A Note from the Artist
This year’s donation to the SIA SoCal Retreat Attendance Assistance Fund is dedicated to long-
time SIA member, Dawn Green, who was taken from us in her early forties by cancer.
In spite of the intense physical pain and constant emotional triggers she experienced during her
last years of life, Dawn never gave up. She attempted to live life to the fullest and make the most
of each moment she had. In doing so she modeled for each of us the meaning of the word
“courage.”
As such, The Courage to Fly is dedicated to her example. The jewelry set’s triangular forms
evoke the image of wings and the 12-Step connection we share as healing survivors. The set,
composed of several thousand glass seed beads lovingly woven together with a single needle and
thread, reminds us that we are stronger than we are apt to believe—that together we can walk
through the dark places that fears emerge from, and soar.

John Williams 44th AFI Life Achievement Award Commemorative Boxed Set & Book.
This highly-collectible exclusive boxed set of 11 films on Blu-ray
& accompanying 111-page book were distributed only once –– to
attendees of the American Film Institute [AFI] Life Achievement
Award gala event on June 9, 2016, in tribute to John Williams.
It was the first time in AFI history that this award was bestowed
on a composer.
Honoring Williams’ career spanning seven decades, the chairman
of the AFI Board of Trustees, Howard Stringer, declared:
“John Williams has written the soundtrack to our lives.”
The movies in this package – featuring some of the most iconic and recognizable scores in film
history – are capped by the original Star Wars (Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope), whose
music was selected by the AFI in 2005 as the greatest American film score of all time.
