of two sons, one
with special needs and another undergoing cancer treatments. Betty’s
house was in need of major repairs. With the help of our staff and
some donations from other partners, Betty’s kitchen was reworked with
new flooring, new cabinets. The group stepped up to help with other
needs that were apparent.
Betty and her sons were overwhelmed with the compassion that was
shown to them. Betty stated, “We have never experienced such kindness
before.” Join us in giving thanks for our partners and pray for Betty
and her family.
The campus is preparing for a busy summer. May 21, the Veterans
Outreach committee will be hosting a fishing derby. The next week will
see the start of our day camps. Join us in praying for safety for all,
and that we will continue to show the love of Christ to all those that
come thru the campus gates and in the greater community.
"Encourage one another daily as long as it is called “Today,” so that none of you
may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness.” Hebrews 3:13
Christ’s church is made up of people who can encourage one another! We all go through difficulties in
life. It is important to have other believers around us to talk to in these times. Ephesians 4:2-4 says,
“With all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love, endeavoring to
keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit.” Thank God for His
church!
It is interesting to see how God works things out! Even if we make a mistake, God can use it for good!
I called for a man to come to the office to encourage him since he was in prison again. I have known
him for quite some time. When the man arrived, I noticed it was not the same man who I thought it
was. He had the same first and last name as the guy I knew. However, we had a good visit! He neverthought he would end up in prison! Adam said he had everything he could want in life, nice vehicles, a
great wife, a great job. Still, he wasn’t satisfied, so turned to another woman who got him started on
drugs. He stated he had not used drugs for fifteen years, and here he was caught in a bad situation
because of his poor choices. Adam couldn’t believe how he took his wife for granted, and how now she
is willing to stick with him through his prison time. Wiping his eyes he said, “I don’t deserve her.”
Adam’s wife is a good example of grace. We do not deserve God’s forgiveness either. If it were not
for grace, we would all be in trouble. Since we talked, Adam comes to church and Bible study! God
works in ways that we would not expect!
Joe does not ever remember hearing the gospel explained before he came to prison. He is very open
to the Bible and is trying to understand it. He is a man who seems to have been beaten down by life’s
problems. I gave him a basic Bible study for new believers a few weeks ago. He had not started on it
when I visited with him the second time. I asked him, “Do you know how to look up these Bible passages
in the Bible study I gave you?” What we take for granted is that everyone knows how to look up Bible
passages, but that is a wrong assumption. Some people like Joe, have never opened a Bible before. I
was able to show him how to look the passages up. Joe was in an area where there are about 30
guys. He told me, “The other day a man walked up to me and said he could see that I was struggling.
So everyday this guy would come to where I was and read the Bible to me!” Joe said, “How did this guy
know that this was very encouraging for me!” God is amazing in how He works through some men in
prison to encourage others.
Jim has come a long way in his spiritual growth. He said, “The Lord has been working on me for a long
time, but I was not willing to surrender. Now that I have surrendered, I notice that my roommate is
really in opposition to me and my beliefs. The spiritual battle has intensified. I knew God was greater
than all the powers of darkness!” He wept as he prayed, “Lord I’m sorry for waiting so long to
surrender my life to You!”
Thank you for your prayers and financial support! God’s Word will not return void!
In Christ,
Harlan
Parade-Ground Christians
"Endure hardship as a good soldier of Jesus Christ." (2 Timothy 2:3)
To be a soldier means getting into battle, enduring hardship, even risking your life. Christianity isn't
lived in a vacuum. There are struggles and conflicts. The hymn, "Onward Christian Soldiers," reflects
the fact that we must fight when demonic forces attack us in life. A Christian must be willing to do
spiritual battle for Christ. That's a high cost.
Soren Kierkegaard said that there are a lot of "Parade-Ground Christians" who wear the uniforms
of Christianity, but few who are willing to do battle for Christ and his kingdom. When it comes to doing
battle for the Lord, too many church members are just "sitting on the premises" instead of "standing on
the promises" of God.
Martin Luther once said, "A religion that gives nothing, costs nothing, and suffers nothing, is worth
nothing." We are called to be soldiers - to fight the good fight, to endure hardship like a good soldier of
Christ Jesus. We must ask ourselves, are we just parade-ground Christians who look good, but never
actually go into battle or are we true Christian soldiers, in full battle gear (Ephesians 6:13-18), daily
fighting the "good fight" of the gospel, ready to risk it all, ready to "endure hardship like a good soldier
of Christ Jesus"?

The next week, not everyone could make it to the bible study but one

That meeting was where Elisa chose to turn her life over to the all-

God has presented James with a new opportunity off Cru staff that we are unwilling to pass up. His last
day with Cru will be May 27th. In June, he will start work as a Financial Analyst for a company that
manufactures mining and drilling equipment. He is sad to be leaving Cru, but excited for what God has
next.
Beth is staying on staff with Cru, and will continue as normal in her role, including raising support.

constant and changing.
On one hand, not much has changed since our last newsletter. On the other hand, it feels
like everything has changed now with the birth of our son Ivan Elliot on March 14th! It has
been a profound joy to become parents and watch his development. Words cannot begin to describe how proud I
am of Brittany throughout the entire process – her patience and gentleness run through every bone as she cares
for her little baby and her big baby (me)! Over the last two months, Ivan has received two recurring comments
from all his new friends: “You’re so alert!” and “Look at your hair!” It’s true - he likes to fight sleep with eyes wide
open and his hair likes to stand at attention.
Brittany is now at home throughout the week and working longer hours than ever before! She continues to work
for New Horizons Adoption Agency remotely, with the occasional home visit she travels to with Ivan in tow. I have
also been very busy – there is usually plenty of work to be done in the maintenance shop and especially now that
the weather is getting nicer, I have a handful of flight students who require a lot of time each week.

This summer is a big one for the Proclaim team in
Worthington. One couple is continuing in their ministry journey and moving
to Alaska in early June while a new family moves from Washington to join us in
mid-June. In late June, a few guys go on a short-term serve trip to Peru. Then in
early August, our family hits the road to central Missouri with as few belongings as
we can manage for our next step in the process of preparing to serve overseas
with Ethnos360 Aviation. The move will definitely be bitter-sweet.
training.
We will be moving to the Ethnos360 Training campus on
the south end of the Lake of the Ozarks for nine months of
Ivan Elliot Korver training for the mission field. Topics include things like language and
culture acquisition methods, solar energy and other off-grid technology, field
medicine, and simple living (which ends with an 18-day residency in a handmade
hut in the woods for all three of us). It will be a fast-paced year and Brittany and I
are excited to take these classes together.
traveling.
Before we get there though, we have a full summer of
various trips and presentations about mission aviation and
how God is using Proclaim Aviation Ministries as well as
Ethnos360 Aviation. Would you consider joining us in prayer as we tackle
parenting, the busy summer and subsequent move to Missouri? We are always
hoping to share more and answer any questions, and we are always praying for
enthusiastic financial partners. We have had a few partners ask if they need to
send their donations somewhere else when we move to Missouri. The answer to
that is no, all donations will continue to go through Proclaim until next summer.
