Zigbee Alliance Looks to Create New Wireless Standard for Commercial Markets
The Zigbee Alliance has announced it is forming a team dedicated to the development and promotion of the Zigbee standard for
commercial markets. This move is in alignment with the overall vision for its Project Connected Home over IP initiative, which is
to develop and promote the adoption of a new, royalty-free connectivity standard.
The initiative also hopes to simplify development for manufacturers and increasing compatibility for customers and consumers.
Offering value across the IoT landscape, the standard is targeting devices in categories such as lighting and electrical, HVAC
controls, access control, safety and security, window coverings/shades, TVs, access points, bridges, and others.
The standard is designed to address many of the needs of the high-growth commercial buildings category, where the install base
of connected devices is expected to grow from 1.7 billion in 2020 to nearly 3 billion by 2025.
“In today’s changing world, an IP infrastructure is the necessary backbone for any network to enable companies to leverage a
digital architecture and connect their IoT-enabled devices,” says Manish Kumar, senior vice president of Schneider Electric.
“Companies will be able to easily build and add Project-based devices to their existing networks in a way that is IT-compliant with
the current architecture and management infrastructure.”

The IoT smart home industry welcomes two more national standards to be implemented on May
1, 2021
Recently, the State Administration for Market Regulation and the National Standardization Administration issued the China
National Standards Announcement No. 21 of 2020, which approved 106 national standards and 2 national standard amendments
including two IoT smart homes. These two IoT smart home standards are the "Internet of Things Smart Home User Interface
Description Method" (GB/T 39189-2020) and the "Internet of Things Smart Home Design Content and Requirements" (GB/T
39190-2020), both Recommended national standards, non-mandatory national standards.
These two standards stipulate the user interaction model, device data, data service, user interface and other requirements in the
IoT smart home system, and apply to the user interface design, implementation, and application of the IoT smart home. The
"Internet of Things Smart Home Design Content and Requirements" stipulates requirements for the structure and function of the
smart home system, system configuration and operation, etc., and is applicable to the integration of information equipment
related to home life, home service information systems and similar application scenarios.

Amazon Ring Recalls 350K Doorbells Due to Improper DIY Installs
In yet another instance where the value of professional installation by a CE pro
is important, Amazon Ring announced the recall of about 350,000 video
doorbells sold in the U.S. due to potential improper installation using the wrong
type of screw. The recall also covers 8,700 units sold in Canada.
The safety recall announced by the Consumer Product Safety Commission
says the second-generation Amazon Ring video doorbell’s “battery can
overheat when the incorrect screws are used for installation, posing fire and
burn hazards.” Ring is not actually recalling the units for replacement, but is
instead asking users to cross check the serial number of their device and then
confirm that they only used the screws that were provided.
To date, Amazon Ring has received 85 incident reports of incorrect doorbell
screws installed with 23 of those doorbells igniting, resulting in minor property
damage. The firm has received eight reports of minor burns.
Ring has an installation instruction web page set up to better describe the
installation error using long wood screws versus the ones provided by the
company.

Spy photos of suspected Apple AirTag keychain exposed
There are rumors that Apple will soon launch AirTags
Bluetooth tracker accessories that can be attached to
various items. In addition, the picture shared by Fudge
(@choco_bit) on Twitter shows that the company seems
to be interested in launching an AirTag keychain. If the
news is reliable, then this AirTag accessory with a
traditional keychain shape (metal ring + belt) is indeed
the same as a previously exposed patent.
Regrettably, since the words "designed by California
Apple, assembled in China" engraved on the side of the
keychain are easy to forge, we are temporarily unable to
distinguish the authenticity of this AirTag keychain.

Lumi releases high-precision human sensor: it can stand by for 6 years and supports
Apple HomeKit
On November 11, Lumi Lianchuang, a Xiaomi ecological
chain company, launched the Aqara advanced human
sensor at a cost of 299 yuan. The high-precision human
body sensor is also used to sense the movement of people
or animals, but it greatly improves the detection accuracy,
and can even capture that the product needs to be used
with a device with Zigbee 3.0 gateway function. The
precision human sensor meets the IPX5 waterproof rating
standard and adopts an ultra-low power design. When the
included 2 battery is low, the phone app will remind you to
replace the battery. It supports Apple HomeKit, and other
smart devices, and can achieve richer automation and
scene control.

PAGE: 6New Products & Tech. 1 Google is reportedly working on linking up Nest Audio speakers with Chromecast streaming devices Google is working on integrating its Chromecast streaming devices and Nest Audio speakers, according to a comment from a Google spokesperson in The Wall Street Journal, in a move that would give Google’s smart home and streaming gadgets a feature parity with Amazon and Apple. Being able to combine a streaming platform with a smart phone speaker makes a lot of sense for these companies. After all, customers already have all the hardware in their living room — why not repurpose those speakers to improve the sound of your Netflix movies? Plus, there’s the added bonus of inciting customers to stay within a company’s ecosystem. You’re more likely to buy a HomePod mini if it works with the Apple TV you already have. The ability to link smart speakers to streaming boxes is also something that both Apple and Amazon already offer. Apple lets customers link both HomePods and HomePod mini speakers to the Apple TV (the Apple TV 4K and the full-sized HomePod even offers additional synergy with virtual Dolby Atmos support). And Amazon lets customers both use their Echo devices to control their Fire TVs and to output audio. STid, Bosch Partner for Mobile Access Control Solution
IRVING, Texas — STid and Bosch Building Technologies announce a
partnership to offer a mobile, touchless access control solution.
The collaboration combines STid’s expertise in contactless identification
solutions with Bosch’s comprehensive access control portfolio to offer a
touchless and convenient access solution based on mobile phones.
Users can use their mobile phone as means of identification when STid Mobile
ID is integrated with the Access Management System (version 2.0 and higher)
or the Building Integration System (version 4.7 and higher) and the Access
Management Controller (AMC2) from Bosch.
To use this solution, users must install the STid mobile app on their
smartphone to receive a unique ID number. Then, when presenting their
mobile phone to the reader, the authorization rights of the ID credential within
the Access Management System or the Building Integration System will be
checked by the AMC2 before access is granted.

Cooper raises $2M to build a professional network centered on introductions
In a period of social distancing, making new professional connections feels harder than
ever. So Amsterdam-based Cooper is building a network that’s all about making and
receiving introductions.
“Everything that happens in the network is based on on the foundation of introductions,”
CEO Robert Gaal told me. “You should never get an unwanted message, and there’s no
such thing as a connection request, because it’s not necessary if you have an
introduction.”
The startup is launching internationally today and announcing that it has raised $2 million
in seed funding.
So Cooper tries to take the opposite approach, limiting users’ connections to people
they really know. To do this, it can pull data from a user’s online calendar, and it also
provides them with a personal invite code that they can share with their professional
contacts.

KKR, Rakuten to acquire most of Walmart’s stake in Japanese supermarket chain Seiyu
Walmart announced today it will sell most of its shares in Seiyu, the Japanese
supermarket chain it acquired 12 years ago, to KKR and Rakuten. The deal values
Seiyu at about $1.6 billion and means Walmart will almost completely exit its
operations in Japan.
Under the agreement, investment firm KKR will buy a 65% stake in Seiyu, while
Rakuten, Japan’s largest e-commerce company, will take a 20% stake through a
newly created subsidiary called Rakuten DX. Walmart will retain a 15% stake in
Seiyu.
After struggling with strong competition in Japan and low margins, Walmart
reportedly considered relisting Seiyu or its holding company, Walmart Japan
Holdings last year.
Rakuten is already familiar with Seiyu’s business because it formed a strategic
alliance with Walmart in 2018 that included launching an online grocery delivery
service in Japan. Called Rakuten Seiyu Netsuper, the online delivery service
includes a dedicated fulfilment center, in addition to inventory picked up from
Seiyu’s supermarkets.
