Corona:
The lung disease Covid-19 is having a greater impact on the
economy every day. Our checklist is designed to support you
in dealing with the current challenges in your company. We
provide information on obligatory measures, answer questi-
ons on the subject of short-time work and provide technical
tips on how to ensure smooth operations in your company.
What measures should be taken by companies
As long as there are no confirmed cases of infection among your employees, no legal measures need to be taken
at present. The general duty of protection and care for the health of your employees therefore still applies, which
means that the dangers and risks for employees must be kept to a minimum. Depending on the field of work,
providing disinfectant or giving rules of conduct and instructions to the employees can be the most effective
way to ensure that the health of your employees is protected. Risk groups must be particularly protected by the
employer. In general, the risk group includes persons over 65 years of age, persons with previous illnesses or
persons who are exposed to an increased risk of infection due to their workplace.

Short-time work Short-time work is the temporary reduction of the working hours of em-
ployees. Its primary purpose is to withstand a temporary economic sta-
gnation and to prevent employee layoffs. Employees have the right to
What short-time work is and what refuse short-time work, in which case the employer must continue to pay
you should know about it the full salary. Short-time workers receive 80% of the loss of earnings as
compensation, i.e. the salary lost as a result of short-time work.
Switzerland1:
As a result of the current exceptional economic situation, the Swiss Con-
federation is extending the restriction of short-time work and simplifying
its application:
– The pre-notification period has been reduced from 10 to 3 days
– Short-time work compensation can now also be applied for
employees in temporary employment and persons working for a
temporary work agency
– It can also be applied for employees who are close to employers,
e.g. shareholders of a Ltd.
– Work loss should now also be creditable for persons in an
apprenticeship
– Employees do not have to reduce their overtime first in order to
benefit from short-time work compensation
– The waiting period for short-time work compensation is lifted
Germany 2:
The Federal Employment Agency has also simplified the existing regulati-
ons for short-time work:
– Temporary employees can also go into short-time work and are
entitled to short-time allowance
– Entitlement to short-time working compensation exists if at least
10% of the employees have a loss of earnings of more than 10%
– Short-time allowance can be applied for retroactively as early
as March 1st
– Social security contributions for lost working hours are fully
reimbursed
– Short-time working allowance can be drawn for up to 12 months
– In companies in which agreements on working time fluctuations are
used, no negative working time accounts are set up
Austria3:
The Federal Ministry for Digital and Economic Affairs has also opted for
extraordinary corona regulations:
– The application for short-time working allowance can be submitted
quickly and retroactively from March 1st
– A loss of working hours of at least 10 % and at most 90 % of the
normal working hours stipulated by law or collective agreements must
exist; within the short-time working period there may be a loss of
working hours of 100 %, but the average loss of working hours during
the short-time working period may not exceed 90 %
– The short-time working allowance is granted at a flat rate per hour
of absence
– Apprentices will continue to receive 100% of their previous
apprenticeship compensation
– Aid will initially be granted for a maximum of three months and may
be immediately extended for a further maximum of three months if
all conditions are still met

structure and organization are especially important
The right technical tools enable secure and successful home office:
Teleconferencing tools: Conferences and meetings in shared rooms
should be avoided: Numerous providers of digital conferencing solutions
such as Microsoft Teams, Google Hangouts, or RingCentral can help. Many
providers are currently expanding the free features of their systems to
support you!
Collaboration Tools: Slack, Facebook Workplace and other communica-
tion services enable employees to communicate with each other quickly,
easily and directly even from their home office
Data access: Data access must also be guaranteed from home; software
for synchronizing and sharing company data, RAS tools or a virtual desk-
top infrastructure can contribute to this; Microsoft OneDrive, Dropbox,
TeamViewer and others would be suitable for this purpose
Security tools: To ensure the security of company data, a VPN service
such as Microsoft Azure Active, Google Identity or NordVPN can be used
