          Crescendo International Online Piano Contest
                       July 3 and 4, 2021
Presentation
After the success of the first edition, it is with great satisfaction that we announce the II
International Meeting of Online Pianists Crescendo (IIEIPOC), to take place on the 3rd and 4th
of July 2021, on the social networks Youtube, Instagram, Facebook and Zoom.
The objectives of the II International Meeting of On-line Crescent pianists are to
encourage the practice of the musical repertoire of literature for piano, from the 18th century
to the present day at home, through the presentation of concerts, masterclasses, magnates
classes, interviews, music training sessions for piano teachers and conferences on the most
diverse aspects of the practice of the instrument, from reading at first sight, to the health of the
musician, to the training of piano teachers, from historically informed interpretation, to the
practice of music contemporary, among others.
IIEIPOC also presents the “Crescendo International Online Piano Competition”, also in
the online modality, being an opportunity to stimulate piano students and amateurs of all ages.
In addition to the usual classifications of the 4 different levels of competition, divided
into ages, the prizes for best interpretation of Brazilian music and for best interpretation of
Portuguese music are attributed, in order to stimulate the interpretation of music from the two
Portuguese speaking countries. The first place in the Pianist of the Year category will be given
the opportunity to present 5 concerts in Europe and Brazil, as well as an invitation to present
the opening recital of the 2022 edition of EIPOC.
To innovate this edition, we will have another cycle of presentations, called Magna Class,
where some important figures, already consecrated in the history of music, from Portuguese-
speaking countries, among them composers, pianists, teachers and researchers will be
interviewed. More than a sincere tribute, the Magna class is a moment of history.
For this section, the following names are confirmed: in Portugal, the pianist Adriano
Jordão and the composer Sérgio Azevedo; in Brazil, the composers Ronaldo Miranda and
António Ribeiro, the pianists Eduardo Monteiro, Clelia Iruzum, Linda Bustani and Ney Fialkow
and professor Marisa Lacorte.
The new presentation model of the masterclasses section remains in the hands of guest
teachers of artistic and pedagogical excellence and will be thematic, according to the
specialization areas of each pianist, with live and free transmission, on the event's YouTube
page.

event.

Crescendo On-line International Piano Competition

IIEIPOC innovates the edition with the I Crescendo On-line International Piano
Competition, with the objective of encouraging the practice in the household of the instrument,
as well as promoting the interaction of pianists of any nationality.
In the same way that we encourage the continuation of the tradition of the practice and
domestic consumption of piano music, we believe that the mediation of new technologies
changes the paradigms of sociability and aesthetic appreciation of musical performance, and no
comparison between the modalities of online piano contests and face-to-face piano contests is
recommended.
In this sense, the “Crescendo On-line International piano competition” seeks excellence
in interpretations based on the sequence of works in a single video, without the need to perform
the entire repertoire without breaks, in a single take.
It is the objective that candidates have time and availability to listen through the various
recording attempts, so encouraged in teaching contemporary piano, perfecting their skills and
abilities in the practice of playing piano, even if the manipulation of the recording's image and
sound is not allowed.
In the same sense as the II Encontro Internacional de Pianistas On-line Crescendo, all
recordings must be made in a home environment and recordings on a traditional stage
(auditoriums) or in concert with a public present are not allowed.
Recordings made in personal studios or classrooms, on any type of 88-key piano,
acoustic or electric, will also be allowed in order to democratize access to participation in the
competition.
The “Crescendo On-line On-Line International Piano Competition” still has the mission
of encouraging and promoting solo piano music by composers from Portuguese-speaking
countries, to reward the best interpretations of music by Portuguese and Brazilian composers .
Registration will be open until June 15, 2021. The results will be published on the social
networks of the II International Meeting of Pianists and Escolas de Música Crescendo on June
26, 2021. The winners' concerts will be shown on the Youtube page IIEIPOC and Escolas de
Música Crescendo , on the 3rd and 4th of July 2021.

Recommendations for the recordings
    1. The recordings must have the best technical quality possible in terms of sound. You
should choose a space with little reverberation, without noise.
    2. Recordings should be done at home, but if this is possible, applicants should consider
        requesting their school's classroom.
    3. Recordings are not permitted in auditoriums.
    4. Place the camera two or three meters apart.
    5. Make sure that the recording location is well lit, that it is not backlit and recording in
        good image quality.
    6. Choose recording material with a good microphone, or use an external microphone,
ideally with the possibility of adjusting the recording level.
    7. In the device or application you use for recording, the automatic recording level
adjustment must be disabled in order to make, as far as possible, the nuances
        noticeable.
    8. Check that the nuances are noticeable by playing a pianissimo and a very strong passage.
Adjust the sound level, if necessary.
    9. If you use a cell phone for recording, make sure that it is not inserted in any cover, that
the camera is clean and that the holder where the cell phone is supported does not
        cover the microphone.
    10. After making the recording, listen to it in full before sending it.

The Jury
Cristian Budu, President of the jury
An impactively original pianist, with a musical maturity and
insight that makes his colleagues twice his age jealous”
                                    (Gramophone, 2016).
A Brazilian of Romanian origin, the young Cristian Budu is
already emerging as one of the exponents of his generation,
internationally. Endowed with an expressive and colorful
pianism, his poetic vein and sweeping communication
strength has made him a unique musical personality, inside
and outside the stages. From a very young age Cristian took
first place in several national contests, such as the Nelson
Freire Contest and the TV Cultura Prelude, but it was in 2013
that Cristian entered history by becoming the first Brazilian to win, at the age of 25 , the Grand
Prize - plus 2 extra prizes, including the public prize - from the Clara Haskil International
Competition, in Switzerland, in the commemorative year marking half a century of existence.
One of the most important and prestigious contests on the world stage, it chooses only one
winner per edition (and sometimes none), and has previously honored names such as Richard
Goode, Christoph Eschenbach, Mitsuko Uchida and Evgeni Korolyov. The next edition, in 2015,
had no winner. This award from Cristian was considered by the specialized critics as the most
important achievement on the behalf of a Brazilian pianist in the last 23 years, and has launched
him in an international career, being managed by the agency Artematriz, in Latin America, and
by the agency Caecilia, one of the most traditional in Europe; who would manage artists like
Daniel Barenboim, Nelson Freire, Joshua Bell and OSESP itself. Cristian also won the 2013 Prize
in the Young Talent Category of Concerto Magazine, which invited him as the youngest artist to
date to record the CD-of-the-year released exclusively for its subscribers in 2015. In 2016,
Cristian released his first solo commercial CD, by the Claves label, in Europe, which soon won 2
important awards: "Editor's Choice" in the English magazine Gramophone and "5-Diapasons" (or
5-Stars) in the French magazine Diapason, which became a new great achievement - since it was
always considered very rare for the same CD to receive awards in both magazines. This year
Cristian also recorded concert nr.1 by Tchaikovsky as the second CD of the Youth Orchestra of
the State of São Paulo (the first CD was recorded with Antonio Meneses). He has already been
invited to perform at the J. S. Bach festivals in Switzerland, in the 'Rising Stars' series at the
Frankische Musiktage Festival, in Germany, at the Radio France Festival, at the Delft Festival, in
Holland, at the Rockport Music Festival, in the USA, at the Campos do Jordão International
Festival, in which he was also part of the faculty, in the OSESP series in 2015 and 2016, with the
String Quartet of the City of São Paulo, with the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra, Jerusalem
Symphony Orchestra, among others. He has performed in rooms such as Jordan Hall, Liederhalle,
Bucharest Atheneum, Sala São Paulo, and in front of orchestras such as Orquestre de la Suisse
Romande (Switzerland), Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra (Germany), Ermil Nichifor
Orchestra (Romania), Brazilian Symphony Orchestra, Montevideo Philharmonic Orchestra,
Minas Gerais Philharmonic Orchestra, Petrobrás Symphony Orchestra, Paraná Symphony
Orchestra, among many others. Also recognized for his chamber sensibility, Cristian has already
had the honor of sharing the stage with artists like Antonio Meneses. Christian Poltera, Claudio
Cruz, Jennifer Stumm, Alexandra Soumm, Giovanni Gnocchi, Joseph Conyers and Semion
Gavrikov, spalla of the second violins of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra. Cristian today also
develops a duo with the Swiss violinist Esther Hoppe, winner of the International Mozart
Competition and who teaches at the Mozarteum, in Salzburg. When he moved to Boston in
2010, Cristian hosted special soirees at his home that later inspired the creation of the
Groupmuse project (www.groupmuse.com),which had a great impact on the media and won the
partnership of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. In Brazil, Cristian is the creator of the Pianosofia
project (www.pianosofia.com), which brings classical music to people's homes by a community
of musicians who frequently meet, rehearse and cultivate a genuine love for Music. The project
values chamber courses with piano, with the intention of "waking up" the pianos that are "deaf"
in people's homes, and right from the beginning it won the important support of the Sociedade
Cultura Artística. Cristian grew up in Diadema (SP), and it was then, looking for paths to follow
in his musical career, that he had his first contacts with the multi-artist Antônio Nóbrega, who
introduced him to the rich universe of traditional Brazilian music and dance. Cristian was a
student at the Brincante Institute for 4 years, taking classes with Rosane Almeida and several
popular artists, and there his learning was of great importance to his artistic development.
Cristian had the honor of making special appearances in shows by Antônio Nóbrega; and later,
in Boston, Cristian joined a quartet specializing in Brazilian music that in 2013 won the Honors
Competition at the New England Conservatory, in the “Contemporary Improvisation” category.
This award provided several presentations in the USA and the recording of a CD. With a degree
in music from the University of São Paulo, Cristian had the pianist Eduardo Monteiro as a
teacher. Previously, he studied with Elsa Klebanovsky, Marina Brandão and Cláudio Tegg. In the
United States, he became a master of piano performance under the tutelage of Wha-Kyung
Byun, with a special scholarship from the New England Conservatory in Boston. In 2014, Cristian
was accepted into the same school for the Artist Diploma, the most prestigious program in North
American conservatories, which offers, in addition to a full scholarship and sponsorship, several
solo, chamber and orchestral concerts in the United States.

Leandro Roverso
Born in São Paulo, he has dedicated himself to music from an
early age. Through his swift interest, he began to study piano
at the age of five with his godfather Guido Roverso. He began
to dedicate himself seriously to the study of piano with
Professor Hermes Jacchieri, when he entered the Free
University of Music at the age of 13, showing talent and
dedication. Then, he improved his knowledge with the pianist
and teacher Paulo Gazzaneo. Recognizing Leandro's talent,
Gazzaneo guided him to study at the Franz Liszt Higher Music
Academy (Budapest - Hungary), where he had his studies
under the guidance of pianist Gábor Éckhárdt. During this
period of his training, Leandro also participated in workshops with Cristina Ortiz, André Görög
and Franck Braley among others. After studying abroad, he improved under the guidance of
pianist and teacher Nilze Kruse, a student of Bruno Seidhoffer, Vienna. Complemented his
training with a higher course in Musical Phonographic Production at the Morumbi Anhembi
University - São Paulo. He won awards at expressive music events, such as in 2006, when he
participated in the Campos dos Goytacazes Winter Festival (RJ), where he was awarded the
Festival's outstanding student award and was invited to solo with the Academia Orchestra the
following year. In 2008 he participated in the Music of the Spheres Festival– International Music
Festival of Bragança Paulista (SP) - in which he won the “Raphael Barker” award for outstanding
student of the festival, with the vast majority of the faculty's votes, and received an invitation
to solo with the academic orchestra in the 2009 edition. In 2009, he participated in the
production “Variant Vibrations” - of the Quarteto da Amizade and Friends, with the song Statu
Vitae alongside Zoltan Paulinyi. The production of “Variant Vibrations”, led by Paulinyi,
presented a plurality of high-level Brazilian artists for the formation of a new musical context in
Brazil reflecting the diversity of contemporary music. Leandro has already performed recitals in
several countries across Europe, such as Graz, Pörtschach and Vienna - Austria; Croatia,
Germany and Hungary. In addition, he has performed in several Brazilian cities. In 2012, he was
invited to perform in Tokyo - Japan on the premises of Yamaha - Ginza, where he performed a
recital with Brazilian and Argentine works. Since the beginning of 2016, he has participated in
the PIANOSOFIA project, created by pianist Cristian Budu, who has as a goal the development
and integration of musicians, allowing the pianist to form and participate in new musical groups.
In March 2019, he was invited to be a member of the jury of the first youth piano competition
organized by the WPTA (World Piano teachers association) in San Jose - Costa Rica.
