NN STYLE CARTEL

TP: Which trends do you think are going to be big this
season?
NNSC: Living in Durban you can hardly separate the seasons as it is the "Warmest
place to be" so trends tend to stick through out, but we like to find those unique items, patterns
and silhouettes that stand out from the rest each season. With that said, NN Style Cartel believes that you
should watch out for the following this Spring 2014,
• As oppose to neon bright colours we see shades of nude coming in with a vengeance
• Monochrome will forever stay trending
• Iridescent garments Versace Glasses,
• Mesh detail R2390, Sunglasses
• Full Skirts Hut
• Whimsical Suits (2 Pieces) Must have item
• Boyfriend clothing for spring!
• Shift blouse
• Crops
TP: What is your must have item for Spring?
NNSC: There is one thing NN StyleCartel cannot live without this Spring especially in Durban and that has to
be Designer Sunnies to protect us from those
nasty UV Rays and still make us look uber stylish
and but of course Jelly Shoes and Boyfriend
jeans.
TP: Which colours must we look out for this
season?
NNSC: Colours NN StyleCartel are on the prowl
for this season are:
• Black and white
• Pastel colour palette
• Primary colours

Bold TP: Which trends do you think are going to
Prints
be big this season?
CB: This spring/summer is all about bright
colour, prints, prints and more prints. Don't
be afraid of them. Embrace it and for the
conservative; dress it down with a pair of ripped demin shorts or jeans.
I always have a long list of 'must have items' each season but this season I definitely
think THE item to have is a bold print. Translate the trend into a cropped
tee, jumpsuit, pencil skirt, pointed heels or clutch bag. It's
all about welcoming back the sun. The scuba
pencil skirt is also on my list as well as a good pair
of gladiator sandals. Oh and a statement tee.
And, and and...
TP: Who do you think is the SA designer to watch at
the moment? And internationally?
CB: It's so hard to pic one designer to watch,
especially when it comes to our rich variety of South
African designers. I always love what Loin Cloth and
Ashes is up to as Anisa has a significantly South African
stamp to her collections. Kathryn Kidger is another
designer I always keep my eye on because she
consistently works with exciting textiles, colours and
silhouettes. Then Bianca Warren, also from Durban has a
classic elegance that she brings to each season. David Tlale
blows my mind and Johan Gert Coetzee is another designer that makes
you want to be a princess. Internationally I'm really loving what Rachel Zoe is up to. She is
incredible at merging runway trends with wearable fashion.
TP: Out of the five fashion capitals (Paris, Milan, London, New York, Durban), which do you associate your
style with best and why?
CB: As much as I would like to be a classic Parisian dressed in Chanel from top to toe I am hands
down a Durban girl. My style is casual and wearable. Comfort is key and I love mixing vintage
with hot trends. I wear heels when I have to and only if they are comfy. I'm borderline
OCD when it comes to leopard print, it's like my stamp of mzansi on each outfit I
wear. My style is laid back just like the lovely folk here in the 031.

TP: Which trends do you think are going to be big this season?
KH: Spring is the season to introduce colour and boldness back into our wardrobes, the tropical print
trend (which includes pineapples) is a biggie for spring which is exactly that - bold.

TP: Who do you think is the SA designer to watch at the moment? And Playsuit,
internationally? R119,99,
KH: Locally, Celeste Lee Arendse from Selfi, her SS14/15 collection at Mr Price
Mercedes Benz Cape Town Fashion week was perfection and I love her
aesthetic. Internationally, I am always watching Kate Spade, it is a firm
favourite.
TP: What is your must have item for Spring?
KH: A cute denim dress

TP: Which colours must we look out for this season? prints
KH: Pastels, citrus shades, and pinks
TP: Out of the five fashion capitals (Paris, Milan, London, New York, Durban),
which do you associate your style with best and why?
MN: A lot of my fashion inspiration comes from New York because I am obsessed with the city as a
whole. The style there is fashion-forward, cool and edgy. My personal style is perfectly suited to
Durban though because it is casual and laid back just like the Durban culture.

TP: What is your must have item for Spring?
MN: A new fragrance with a breezy and cool aroma.
TP: Which colours must we
look out for this season?
MN: The colours to watch
for this season are pastels
and neutrals because
they can be easily
married and because
SA men are becoming
bolder and experimental with colours.
TP: Out of the five fashion capitals (Paris, Milan, London, New York,
Durban), which do you associate your style with best and why?
MN: It is definitely Durban; the style and menswear movement is slowly
gaining momentum and being in Durban allows me to experiment with
many aesthetics that are foreign, but keeping it proudly South African at the
same time. When you're from Durban you're easily identifiable when you wear certain
brands that are synonymous with the city. Fresh, cool

TP: Which trends do you think are
going to be big this season?
AN: This season brims with
fresh concepts and reinvented
trends. A style vocabulary that
brings us closer to nature
whilst keeping us true to the
artistry of street culture. The
crisp white shirts remains as
we take off the heavy layers of
winter. We will be spotting a lot
of clean lines, feminine florals,
silhouettes that are exaggerated
and loose fitting - with a few fine
art brush stroke bold prints. The
season sees a range of sport luxe trends
through leather, crop tops, and sneakers that have carried
s, R390, over, as well as the classic monochrome for the colour-shy. There's a cultured
Space mash-up of ethnic prints that sweep the floor with the fringed detail and the
easy flat sandals.

Designer to

TP: What is your must have item for Spring? Maaranen
AN: My personal must-have is an over-sized crisp white shirt.
TP: Who do you think is the SA designer to
watch at the moment? And internation-
ally?
AN: After attending the Durban Fashion
Fair this past weekend I would advise one
not to bad an eyelid towards Sanele Cele
of TemprachaLife, this menswear designer
keeps his fashion ball rolling far ahead the
curve & bridges the gap between local and
international style with ease. International-
ly, I advocate Satu Maaranen.
TP: Which colours must we look out for this
season?
AN: There's the icy pastels and my personal
love, Monochrome (black & white), this duo is
a timeless Winner.CAPITAL Shop Local, Wear Global! Spend R350 or more and you could find yourself shopping on the fashionable streets of Milan! 21 August - 30 September T’s & C’s Apply
