Already into February, the year has started with a
Chinese virus named after a Mexican beer, Trump being
impeached (or they hope) and the UK leaving the EU. It is a
good thing that this month has another day to assist us getting
over it. Speaking of the extra day Chris has managed to sneak a club
induction on the beach for this day, a once in a four-year opportunity.
Last month saw a couple of socials run, which Heidi and I were able
to get along to. This month brings a few driving events, and a social trip,
check them out and get along, they promise to be fun.
I have seen on FB plenty of banter, new cars purchased, cars
bogged in their back yard, notes from our intrepid travellers. Also, it has
many updates on future trips. Brolly’s have planned a huge trip to visit
some dinosaurs, and they have more plans. So, make sure you keep up
with the event page on Facebook.
Speaking of Facebook, it seems that making an event via a mobile
device has caused a couple of issues. We as a committee are looking into
this, as well as producing some new guidelines to assist trip leaders. We
“of the old school” are hoping to get proactive not reactive with the
technology.
Enough of my waffling, only a short one this month. I hope to catch
up with you on one of the many trips this month. Until then keep safe.

Have a good one

OUTLINE: SHREK THE MUSICAL is part romance,
part twisted fairy tale and all irreverent fun for everyone! The
hilarious story of everyone’s favourite ogre brought to life on
the stage. In a faraway kingdom turned upside down, things
get ugly when an unseemly ogre – not a handsome prince –
shows up to rescue a feisty princess. Throw in a donkey who
won’t shut up, a bad guy with a SHORT temper, a cookie with
attitude, and over a dozen other fairy tale misfits, and you’ve
got the kind of mess that calls for a real hero.

Seaworld By Josh Facey
Recently the club went to Seaworld on the Gold Coast. It was perfect weather for the day.
Mum and I met Angela (trip leader), Nigel and their daughter Elysha there for a fun filled
day.

We entered the Penguin Encounter exhibit where we came up close to the King Penguins.
You could watch them diving in and out of the water or sleeping.

Next, off to the Illuminated Jellyfish area. When you enter here you are able to see
Jellyfish in cylinder shaped tanks with different illuminated lights. You could watch them
as they move throughout the water. Upstairs there is a research laboratory where you
can learn about them.

Off to Nickelodeon where old and young went on a ride before heading to the Dolphin
Show. Due to the popularity of the Dolphin Show, there was standing room only. During
the show, we saw dolphins leaping into the air, jumping over objects and pushing people
through the water. It was an amazing show to watch.

Castaway Bay was next on our list. Here Elysha and I boarded a boat with water cannons
and shot people with water. This was fun except Nigel was on the land with a water
cannon and we got DRENCHED. Didn’t mind though as it was a hot day.

Polar bear exhibit was great viewing. We watched the Polar Bear from an underwater
viewing area. We could watch him swim and diving in the clear water. While we were
watching the Polar Bear from above, all of a sudden there was a loud splash and someone
in the crowd yelled out “NO”. When we looked down, all we saw was his mobile phone
sinking to the bottom of the enclosure. The Polar Bear now can phone his friends. Unsure
if it was retrieved during the day.

Lunch time, so we went to find a good view point for lunch and the Stunt Show. What an
awesome show to watch. How talented they are on the water ski’s, jet ski’s and even
jumping pushbikes. The show included the crowd which made it entertaining. At the end
they went along giving everyone in the front row high fives.

Shark Bay was amazing as you could view all sea creatures from underwater in the
viewing area. Mum and I decided to head off after that leaving Angela and Nigel to enjoy
the rest of the day as it was their first time at Seaworld.

Thank you for the trip. It was great.

Australia Day Pool Party By Sean Power
Australia day this year was a lovely day spent at the
Costello's place. It started off with Mum, Dad and Rhiannon
picking Bec and myself up from our place and a drive out to
Brightview.
When we arrived there was a small gathering of people
including, Ron and Rondda, David and Stella, Andrew and of
course, Gareth, Amanda and Joel. Arriving a little later were
ANZAC and Rosalie, Linda and Grizzly.
We started off by playing a Trivia game run by Amanda.
There was a large variety of questions including how many
records has Slim dusty released. Would you believe it’s 118!!
Danny and Andrew tied the trivia with 7 points each. After that
we played a game which we had to make an Australian shape
out of a milk arrowroot biscuit. Some photo examples can be
seen here.

After the fun of that we all jumped into the pool for a cool
down. After a nice cool down a wonderful lunch and lovely
dessert, we had one more swim before taking a group photo
and heading off. Some opted to stay the night and help Gareth
recover his bogged car and trailer. Many thanks to Gareth and
Amanda for their hospitality and a great day!
Sean
Ingredients:
                           Snap lock bags Ham
                           Tomato Egg
                           Capsicum Cheese
                           Salt and Pepper Milk
                           Method:
                         1. Place ham, cheese, tomato, capsicum and
salt and pepper into snap lock bag. (This can be
made before leaving home and frozen).
2. Open bag and add two eggs per bag and a small amount of milk.
3. Mix up ingredients, place bag into boiling water and serve when
     ready.

Needed: Easy carve Pork leg roast, Paper towel, tray, salt, wire pieces.
1. Pre-heat camp oven whilst getting the pork ready to cook. Place oven
next to fire (remember to rotate so that there are no hot spots).
2. Wash meat under cold water. Dry with paper towel. Oil meat and cover
in salt then place into camp oven. (use an aluminium tray sitting on
a trivet to allow for easy clean up).
3. The important step to get a perfect crackling in the camp oven.
Because of the moisture in the camp oven, the key is to crack the lid
for the entire cooking process. For the first 20 minutes place double
the amount of coals on top, then continue to cook as per normal.
4. Crack the lid using a piece of wire (e.g. a cut up coat hanger) and place
it under the lid for the entire cooking process allowing the steam to
escape and help create perfect crackling.

Breakfast on the Beach By Ron Harders
Happy New Year everyone.
Our annual Breakfast on the beach is a great way for the club to start a
new year and this one was another good one. Heidi and Danny got to our
usual spot near the Bongaree Jetty on the passage side of Bribie early to
claim it. Members continued arriving for several hours and bacon and eggs
were the popular choice for most but we cheated and had breckie before
we left home. We older folk need to keep our strength up. Some were still
having breakfast when we were having our morning tea but who cares. A
bonus for some was a visit to the markets near us.
We enjoyed having a chat and catching up but we were jealous of the kids
as they were all having a ball. Josh came back from his first ride on a Jet Ski
with a huge smile although it had been a bit scary but the smile got bigger
after each ride especially after he almost lost his togs on one wild one.
Alyssa and Cooper were also having fun jumping off the jetty and pontoons
with what appeared 50 other kids of all ages, not a mobile phone in sight.
Ex member Dell who lives on Bribie also joined us for a catch up. A suitable
purchase our Social Co-ordinator Sean might make, is a louder alarm clock
as he phoned around 10.30 to say he slept through his going off, anyway
that was his excuse. We are sure he will make a generous donation to the
Sergeant. People left at various times but we stayed on and a smaller
group had lunch and relaxed enjoying watching the activity around us,
great to see so many people having fun and enjoying what was another
beautiful day in our
paradise.
Thank you Heidi (and
Danny) for another
enjoyable Beckie on
The Beach.

ENGLISH AS SHE IS SPOKE
This is from an article in the VKS 737 Network News that they had reprinted from The
Women’s International Motorcycle Association (SA) newsletter. We had a laugh and hope
you do to, though it sums up the problems accurately. There are several versions of this
but we like this the best. Ron n Rhondda
Four all those who reed or right. We’ll begin with a box and the plural is boxes;
But the plural of ox became oxen not oxes.
One fowl is a goose, but two are called geese,
Yet the plural of moose should never be meese.
You may find a lone mouse or a nest full of mice;
Yet the plural of house is houses, not hice.
If the plural of man is always called men,
Why shouldn’t the plural of pan be called pen?
If I spoke of my foot and show you my feet,
And I give you a boot, would a pair be called beet?
If one is a tooth and the whole set are teeth,
Why shouldn’t the plural of booth be called beeth?
Then one may be that, and three would be those,
Yet hat in the plural would never be hose.
And the plural of cat is cats, not cose.
We speak of a brother and also of brethren,
But though we say mother, we never say methren.
Then the masculine pronouns are he, his, and him,
But imagine the feminine as (being) she, shis, and shim.
Some other reasons to be grateful if you grew up speaking English:
The bandage was wound around the wound.
The farm was used to produce produce,
The dump was so full that it had to refuse more refuse.
We must polish the Polish furniture.
He could lead if he would get the lead out.
The soldier decided to desert his dessert in the desert.
Since there is no time like the present, he thought it was time to present the present.
At the army base, a bass was painted on the head of a bass drum.
When shot at, the dove dove into the bushes.
I did not object to the object.
The insurance was invalid for the invalid.
There was a row among the oarsmen about how to row.
A seamstress and a sewer fell down into a sewer line.
I had to subject the subject to a series of tests.
The wind was too strong to wind in the sail.
ENGLISH AS SHE IS SPOKE
Multiple pronunciations can mess up your mind! For example…if you have a
rough cough, climbing can be tough when going through the bough of a tree.
Let’s face it –English is a crazy language.
There is no egg in eggplant, nor ham in hamburger, neither apple or pine in
pineapple.
English muffins weren’t invented in England.
We take English for granted, but if we explore its paradoxes, we find the
quicksand can work slowly, boxing rings are square, and a guineapig is neither
from Guinea nor is it a pig.
And why is it that writers write but fingers don’t fing, grocers don’t groce, and
hammers don’t ham.
Doesn’t it seem crazy that you can make amends, but cannot make a mend?
If you have a bunch of odds and ends, and get rid of all but one of them, what do
you call it, one odd and one end?
If teachers taught, why don’t preachers praught?
If a vegetarian eats vegetables, what does a humanitarian eat?
Sometimes I think of all the folks who grew up speaking English should be
committed to an asylum for the verbally insane.
In what other language do people recite at a play and play at a recital? Ship by
truck and send cargo by ship? Have noses that run and feet that smell? How can
a slim chance and a fat chance be the same, while a wise man and a wise guy are
the opposite?
You have to marvel at the unique lunacy of a language in which your house can
burn up as it burns down, in which you fill in a form by filling it out, and in which
an alarm goes off by going on.
If Dad is Pop how come Mum isn’t Mop?

Confused? I am. Perhaps a little Scotch or a glass of wine or three might help
unscramble my brain.

Back 30 years ago our club did not have to venture very far to have a day’s
fun. Areas like this one are now covered by houses or out of bounds. We
were also still learning lessons about what happens when a snatch strap
breaks. Ron Harders
Rob Wells ' Kingston mud run.
It's close to home and available whenever the rain has washed out other
activities- trips in state forest trips and the likes.
Sunday May 17th started off at 9am from Kmart Woodridge up Wembley
Road to the first section. This first mud pit was already occupied by a stuck
fast- all but dead Toyota Cruiser, bogged to the sills and suffering an un-
serviceable transfer case. His mate in a 2wd 1100 had tried to extract him,
and was now himself bogged. After several very 'last ditch' attempts by 'little
E” (Stewart's mate) Bob Cook, looped his turbo charged Hilux to the front of
the mob and heave ho!! The Toyota came unstuck.
The next section took our convoy of nine vehicles to the flooded Wembley
Creek area and after a few crossings of minor tributaries of said creek our
gung ho trip leader felt it could be fun to test the depth of the said waters..
Darryl Bassett volunteered for 'dip-stick' duty and waded out to the centre
of the creek. It was only oooh-aah almost oooh... the mud almost crotch
deep. No good, too-deep for 9 vehicles so the crossing was aborted.
Next, off to the big muddy spoon drain. This is about 1 km long 10 m wide
and maybe 400mm deep mud. Several drivers got stuck in this-- Damien
driving the white Hilux, Cliff (I'm definitely going to join the club) Joe,
Stewart and even Bob Cook. Bob put on a display of slow driving up and
down the drain and shame-shame he got stuck. This spot was meant to be a
short smoko stop, but the big baby boys wanted to play in the mud. We
were there for an hour. Here Justin and Doug Wells (red' suzy) left us and we
proceeded to the next locality known as the three sisters.
The three sisters are three interesting hill climbs side by side. Here Rob
showed us what happens when you drive in to a deep creek crossing and
forget to engage 4wd. This is what happens... You get stuck & water pours in
over the tail gate. Passenger Warwick had his feet up around his ears trying
to stay dry (without success).
From the ARCHIVES: Whispering Wheels June 1987

Bob was pulled out and managed to cross in his next attempt, in 4wd this
time. Next across was Stewart with lots of push, lots of splash and one
Mullet thrown out of the water by the wheel spin. These guys must have
made it very easy for everybody else because the rest of the convoy made
fairly easy work of it. .. .
The next mean little bog hole was just around the corner. 5 vehicles tried it
and they all got stuck a very hard snatch was needed to pull each car out. A
word of caution to all drivers Trevor was snatching Bob Cook out of this hole
when the strap snapped with a loud bang and went flying into Trevor's back
door inflicting a nasty dent. This equipment is obviously capable of inflicting
severe injury and should be treated with all due care.
For me this day showed some interesting comparisons, my little boy puts
gadgets on his bike and I rouse on him for playing in the mud. I put bits and
pieces on my 4wd and my wife rouses on me for playing in the mud.
We all had a great time, thanks Rob for putting on the trip. Rod Jenman.

required to complete our Club Induction before attending any trips
rated higher than “EASY”.
Driver Experience: Conditions on some trips rated
MEDIUM or above may prove too difficult for inexperienced
drivers even after the Club Induction. You should advise the Trip Leader of your
driving experience and vehicle equipment prior to signing up on the trip.

Trip Ratings: Trip Leaders—it is up to you to correctly rate your trips.
Make allowances for effects of weather on your trip and how it can effect the
novice 4wders.

*NOTE* some 4wds do not have the required recovery points, please contact
the Club Induction Assistant if unsure.
