ORGANISER AND LOCATION
The first ever official 2018 FAI World Drone Racing Championships will take place in Shenzhen, China. The
event is hosted by the Bureau of Sports, Culture and Tourism of Municipality of Shenzhen and Kaisa Culture
Sports & Tourism Group. The Aero Sports Federation of China (ASFC) is the National Airsport Control in
China.
City of Shenzhen is located in the south of China, near Guangzhou and Hong Kong cities.
There is an international airport in Shenzhen: Bao’a I te atio al Ai po t (Code SZX). The distance from
airport to the venue is 50 km, with a driving time about 1 hour 15 mins.

There are other international airports near Shenzhen.
Distance from Hong Κong airport (Code HKG) to Shenzhen: 60 km. It is easy to go from Hong Κong airport to
Shenzhen by train or bus, but it needs to pass the border control in Shenzhen which may take time.
Distance from Guangzhou airport (Code CAN) to Shenzhen: 150 km with many public transportation
options to Shenzhen.
Many international flights are scheduled to these cities.

The main stadium will be used for all phases of the competition.
Free-training on the sub-stadium will be possible with possibly some video restrictions.

SUPPORT EVENTS

FAI Drone Racing World Cup event
As a test event for the World Drone Racing Championships, a FAI Drone Racing World Cup event is going to
be organised on the same venue 11 to 13 May 2018.

Aviation Carnival
An Aviation Carnival will be organised during the World Drone Racing Championships with a Drone Industry
Exhibition and support events such as:
 - Drone presentations in other formats than racing for example with large drones.
 - Drone and laser show.
 - Drone AR experience.
 - Drone game VR experience and extra entertainment racing games.
 - Hot-air balloon experience.
 -…
Detailed information will be provided later in a separate circular.

OFFICIAL LANGUAGES
The official languages will be English and Chinese.
English Language always prevails concerning all elements of the competition, namely FAI documents,
competition rules and Bulletins

RULES
The rules for the World Drone Racing Championships will be based on the F3U (RC Multi-Rotor FPV Racing)
class rules in place for the World Cup events.
The World Drone Racing Championships rules document will be published as a supporting document of the
present Bulletin 1. Rules may be subject to release after the CIAM Plenary Meeting (end of April) or the FAI
Drone Racing World Cup event (end of May).
The 2018 editions of the following documents are also applicable:
 - FAI Sporting Code Section 4 Aeromodelling Volume CIAM General Rules.
 - FAI General Section and FAI Code of Ethics.

Radio Control equipment
The recommended frequency band is 2,4 GHz. Any 2.4 GHz radio control equipment may be used
Competitors may also be authorised to use other e uip e t’s, such as for example TBS Crossfire module
(868 MHz and/or 915 MHz).
Competitors will be requested to mention the frequencies they will use prior the World Drone Racing
Championships.

Video system
The video system will be selected by the organiser together with FAI in order to permit live transmission of
the pilot view on large screens for the spectators and media production with the appropriate quality.
Competitors will be allowed to use their own equipment subject to respect authorised VTX which will be
defined in the rules document.
The organiser may supply VTX and antenna to any competitor who will do the request. A deposit may be
requested and returned on restitution of the devices. The reference of the VTX supplied by the organiser
will be mentioned in Bulletin 2.

LED light unit
In order to provide for the public the best view of the models during the races and to facilitate the task of
the Judges, each model will be equipped with a LED light unit including possibility to choose the colour so
that each model in flight has a different colour.
Competitors will be allowed to use their own LED light unit subject to strictly respect the requirements
which will be defined in the World Drone Racing Championships rules document, and as long the
competitor can change easily the colour just before the race.
The organiser may supply LED light units to any competitor who will do the request. A deposit may be
requested and returned on restitution of the devices. The reference of the LED light unit supplied by the
organiser will be mentioned in Bulletin 2.

Electronic timing system
The organiser will supply to each competitor for free the chips to install on the model. A deposit may be
requested and returned on restitution of the devices.

Anti-Doping Statement
If a competitor has to take, for a medical condition, any of the substances listed on the WADA Prohibited
List, he must have a valid Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE) from the FAI.

Protest
Any protest must be presented in writing to the Contest Director and must be accompanied by the deposit
of a fee of 50 Euros. The deposit is returned only if the protest is upheld.

PARTICIPANTS

National teams
Every National Airsport Control may enter a team consisting of:
 - A team manager.
 - Three competitors extended to a maximum of five competitors providing at least one is a junior (age
   limit 18 years in the year 2018) and at least one is a female.
 - Helpers (one permitted for each competitor).
 - Supporters.

Individual competitors
As organiser, ASFC will be entitled to issue three individual invitations (wild card) for competitors from
People's Republic of China in addition to the national team.
FAI may also invite individual competitors especially when a NAC does not recognize or has dedicated
structures for Drone Racing. Those competitors must have been placed in 2018 FAI Drone Racing World Cup
events and will be considered as FAI. Such individual invitations will be considered after the deadline fixed
for registration of the national teams (31 August 2018).
All individual competitors compete for the individual classification but not for the team classification.
Each individual competitor is permitted to have one helper.

FAI SPORTING LICENCE - FAI DRONE PERMISSION
Each competitor and team manager of any national team must possess a valid FAI Sporting Licence
(Aeromodelling discipline).
The three individual competitors nominated by ASFC as wild card must also possess a valid FAI Sporting
Licence (Aeromodelling discipline).
Individual competitors invited by FAI will be authorised to have a FAI Drone Permission instead a FAI
Sporting Licence.
Every FAI Sporting Licence or FAI Drone Permission must be registered in the FAI database.

The holder of a FAI Sporting Licence or FAI Drone Permission may be required to produce an official
document bearing his photograph and signature as proof of identity.
Note: FAI Sporting Licence or FAI Drone Permission is not required for the helpers.

FAI MEDALS AND DIPLOMAS
Individual classification
FAI medals and FAI diplomas will be awarded to the competitors placed first, second and third. A FAI
diploma will be also awarded to their helpers.
FAI medals and FAI diplomas will be also awarded to the juniors placed first, second and third in the Junior
classification and to the female placed first, second and third in the Female classification.
In order to award the title of Junior World Champion, junior competitors from at least four nations must
participate.
In order to award the title of Female World Champion, female competitors from at least four nations must
participate.

Team classification
FAI medals and FAI diplomas will be awarded to each member (including the fourth and fifth team
members when appropriate and the team manager) of the national teams placed first, second and third.

Prizes money (cash) will be awarded by the organiser.

ENTRY FEES
Team-manager: 300 Euro
Senior competitor: 300 Euro
Junior competitor: 150 Euro
Female competitor: 150 Euro
Helper - Supporter: 60 Euro
A competitor who is also a team manager will only pay one entry fee of 300 Euro.

DEADLINES
Preliminary Entry form (intent to enter a team with number of competitors): 1st May 2018
Final Entry Form (official entry including competitor's names and FAI Licence ID number) and payment of
the entry fees: 31 August 2018.
Entry fees received after the deadline may be subject to a penalty fee up to 20 % of the total amount of the
entry fees to be paid.
Entry fees will not be accepted on arrival except in exceptional circumstances and with the agreement of
the organiser.
If a team or a competitor withdraws from the World Drone racing Championships after entry fees have
been paid, a refund will be considered only in case of force majeure or exceptional circumstances.

Food and banquet
On-site, the organizer will offer food and drinks at reduced prices to all registered participants. Lunch will
be available for approx. 7 euro and dinner for approx. 9 euro.
The organizer will also give a welcome party and closing banquet with no extra cost to pay. Further
information for the banquet will be included in Bulletin 2.

INSURANCE
All competitors will be covered by a limited third-party liability insurance provided by the organizer. Third-
party liability insurance will cover competitors for model accidents involving injury to others and damage to
property.
However, competitors are recommended to have their own medical and travel insurance before arrival.

COMPLEMENTARY INFORMATIONS
Bulletin 2
Bulletin 2 including the Final Entry Form will be published around end June 2018 on the website of the
World Drone Racing Championships.
A passport size photograph will be required for each participant (team-manager, competitor, helper and
supporter) to be submitted with the Final Entry Form.
Bulletin 2 will be also sent by email to the NAC's which have returned a Preliminary Entry Form.

Visa requirements
A visa is e ui ed to e te the People’s Repu li of Chi a. I itatio lette s will be provided by the organizer
with the registration. A photocopy of the personal information page in the passport is required for the
preparation of invitation letters.
The processing of the visa application is at least 3-4 weeks. Make sure to leave enough time for it. Please
contact the Chinese Embassy / Consulate in your country for more information about documents required
in advance.
The organiser is negotiating with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China for convenience to speed up the
visa processing; more information will be given in Bulletin 2.

Communication restrictions in People's Republic of China
Gmail, Facebook, Youtube, Instagram and some other websites are generally unavailable for service in
China. The organiser will arrange special hotspots for access to these websites. More information will be
provided in Bulletin 2 and the accessing method will be explained at registration.

National team on-site registration
The team-manager is requested to bring two national flags (approx. 1 m x 1.5 m) at the registration of its
national team. They will be returned to the team manager at the end of the World Drone Racing
Championships.
Note: Upload of the national anthem (.mp3 audio format) will be required at the on-line registration of the
national team.
At the end of the on-line registration, the team-manager will receive packages (ID cards, banquet tickets,
souvenirs, etc.) for all the registered participants.

Batteries
Batteries may be supplied by the organiser on request. An order form for batteries including prices will be
attached to the Bulletin 2.
The national teams and the individual competitors may send their batteries to the dedicated address which
will be mentioned in Bulletin 2. Ho e e , it is the o petito s’ espo si ility to make sure that the
batteries will be delivered to the dedicated address, and bears all the cost of the postage and custom duties
that may occur.

Transportation
Free local transportation will be provided by the organiser during the World Drone Racing Championships
between:
   - Shenzhen Bao’a airport and hotels upon arrival and departure,
   - Hotels and venue.
   - Hotels and closing ceremony venue.
   - Hotels and welcome party and closing banquet.
Details on local transportation services will be provided in Bulletin 2.

Tour and visits
There are many attractions in the city of Shenzhen.

There is a well-developed metro system in Shenzhen, a metro line is running between the venue and city
centre.
More tourism information will be published on the website before the World Drone Racing Championships.

Spectators & media
The site will be open to the public during the competition and many supporting events will be available to
experience.
A live scoring system will be used with LED displays for public information such as live scores and temporary
rankings during the competition.
Real-time images of the racing drones will be displayed on the big screen in the stadium for spectators.
Special events will be arranged for the media.
The organiser will put in effort for the best media coverage of the World Drone Racing Championships.
