3. How long have you & your family
been members at the JCC?
You’re going to age me with this question, but I’m game.
When I was three years old I went to the preschool here.
And I’ve been a member here my whole Rochester life.
Much of my childhood was spent playing basketball (Dave
Rogachefsky taught me how to play in the JCC gym), hitting
racquet balls, and mulling around at the JCC. We’ve passed this
on to the next generation, as both of my children went to

8. How has the JCC impacted you and/or always thinking up new ideas like this. And I get a real thrill
your family’s lives? sharing them with others.
The JCC has kept us healthier, no doubt. Multiple times a
week we are either using the Nautilus or cardio equipment in
the Fitness Center. Our girls often swim multiple times a week
and have taken advantage of Gesher after school activities
that include exercise one way or another. While none of us are
crazy athletes putting in endless hours at the gym, we feel we
maintain a healthy lifestyle by regularly going to the “J”.
We also often go to the JCC together as a family, so that all of
our exercise needs can be taken care of together.
9. Is fitness part of your routine?
As a practitioner of Chinese Medicine, I look at the world
from a holistic lens. My children have been raised with the
understanding that exercise is necessary multiple times a
week if not daily. Our modern life is filled with indulgences.
We live in a culture that caters to our every whim. This makes
exercise 1000 times more important, because one can quickly
veer off into nurturing oneself to death in the US. It may
not always be fun to push weights until you strain, but it is
absolutely 100% necessary in the modern American culture
with all of its sedentary and culinary pleasures.

David retired in the late 1980s three dancers–Max
