Parks and Recreation Board
The Parks and Recreation Board is comprised of 15 members. Each city
council member appoints two members and the Des Moines Public School
Board appoints one member. The board meets monthly on the fourth Tuesday
in the board room at the Richard A. Clark Municipal Service Center located
at 1551 E. Martin Luther King Jr. Pkwy. The board recommends rules and
regulations for the equipping, maintenance, conduct, supervision and control
of the city playgrounds, recreation centers and special facilities. The board
also reviews and provides input for the operating and capital improvement
budgets. Four advisory committees provide citizen and expert input to the
board on various parks and recreation issues: Citizen Golf Advisory, Urban
Conservation, Citizen Cemetery Advisory, and Trails and Greenways.
