GIVING GUIDE - Leadership & Adventure for Tomorrow The Campaign for Scouting
Scouting provides young people leadership, learning, service, and adventure – skills that will be both relevant and
impactful throughout their lives. The true cost of Scouting goes beyond the visible expenses you see such as books,
uniforms, Boys’ Life, equipment, registration, and meeting fees. The majority of Scouting’s expenses are unseen.
Friends of Scouting supports the sustainable operations of delivering this timeless program! Your Friends of Scouting
donation ensures that we can support more than 57,000 youth and over 18,000 volunteer leaders that we serve in
Michigan.

2021 CAMPAIGN: BUILDING THE FOUNDATION
                FOR MICHIGAN SCOUTING’S FUTURE

The best response to our changing financial picture is to share the opportunity with our community of donors to
build a solid financial foundation for the future of Scouting. Our 2021 Campaign launches a 5-year plan to solidify
and grow sustainable support for Scouting’s future. This strategy will protect the delivery and growth of Scouting
programs today, when our children here in Michigan need us the most, while growing future endowed earnings to
protect Scouting well into the future.

The Three Pillars of our 2021 Campaign:
• Seeking an annual campaign pledge now for each of the next 5 years, and promoting the Eagle Patrol and Second
  Century Society Levels of Giving
• Seeking a pledge to our permanently restricted endowment fund, and promoting the James E West Fellowship
and Second Century Society Levels of Giving
• Presenting options, discussing, and documenting planned gifts with our donors

together. Many Scouts have learned to love shooting
sports through their participation of rifle and shotgun

the traditions, discipline, and fun of learning safe target
shooting. Scouting continues to bring this important

2017-2018 Success Story:
“My first grade boys and I have been blessed to have
the opportunity to have the Boy Scouts of America
program in school led by Mr. Greg Cooley. Most of my boys
unfortunately do not have a positive male role model in
their life to learn how to become a responsible, trustworthy
citizen. There is not a male to have discussions with about
good character and how to treat others with kindness,
compassion, and sympathy. Mr. Cooley provides all of this

SCOUT STRONG VIRTUAL 5K & 1 MILE FUN RUN
The BSA believes that in order to carry out all the duties and
work of a Scout properly, one has to be strong, healthy and
active. The ScoutStrong Virtual 5K is a fun way to lead our
youth by example, and will ultimately help us continue the
important programs of the BSA throughout Michigan. The
run can be completed in any neighborhood, park, or new
area to explore! Participating in or sponsoring this event
showcases Scouting, its relevancy to our communities,
and can source critically needed funding through our
crowdfunding platform.

Participants receive an authentic race bib and finishing
medal.
