Concord Massachusetts the Start of the American Revolution

Second Leg into Boston is only 15 miles but we are Headded into Downtown Boston lets stick together.

Old North Bridge, is a historic site in Concord, Massachusetts spanning the Concord River. On April 19, 1775, the first
day of the American Revolutionary War, provincial minutemen and militia companies numbering approximately 400
engaged roughly 90 British Army troops at this location. The battle was the first instance in which American forces
advanced in formation on the British regulars, inflicted casualties, and routed their opponents. It was a pivotal moment
in the Battles of Lexington and Concord and in American history. The significance of the historic events at the North
Bridge inspired Ralph Waldo Emerson to refer to the moment as the "shot heard round the world."

                             NEWPORT DINING SUGGESTIONS

PASTA BEACH, 138 Bellevue Avenue
Two blocks South of Hotel Viking. Best italian in town.
Known for their pasta and wood fired pizza. Semi-casual.
Paid metered parking lot.

CASTLE HILL INN, 590 Ocean Drive
This was a favorite hang out of Grace Kelly. On a sunny
afternoon, grab a cocktail and one of their white lawn
chairs and watch the sunset over the bay with the sailboats
going by. As a Relais & Chateau property the formal dining
room offers a multi-course fixed price menu. Valet parking.

THE CHANLER, 117 Memorial Boulevard
Fine dining overlooking the beach and famed Cliff Walk. Conde Nast
Traveler Magazine Award winning establishment. Large parking lot.

FLUKE, 41 Bowen’s Wharf
This is on the second floor, offers the freshest most delicious fish
dishes. Fluke is owned by a husband-wife team that is very attentive
to detail and the balance of flavors. They offer a chic wine bar area
and cocktail mixologists on third floor. Open for dinner only.

BLACK PEARL, 30 Bannister’s Wharf
A Newport & New England legend for over 40years. An old sail loft
turned restaurant. Definitely try the award winning Clam Chowder.

CLARKE COOKE HOUSE, 24 Bannisters Wharf
A nautical Newport establishment and was voted one of the top three
yachty bars/restaurants in the world. Slightly dressier and collared
shirts sometimes required. Save room for the iconic “Snowball in
Hell” for dessert.

WHITE HORSE TAVERN, 26 Marlborough Street
The oldest tavern in the United States with a very
authentic cozy colonial feel and it’s rumored George
Washington hung out here.

ANNIE’S DINER, 176 Bellevue Avenue
Three short blocks South of the Hotel Viking. Great for
hearty traditional American breakfast and lunch.

**Reservations strongly recommeded for all restaurants due
to the busy Concours weekend**

*Navigating the narrow one-way streets of historic Newport and finding parking for a Classic
car could pose a challenge. To explore downtown, we might suggest, walking, taking the hotel
shuttle or ride share options such as Uber or Lyft. Most establishments outside of downtown
do have parking.

                             NEWPORT ACTIVITY SUGGESTIONS

MANSION TOUR, $20/ticket per “cottage” Enjoy the opulent
Gilded Age ballrooms, architecture, and interiors.
Recommend The Breakers and/or Marble House.

REDWOOD LIBRARY & ATHENAEUM, 50 Bellevue Avenue
One block South from hotel Viking. $10 admission. Founded
in 1747, it is the oldest community library still occupying its
original building in the United States. The original building was
designed by Peter Harrison, America’s First Architect. In 1966,
it was designated as a National Historic Landmark. Guided
tour is available to the public at 10:30am Monday through
Saturday. Confirm guided tour times and availability. Self
guided tour and materials available throughout the library.

NEWPORT ART MUSEUM, 76 Bellevue Avenue
One Block South of Hotel Viking. $15 admission. In 1864,
this building was the first commission by architect Richard
Morris Hunt who would go on to design many of the larger
mansions throughout Newport. The art museum was
founded in 1912, with Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney as one of
the original charter members. The first exhibition included
artists such as Childe Hassam & Mary Cassatt. Today it
features the permanent collection of local Newport artists
and rotates temporary exhibitions throughout the year.

SAILING, Bannisters Wharf
Newport is the sailing capital of North America and one of
the best ways to experience Newport is from the water.
There are a couple different boat styles and companies to
choose from on Bannisters Wharf which is five blocks West
downhill of Hotel Viking. Walking or taking the hotel shuttle is
recommened as public parking may be a challenge. There is
a large paid private parking lot at the Mooring Restaurant on
Sayers Wharf just south of where all the boats depart from
on Bannisters Wharf. Vessel styles:
- “Madeleine” - Schooner style sailboat. $40/ticket for 1.5
hour sail. Seats up to 40.
- “Rum Runner” - Motorboat. Approx $40 for 1.5 hours cruise. Seats up to 40.
- “America’s Cup” Racing Sailboat - A uniquely Newport opportunity is to sail aboard a real
12-meter class yacht. $98/ticket for 2-hour sail. Seats up to 12 guests.

IYRS, 449 Thames Street
At the International Yacht Restoration School one can go into the restoration workshop to
watch students repairing wooden boats. If the rear building is open, definitely check out the
restoration of “Coronet” an 1880s, 130-foot schooner sailboat.

BELLEVUE Shopping District: between Hotel Viking and Audrain Auto Museum
WHARF Shopping District: Bowen’s and Bannister’s Wharves
