ESSENDON ROYALS S.C.
SNAPSHOT OF THE PAST & A VIEW OF THE PRESENT
The Royals were formed in 1959 as Unione Sportiva
Triestina. The name reflected the Italian roots,
specifically the city of its founders, Trieste. Since
those early days the Club has experienced its fair
share of promotions and relegations. It has played in
virtually every division including the Victorian Premier
League. Four mergers over that period have also seen
the Club’s name change frequently. The last merger
with East Brunswick-Ivanhoe SC in 1994 added Royals to the club's name. Despite all these changes, the Club continues
to follow the tradition of its founders, providing the local football community with an opportunity to indulge their
passion for the World Game.
Today Essendon Royals are one of the top 10 largest community clubs in Victoria, with over 650 members. With
football booming in the Moonee Valley Region, Essendon Royals boasted 42 registered teams in 2017. Year upon year
the Royals have had significant member growth and successes on and off the field. At the Junior and Youth level, the
Royals are bigger and better than ever. Our overall squad development through the juniors has doubled since 2012.
Women’s and girl’s football continues to grow, and we are looking to expand these programmes significantly over the
next three years. On the field our U14A squad were crowned champions at the Keilor Cup and the Royals dominated
North-West with our U18A and U20A also winning the championship. Our Men and Women Senior teams over the
past few years were steadily promoted and in 2016 made it to State 1. This year both teams succeeded in maintaining
their positions in these leagues, which was a significant achievement for the club. In upcoming seasons, the Royals are
seeking to challenge for the championship with the view to expanding the overall club into the National Premier
League Competition. Finally, our Masters team, only established in 2014, amazingly has been Champions 3 years
running. Success and growth is a trend at the Essendon Royals Soccer Club!
In addition to the competitive success Essendon Royals have
experienced, it is also a place for men, women, boys and girls to
come and play football, develop skills, friendships, have fun and
relate to the local community and the sport they love. Their
families follow them and love to be part of the club atmosphere.
The emotions, memories made, and friendships built over the
years cannot be quantified. We invite your business to become

LET OUR SUCCESS BE YOUR OPPORTUNITY
In 2018 and beyond, Essendon Royals has ambitions to grow the club,
improve the facilities and significantly increase our profile and presence in
the hearts and minds of the footballing public in greater Melbourne. We
want the Royals to be the destination club for football and fun in the
Moonee Valley Region. To achieve this, we know the club needs to
improve all aspects of the services and benefits we provide to members.
To accompany our growing success on the field we have plans in progress
to; improve facilities, our coaching and player development positions,
expand our volunteer workforce and capabilities and establish more
teams especially in women’s and girl’s football. Your company has an
outstanding opportunity to join us on this journey of success, growth and
community prosperity.
Essendon Royals are already part of the Moonee Valley plan and this is
part of our extensive facilities improvement strategy. Along with our
headquarters at Ormond Park in Moonee Ponds, four years ago we
secured the use, of the significant venue of Cross Keys Reserve, which has
an approved Master Plan ready to be executed. We have already had the
significant benefit of having brand new lighting and reconfigured sporting
fields. In 2018 and 2019 the venue will be extensively upgraded with a
brand-new pavilion, clubrooms and paved car parking. Our new and
existing pavilions will offer our sponsors considerable opportunities for
signage on the premises and during major club and community events.
This will provide opportunities for brand recognition within the socio-
economically affluent area of Essendon, Strathmore, Pascoe Vale and
Moonee Ponds.
Aside from facilities, we have other significant targets set in our 2018-
2020 Strategic Plan. To implement our substantial growth and profile
plans, Essendon Royals plan to improve our financial position by 20% by
2020. This improvement will be achieved by a combination of
membership growth of up to 30%, an increase in sponsorship, grants and
our regular and extraordinary fundraising efforts. We will attract new
members and retain existing ones through our improvements to player
and coaching development and accreditation, as well as talent
programmes. In addition, we will focus on new programmes for women,
futsal and disadvantaged community groups. We also plan to implement
deeper links to schools and other community institutions to improve the
clubs profile and community impact. These improvements all represent an
opportunity for our sponsors to gain significant recognition as our
partners as we achieve more at Essendon Royals. Come with us on that

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
Over the years previous committees, volunteers, coaches and sponsors have
invested much into this club. It takes a great deal of passion and commitment
to do it, and even more to do it well! With your support and that of other
sponsors, coaches, parents, volunteers and the tireless work from our
committee, we will make it the best club it can possibly be!
Following the significant achievements in 2016 on the field, we experienced
great progress in 2017. I am proud of our U14, U18, U20 and Masters
championship teams, but there are also all the developmental successes that
often go unseen. The reputation of the Royals has seen our Mini Roos expand
significantly and girls joining the club in record numbers. Essendon Royals is
certainly a club “on the up”. To keep our club “on the up” we have developed a
strategic plan for the next 3 years that is ambitious, but we believe is
achievable. We have programs in place to expand and improve our playing
facilities as well as investing in our junior players and coaches, to maintain the
success of our Youth, Senior and Masters teams. The significant plans for
development at Cross Keys will boost the Royals capability and capacity to do
great things in the community over the next decade. Once completed the
development at Cross Keys will be a significant landmark in the Northern
Suburbs and will attract substantial community attention and retaining
Ormond Park, will only give impetus to the growth and success of our club. We
will retain our strong coaching team led by Michael Curcija, former Socceroo
and respected football identity, set to play an expanded role in the club.
Essendon Royals is a proud and ambitious club that has strong guiding values,
diversity and community links. As we move forward the hard work and
dedication of past members that proudly wore our club badge, remain in our
hearts. As a lifelong member of this club, I have experienced firsthand what it
means to be a Royal. As a junior player coming through the ranks into my
senior career, now as a coach and a successful master’s player, I want to share
what this club has given to me. I want to bring back the soul of the club and for
people to know where the club has been and where it is going. To make it all-
inclusive, where people know the committee and the other families around
them, not just the ones in their team. We want people to enjoy what the club
is giving the kids (fun, skills, discipline, and lifelong friends) and the families
(enjoyment watching their children, gain new friends and a sense of
community). I hope that your sponsorship can give you something of what it
feels like to be part of such a great club like the Royals. Becoming a sponsor
can give you access to our current members as well as those who are lifelong
Loyal Royals experiencing what our club offers. We know we can achieve our
ambitious targets and improve our community and our member’s experience,

As a community club Essendon Royals generally relies on our
membership revenue, generous sponsors and our fundraising efforts
through the year. We have many initiatives to improve the club and we
proudly support several charities as we recognise the benefits of our
expansive member base to help important causes.

What your funds will help with @Royals: supporting our women &
Facilities improvement: At Ormond Park & contribution to Royals girls in football and in life
specific initiatives with the Cross Keys development
Coaching education: From 2018-2020 Royals intends on have 75%
of coaches FFA certified with an additional 5-10 C-Licensed coaches
greatly impacting our delivery to our members.
Growing women’s football: Essendon Royals is committed to
building the women’s game in Moonee Valley. Contributions go to
Women’s coach development and venue allocation.
Establishing 7-a-side football teams: 7-a-side football is played by
footballers with Cerebral Palsy, Acquired Brain Injuries and those
with stroke related impairments. Royals plan to have 2 teams
established for Junior & Seniors by 2020. Players will be offered
positions free with all registration, apparel, and equipment &
coaching funded by sponsors.
Supporting disadvantaged footballers: Not all players can afford
the simple things like membership and equipment. Royals is an
inclusive and diverse club that wants to expand the football passion
and enjoyment through the North West.
We contribute to charities together:
5% of all Sponsorship contributions to Royals are given to charities. Your
sponsorship will focus on:
Australian Mitochondrial Disease Foundation: Royals has proudly
supported this charity for many years. We want to support AMDF
to find treatments and eventually a cure to this debilitating disease.
National Breast Cancer Foundation: As a part of our commitment
to women & girls in football, Royals are establishing a relationship
with NBCF to support our women and girls in football and life.
Social & Brand impact around Essendon
