REGISTRATION CERTIFICATE NO.2011/HE07/001EGAFD FEES POLICY
Students are not required to purchase their own machinery or computers. The Academy has industry
standard facilities for student use. The Academy prefers that students work on industrial machinery and
CAD software on campus. Students are encouraged to purchase their own equipment once they know
their preferences and understand how the equipment works. It is not a requirement to own their own
machinery or computers at any stage of their studies. The facilitators make an effort to open the facility
when there is a high workload on Saturdays and the facility is open Monday to Friday from 8:00 am to
4:30 pm.
The amount payable for Studio materials covers the initial tools and textbooks which are issued as a kit
to you at registration for your first year of study. In addition to the course fees, students and bursars
should budget for materials bought off-campus, especially in their 3rd year of study. During 1st and 2nd
year class exercise materials are often supplied and then charged to the students’ shop accounts.
Supplying materials in this way ensures the correct fabrics are used and minimises students’ time spent
driving to various suppliers to source their own fabrics.
If the student discontinues or changes course of study at any time, there will be no cancellation or
reduction of fees. The person responsible for payment of student fees will still be liable for the full
payment of the year’s fees, unless the student discontinues due to serious injury sustained or serious
condition diagnosed after enrolment, which prevents the student from continuing with their year. The
person responsible for payment of student fees is encouraged to disclose any pre-existing conditions
before enrolment. This information gives personnel the necessary information firstly to advise a different
course structure if considered necessary for student success and secondly to be able to treat the student
appropriately, especially in case of an emergency.

This covers first year text books as well as a specialised tool kit which is issued at the R 8 000
beginning of the year – no consumables such as fabrics, trims, printing or art consumables.
Studio Kit consist of:

We undertake to source all materials at reasonable prices from our suppliers. If there is a surplus after the kit has
been sourced, this surplus will go onto the student’s account as a credit for consumables bought from the
Academy shop. This kit cost does not include the annual materials, events, printing or outing costs. All materials
and services will be sourced at reasonable prices and will be appropriate for its intended use in class.

REGISTRATION CERTIFICATE NO.2011/HE07/001Part-Time Fashion Design Course (foundation course, part-time): South African Students
We decided to change our fee structure for this course in 2020. We have many reasons for this change, first of
which was 1) sustainability and second of which was 2) accessibility.
1) We think that by not providing each student with a full kit we are encouraging people to make use of
Academy resources or resources and tools which they already own at home. If a student wishes to then
purchase the tools or textbooks they use in class we will assist them with the sourcing. The only
additional things the student will need to purchase are the consumables – fabric, paper, thread, trims
and fastenings.
2) We think that we have managed our processes in 2019 in such a way that students studying on the part
time course do not contribute any significant wear and tear or admin costs associated with the 9 month
course. The main cost driver is the facilitator time and training.
Therefore, we have changed the fees to only the tuition amount of R 25 380 for the year 2021. There will be no
extra registration fee, kit cost (only for your specific purchases made and for consumables) or levies charge.
The R 25 380 can still be paid in 8 equal instalments. The first of which needs to be paid as soon as possible to
secure your place on the programme and the second of which will then be due on 7 April 2021 and the rest
remains as per the table below.

REGISTRATION CERTIFICATE NO.2011/HE07/001Part-Time Fashion Design Course (intermediate course, part-time): South African Students
We decided to change our fee structure for this course in 2020. We have many reasons for this change, first of
which was 1) sustainability and second of which was 2) accessibility.
1) We think that by not providing each student with a full kit we are encouraging people to make use of
Academy resources or resources and tools which they already own at home. If a student wishes to then
purchase the tools or textbooks they use in class we will assist them with the sourcing. The only
additional things the student will need to purchase are the consumables – fabric, paper, thread, trims
and fastenings.
2) We think that we have managed our processes in 2019 in such a way that students studying on the part
time course do not contribute any significant wear and tear or admin costs associated with the 9 month
course. The main cost driver is the facilitator time and training.
Therefore, we have changed the fees to only the tuition amount of R 25 380 for the year 2021. There will be no
extra registration fee, kit cost (only for your specific purchases made and for consumables) or levies charge.
The R 25 380 can still be paid in 8 equal instalments. The first of which needs to be paid as soon as possible to
secure your place on the programme and the second of which will then be due on 7 April 2021 and the rest
remains as per the table below.

Transport to and from classes from predetermined stops by shuttle bus. Only available during term
time and only from Monday to Friday.

All students
In addition to the course fees, students should budget for materials issued for class use and bought off-
campus. Students are not required to purchase their own machinery or computers. The Academy has
industry standard facilities for student use. The Academy prefers that students work on industrial
machinery and CAD software on campus.
International students
If you are not a citizen or do not have permanent residence status in South Africa, you must apply for a
study visa. If you are offered a place at the Elizabeth Galloway Academy of Fashion Design, please
contact your nearest South African Embassy, Consulate or High Commission to apply. This process can
take up to 8 weeks. The South African Department of Home Affairs is not obliged to grant you a study
visa because you have been offered a place at the Elizabeth Galloway Academy of Fashion Design –
they grant visas at their own discretion.
A person who is in the country with an Asylum Permit is considered to be a South African citizen.
Ensure that the permit is up-to-date because we cannot accommodate you on an expired permit.

Guideline for diploma fee assistance applications

Purpose of the Elizabeth Galloway diploma fee assistance
The purpose of the fee assistance is to make private higher education in fashion design more accessible
to deserving applicants. In particular Elizabeth Galloway Academy of Fashion Design Diploma candidates
are eligible to apply for fee assistance.
By awarding the first year fee assistance to deserving first year applicants we aim to enable people to
embark on their chosen career, and to promote our founder’s vision and goal with which she originally
started the Academy. Elizabeth is passionate about educating students and ensuring that they are
equipped with the necessary skills to add value to the local industry, and also to make their mark
internationally.
The Academy’s goal is to empower learners through training and skills development, thereby allowing
them to become economically independent and transfer their skills to others. The Academy is looking to
offer this fee assistance to applicants who share these same values, show potential and drive to be
successful, and meet the requirements of the fee assistance application.

REGISTRATION CERTIFICATE NO.2011/HE07/001REQUIREMENTS TO QUALIFY FOR DIPLOMA 1st YEAR FEE ASSISTANCE
1. The candidate must apply for the fee assistance. The application for fee assistance needs to be
complete and all supporting documents need to be submitted by 4 January 2021.
2. The candidate must meet the requirements for acceptance onto the Elizabeth Galloway Diploma.
Please attach your acceptance letter to your fee assistance application.
3. The candidate who applies for fee assistance has to be a South African citizen or have refugee
status. Please attach a certified copy of your ID or passport.
4. The total annual household income of the applicant must be a minimum of R100 000, 00 per year
or a maximum of R300 000, 00 per year. Proof must be provided in the form of the last 3 month’s
bank statements, and payslips for the same 3 months or sworn affidavits.
5. The candidate must have applied for a student loan at 2 financial institutions and must have been
rejected. Please attach proof from the bank that your application for a study loan was denied.
6. A written motivation letter by the applicant stating why the Academy should offer the fee
assistance to the applicant.
7. A written recommendation from a non-family member commenting on the applicant’s:
a. attitude towards peers and people in authority
b. work ethic
c. why this applicant should be awarded the fee assistance
Please Note: These requirements will be used in the selecting and granting of fee assistance and the
selection committee retains the right to use their professional discretion in putting forward
outstanding applications which may fall short on meeting some of the requirements. The Elizabeth
Galloway Academy of Fashion Design does not guarantee the same fee assistance for a second year.
Fee assistance for the second year will be considered based on performance and continued need for
financial assistance. The minimum performance standard required to be considered for continued fee
assistance in second year is a minimum of 80% class attendance, all first year modules passed and no
unpaid fees from the previous academic year.
THE DESICION OF THE FEE ASSISTANCE COMMITTEE WILL BE FINAL AND THERE WILL NOT BE ANY
obligation on the institution to provide reasons for the granting or not granting of the fee
assistance to any candidate who applies. The institution retains the right to offer, or not to offer
such fee assistance to candidates now or in the future. The Academy reserves the right to use the
requirements as a guideline in granting fee assistance to applicants. The committee may use their
professional discretion in grant decisions.

REGISTRATION CERTIFICATE NO.2011/HE07/001VALUE OF THE FEE ASSISTANCE AND APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS FROM APPLICANT
A discount of up to 50% of the Tuition fees will be granted to successful applicants. The Academy is
however not obliged to select any applicants and may only select those who meet the requirements
once submissions have closed. No late or incomplete submissions will be considered.
Applicants will have until Thursday 28 January 2021 to complete a payment of R 6 500.00 for their
studio kit to secure their spot for Fee Assistance.
Candidates who are awarded fee assistance need to complete all pre-payments by registration date.
These payments include the registration fee (R 2 900) and levies (R 5 060.00) which come to a total
pre-payment amount of R 7960.00. With prior arrangements this R 7690.00 can be divided into the 11
monthly payments if this is preferred.

I understand that if any of the information is found to be incomplete, false or misleading the Academy may
cancel any offer made, or my registration and there will be no reduction, refund or cancellation of fees.
I understand that if I discontinue or change course of study at any time, there will no cancellation or reduction
of fees. The person responsible for payment of student fees will still be liable for full payment of the year’s
fees, unless the student discontinues due to serious injury sustained or serious condition diagnosed after
enrolment, which prevents the student from continuing with their year. The person responsible for payment of
student fees is encouraged to disclose any pre-existing conditions before enrolment. This information gives
academic personnel the opportunity to advise a different course structure if they consider it necessary for the
student to be successful.
I understand the conditions of the continuation of any fee assistance awarded within my first year of study as
well as the potential re-consideration for any further fee assistance in the following years of my studies:
Minimum 80% class attendance
Minimum 50% grade for all modules
Complete payment of remainder of fees due to the Academy
Affordability for the Academy to award fee assistance in a particular year
