In addition to serving as the Township’s legal agent and Secretary to
the Assessing Board of Review, the Township Supervisor is responsible for
moderating board meetings, developing the township budget,
recommending members to the various boards and commissions, and
managing the day-to-day operations of the Township.
Chesterfield Community,
As we begin reflecting on 2020, it makes me proud of our staff members who continued to
move Chesterfield Township forward during this unprecedented time. Your Chesterfield Township team
continues to offer the same level of services that our residents expect of us by streamlining new
processes and creating new programs within our community. The efforts put forth by all of our
members do not go unnoticed and are gratefully appreciated.
The year 2020 saw a great many project beginnings and project completions. The Webber
Paddle Park is now complete and offers our residents a safe place to launch their kayaks and paddle
boards along the Salt River corridor. Additionally, we’ve completed several projects inside the
Township Municipal Offices including a barrier-free front counter and modernized restrooms near the
Senior Center.
Brandenburg Park will remain closed through Spring 2021 as our Shoreline Restoration Project is in
full swing. It will soften the natural shoreline and create native habitats that will increase the fish
population in Lake St. Clair. The acquisition of property at the end of Hooker Road was purchased with
the intent of becoming the Salt River Nature Center. This investment is another step forward in
preserving the natural resources in Chesterfield Township. The land was purchased with the help of Six
Rivers Land Conservancy, First State Bank, and the recently awarded Michigan Natural Resources Trust
Fund Grant. Its preservation is vital in protecting our natural resources and will help connect our unique
waterways here in Chesterfield.
As we continue moving forward in the year ahead, I wish everyone a safe and prosperous 2021.

Recreation for all: Youth, Adults, & Seniors
While we may be apart for now, the Chesterfield Leisure Services Department is always thinking
about our friends in the community and the day when we can safely come together again. For the
foreseeable future, the Chesterfield Township Senior Center will remain closed for “walk-in” activities.
Be sure to like us on Facebook at Chesterfield Township Senior Center and/or Chesterfield Township
Parks and Recreation to avoid missing out on the latest news. “Pop-up” programs and activities
are the new way of doing things based on changing guidelines surrounding the unpredictability
of COVID-19. Leisure Services employees have been up and down, one minute in the foreground
and the next second, behind the scenes. We run full-force to drive programs and are forced to
pull back when required; researching resources, sites and ways to continually offer programs under
ever-changing health and safety advisories. Leisure Services has been revamping, redesigning,
planning, creating, communicating and working hard to provide the best messages and ideal
services where and when we can. There has been a ton of new and creative material being
visualized and instituted in both recreation and seniors. Great effort goes into securing contractors,
coordinating employees, making plans, purchasing materials, locating facilities, re-imagining
programs and thinking “outside of the box” to safely engage with all of you! It all must come
together and continues to as we service the Chesterfield community. There has been a ton of new
and creative material being visualized and instituted in both recreation and seniors throughout the
pandemic.
Follow us often on our Facebook page, visit our website at parks.chesterfieldtwp.org or give us a
call at 586-949-0400 ext. 4. All activities require pre-registration and enrollment can be done online
at parks.chesterfieldtwp.org, over the phone by calling 586-949-0400 ext. 4, or in-person by
appointment only. In an effort to best keep everyone safe, there will be a limited number of people
allowed to gather for each assigned activity and space fills fast! The Chesterfield Leisure Services
Department adheres to mandates as set-forth by the Michigan Department of Health and Human
Services and CDC guidelines for disease prevention. We make adjustments,
closures/cancellations and enact procedures in accordance with their requirements and within the
guidance of the elected Chesterfield Township Board. Programs in this publication are subject to
change. Registrants should be flexible in mindset and ready for program switches based on the
health crisis (virtual, “grab and go”, or date/time changes.) When a full cancellation occurs,
participants will receive a refund (minus service fees.)
Please reach out to your Leisure Services team at any time. We welcome the opportunity to get to
know you! Best wishes for a safe, healthy, peaceful, and joyful New Year. Looking forward to
togetherness in 2021!

Chesterfield Twp. Because we have 3 boys and they absolutely love the parks and rec

fun, and very well organized! This played a major factor in our housing decision and we are
excited to be residents and can’t wait for youth programs to start back up!”
