15th Hole update
All of the work around the 15th Green is now
completed
The two bunkers on the left of the green were re-
built and a new bunker to the right side was
added, all turfing is now complete around bunkers
and the mounding
New 15th Fairway bunker
A new bunker has been built on the right side of
the 15th fairway at around the 100 yard mark.
This particular bunker was built mostly for the
championship golfer making them think about
their landing area when standing on the tee!!
There is another bunker in the plans on the left of
the fairway again at around the 100 yard mark to
be scheduled at a later date

Extract from a Links Report prepared by the Links Chairman Terry Brady
• During 2019 the standard and presentation of our course has received much praise from members, visitors, the R&A
and the GUI for whom we hosted 3 Championships in the year.
• In recent weeks, STRI, our agronomist, has reported very positively on our progress. STRI, a leading turf consultancy
firm, is agronomist to the Club since the 1970’s.
• Some quotes from the most recent STRI report confirm:
“The putting surfaces were at their most inviting to date”.
“Huge progress to the percentage and quality of fescue grass”.
“Many sections were stunning.”
• In winter the greens are at their most vulnerable with the biggest threat coming from unrepaired pitch-marks. Please
repair at least 2 pitch-marks on every green.
• Many thanks to the members involved in the devoting evenings and repairing pitch-marks during the year.Winter Mats
Winter mats are in play.
Mats must be used for all shots from the fairways (except
when putting), semi rough and Par 3 Tees.
Mats are to be used on both the Championship and
Bomore courses
Mats are available to purchase in the shop.Putting with the Pin in A message from Head Greenkeeper Mark Millar Since the new putting rule has been in place allowing a player to putt with the pin still in the hole, every Greenkeeper in the country is not overly happy with this change. We are seeing the edges of the holes being regularly damaged, much more so than previously when the pin was removed. Our team are having to change holes more often due to the damage thus taking man hours away from other jobs. Can I please encourage members to carefully lift the pin out before you pick your ball out of the hole, what happens is when the pin is still in the cup you put your hand in and damage the edge of the hole as you have less space than when the pin is out. The other way we are seeing the edge damaged is when golfers pop the ball out of the hole with the pin, when this happens the ball pops up and hits the side of the hole, again the best way is to gently lift the pin out and then lift your ball out of the hole. Thanks, Mark
Winter Rules All ropes and stanchions on the course are to be treated as immovable obstructions from which free relief is allowed under rule 16.1. Relief is not allowed under rule 15.2. Penalty for Breach of Local Rule: 2 strokes or Loss of Hole. If players swing or stance (but not line of sight) is impeded by the rope or the stanchion, the player may avail of relief at the nearest point not nearer the hole. A player moving a rope or stanchion whether in the course of playing a shot or otherwise incurs a 2-stroke penalty or loss of the hole in matchplay. If a ball strikes a rope or stanchion the stroke may be replayed at the players discretion without penalty.
Wehrly’s Winter League Table Due to an Orange weather warning alert for Storm Atiyah, the Winter League round for the 8th December was postponed. This round will now be played on the spare Sunday 8th March 2020 Current Table Standings after 3 Rounds

Junior Golf Report We are delighted to announce that Niall McDermott has been appointed as our Junior Boys Captain for 2020. Niall has been involved in the junior boys program since he was 6 years old. He has developed into a top class golfer and is now Connacht Boys U18 Inter Pro player and plays off a handicap of 2. He is a fantastic young man and we believe he will follow Tom Flanagan’s excellent example set during 2019. We believe Niall will have the respect of all the Junior boys. Best of luck to him in his year.
Junior Golf Report The Junior Boy Golfer of the Year for 2019 (or Race to Bomore!!) was won by Conor Meade. He narrowly defeated Luke Harrison and others that came close were Aodhaghan Brady and Ross Clifford. It all came down to the last green in the last competition. Very exciting stuff. Our Junior boys Winter Coaching program is continuing under the Pro David McQuillan. We are planning a fun scramble for the 27th December to coincide with the Neafsey Cup. This will be a 9 hole Shot Gun start at 10am in Bomore.
