Dear Ladies and Gentlemen
Working under the Ministry of Forestry and Water
Affairs, there are main governmental agencies
responsible for development of water resources
all over Turkey. In terms of water resources, we
consider two main water problems in Turkey:
Flood and Drought. These natural disasters can
result in social and economic damages. Scien fic
studies point out that as a result of the global

have been occurring more destruc ve with larger
scales than those happened in the past. Impacts of global warming and
climate change have been intensified with each passing day in the World
and in our region. These condi ons add to the weight of water
administra on in the semiarid zones in which Turkey is located as well.
Our Ministry and other related organiza ons have accomplished a great
deal towards comple ng facili es mi ga ng the adverse effects of flood
and drought disasters. I would like our na onal organiza ons to con nue
on achievements and efforts for this challenge. We also try to discuss
water resources problems in conference, congress and symposium. This
Interna onal Symposium and exhibi on is one of important events to
discuss our water problems with neighboring countries. We think that
special technical sessions will be presented on large dam projects, which
have been completed or under construc on now in Turkey and other
countries. The purpose of this symposium is to
provide opportunity for the dam safety
community to share important informa on,
lessons learned and new technology.

Dear Colleagues, Ladies and Gentlemen!
On behalf of the Organizing Commi ee, I would
like to cordially invite you to the 5th Interna onal
Symposium on the Safety of Dams in Istanbul. The
Conference Center is located in a pleasant, calm
and in mate atmosphere of the historic city of
Istanbul, which lies on and around the Bosphorus
between Asia and Europe.

The aim of the symposium is to provide

par cipants with a forum to exchange experiences
and informa on about new technologies. The
Organizing Commi ee will work extremely hard to present an interes ng
and innova ve program that will also include excursions to dams in
Istanbul.
In addi on to workshops and lectures, there will also be a special technical
mee ng on the major dam projects already completed or under
construc on in Turkey and neighboring countries. For the symposium, we
are planning informa on days for some countries with presenta ons on
local water resources and hydraulic structures.
The cultural program for par cipants and accompanying persons includes
cultural, historical and social events with Turkish hospitality. The program,
prepared for the par cipants and accompanying persons, will offer in
addi on to the city tours also mul -day sightseeing tours to historical and
tourist sites including Ephesus, Pamukkale and Cappadocia at moderate
prices following the symposium.
The interna onal city of Istanbul offers excellent
conference facili es, as well as convenient
interna onal transport links and a well-developed
local transporta on network.
