Regional context
The Goulburn Broken IWM Forum region covers an area of approximately
2.1 million hectares, extending north from Wallan, near the outskirts of
Melbourne, to the Murray River on the border with New South Wales.

The landscape and climate of the
region varies significantly between
the alpine country and the floodplains
along the Murray River. A majority
of the land in the Goulburn-Broken
catchment area is used for
agricultural purposes (66 per cent).

Population
The region has an estimated
population of 175,000, which is
forecast to grow by around 3,950
people each year. It is expected
to reach 270,000 by 2040.

This growth will be felt across a
majority of the major urban centres
of the region, with the highest growth
