FEBRUARY, the month of Carnival
Title: Fano Carnival

Description: It's the oldest Carnival in Italy where parades of
floats are interspersed with original masquerades. The music is
combined with tons of sweets, thus creating a unique spectacle.

Title: Historical Carnival of Offida
City: Offida
Province: Ascoli Piceno
Description: The most exciting moments of the Carnival are "lu bov fint" and "v'lurd", in
addition to children's parties and numerous balls.
Organized on the day after jeudi gras, Friday fat, hunting "Lu bov fint" consists in running
through the streets of the town a silhouette of ox, led by two men covered with a white cloth
with red stripes, the colors of the town. On the evening of Shrove Tuesday, the procession of
lights "V'lurd", it is long bundles of reeds filled with straw burning that are carried along the
streets of the town and thrown into the streets for the final bonfire, around which masks run
in a circle waiting for the fire to go out and is sealed so the end of Carnival and the beginning
of Lent.

Title: The Scacciamarzo
City: Monsano

Description: The Scacciamarzo, noisy and very old ritual chant of child begging, originates
from the ritual "caccià marzu", carried out until the early years of the last century. This magic-
heathen song has an unmistakable exorcising function: to drive out the "evil" (the winter) and
greet and propitiate the "good" (the new season, the sun, the resurgent spring).

It will be possible to enter the halls of the stucco with the stories depicted on the vaults of the
noble environments of the building. The FAI will ensure the promotion of the initiative and
the training of guides who will accompany the visitor, will provide printed material and will
put it in the online communication tools. Afterwards, it will present the publication about
Federico Barocci, curated by the Superintendent for the Historical, Artistic and Ethno-
anthropological Heritage of the Marche Region, Maria Rosaria Valazzi. The leading thread will
be the works performed by the great artist from Urbino in the territory. The editorial work
will be presented in Senigallia on the occasion of the event sponsored by the circuit of culture
and tourism of the “Terra del Duca”, scheduled for April 5th and 6th, 2014. The Municipality
will allow to enter the rooms decorated by the sculptor from Urbino Federico Brandani.

MAIN HISTORICAL REENACTMENTS Title: La turba (The crowd) City: Cantiano Province: Pesaro-Urbino Description: The representation, that takes place every year in the beautiful country of Cantiano, has its origins as far back as the thirteenth century between the lands of Umbria and Marche, when the population in the street called for the holy intercession of God and Our Lady to put an end to a life of misery, continual wars and famines: a "crowd" of people prayed the grace of better living conditions, imploring forgiveness, invoking peace and brotherhood. Title: Federico Barocci: The Painter of the Terra del Duca

Description: The great painter Federico Barocci from Urbino
to whom the National Gallery in London has recently devoted
a major exhibition that achieved a great success with
audiences and critics, he was maybe the artist who, more
than any other, managed to represent the ducal territory in a

Description: Fritto Misto is the annual appointment with the
Italian and international gastronomic tradition and dedicated
to fried food and its various forms in different Italian regions
and foreign countries. Ascoli Piceno and its quaint old town,
with its picturesque Piazza Arringo, one of the oldest in the
city, can only be considered the capital of fried food, able to surprise with its architecture and
meet the broad audience of curious and fans by cooking for them. It is well known indeed that
the city of Ascoli gave birth to the delicious "Oliva Ascolana del Piceno" that, in 2005, was

attention to important artists who were born in Senigallia during the twentieth century:
sculptors such as Alfio Castelli, Silvio Ceccarelli and Enrico Mazzolani who left a deep mark in
the history of Italian sculpture of the last century. It should be reminded that the Museum of
Modern Art in Senigallia collects and preserves many important artistic expressions in the city
as they occurred during the twentieth century, together with the important collections
related to Mario Giacomelli, Giuseppe Cavalli and many other photographers. It is important
to enhance the urban signs of Senigallia through the works of art and symbols of the twentieth
century in order to leave a tangible, accessible and clear sign of major artistic presence. In
particular, the sites concerned will be the Catalans Gardens and Piazza Saffi and buildings
such as the Palazzo della Nuova Gioventù (Palace of New Youth).

V's Shrine after the restoration at the Opificio delle Pietre
Dure in Florence"

Description: The so-called Reliquiario di Montalto (Montalto’s
Shrine), is a work made of different materials, 66.5 x 43 x 23 cm. in
size. It is one of the rarest and highest examples of late medieval
French goldsmith’s, unique for its age, size, artistic level and value
of the materials. The exhibition of the shrine restoration will be in
Florence at the museum of precious stones, at Christmas time. The
precious reliquary of Montalto Marche will be back to the town by
the beginning of Summer and could attract visitors from all over
the world. The display of the precious relic and the photographic panels of the various stages
of the restoration will promote the Marche Region, besides being an important document in
the history of Italian goldmith’s.

Description: In Senigallia, from the second half of the fifteenth century until the end of the
eighteenth, the great devotion to the Virgin Mary resulted in many art forms. Many
masterpieces will be displayed during the exhibition: there will be the altarpiece by Perugino,
the Madonna and Child with Saints John the Baptist, Louis, Francis, Peter, Paul and James the
Greater, preserved in the Church of Santa Maria delle Grazie and displayed for the first time
after the perfect restoration supported by a group of local businessmen. There will be works
by talented artists in painting and sculpture between the fifteenth and eighteenth centuries.

Title: 50th Macerata Opera Festival

Description: The 50th Macerata Opera Festival at the
Sferisterio, under the artistic direction of Francesco Micheli,
titled "L’opera è donna” (The work is woman), celebrates
three great heroines of melodrama: new productions of
"Aida", which opened its first season in 1921, and "Tosca",
together with the recovery of the "Traviata degli Specchi"
by Brockhaus and Svoboda. The program of the 50th edition will be the following: "Aida" by
Giuseppe Verdi (July 18th to 27th 2014 and August 2nd -10th 2014), "Tosca" by Giacomo
Puccini (July19th to 25th 2014 and August 3rd -8th 2014) and "La Traviata" by Giuseppe

Title: 27th International Festival of Chamber Music and Theatre –
Camerino Festival

Title: 25th edition of The Theatre of the World - International Festival of Theatre for
Kids

Description: "The Theatre of the World" is the largest Italy’s event dedicated to children's
theatre. It is one of the most complete Festivals with over fifty performances, workshops,
exhibitions, meetings, events, special projects, conferences. The event will take place in
different places of the town, including Villa Baruchello (that will host the workshop
activities), the Pineta Nord and Villa Murri. There will be two further locations: the “South-
Faleriense” Promenade and the “Centro” Promenadek, where the closing party of the event
will be held.

Title: 76th Grape Festival

Description: It is one of Italy’s most ancient festivals. The first festival took place on 23rd
September, 1928; it has been taking place for decades on the first Sunday of October and
three days earlier . The festival witnesses a centuries old heritage of traditions, culture and
farming: traditional dances, including the "ratchet "are performed by local folk groups; you
can also enjoy traditional songs that were sung during harvest time accompanied by
accordions. The members of the neighboring towns will participate in the The Palio of
Verdicchio, that is a crushing grape’s race. The floats in the parade are the key moment of the
festival. The stands , locally called " huts " supply grapes, wine and the typical products of the
local gastronomy.
