The 20th Nairobi International Education Fair 2018
Nairobi International Education Fair
Message From
         The EVENT
        ORGANISERS

A very warm welcome to all exhibitors and visitors who have travelled from various parts of this country
and elsewhere in the world to participate and/or visit this 20th Nairobi international Education Fair (NIEF)
      in Nairobi, Kenya.

This Fair provides a one-stop forum for local and international colleges and universities to engage students,
school leavers, teachers and parents on careers and training programmes being offered by these institutions.
Other young persons, including the working class people wishing to advance their Education, will also benefit
from this Fair.

NIEF is the mother of the Regional and Career Fairs organized in various regions of this country. We have just
completed a successful Fair in Machakos. After this Fair, we will be headed to Mombasa. Others to follow will
be Eldoret, Kakamega, Kisii, Kisumu, Meru, Nakuru and Nyeri.

The 47 counties, which were recently created by Kenya’s new constitution, are new enclaves of social and
economic development in this country. The devolved governance system has moved many people with good
disposable incomes to the counties attracting impressive business activities. As a result of this, many corporate
firms and institutions have also realigned their operations and businesses to this new dispensation.

These Regional Education and Career Fairs assist the local and international colleges and universities to have
structured engagement with students, teachers, parents and the general public in those areas for the benefit
of all parties.

The government, the people of Kenya and many other interested organizations are deeply disturbed by the
serious unemployment in this country. One of the major causes is lack of work and entrepreneurial skills among
job seekers. The new focus now is to promote the provision of those skills. At these Fairs we are targeting
Kenyans of all ages and levels of Education who desire to be trained for work and entrepreneurial skills, taking
into consideration their interests, abilities and talents.

Training institutions ranging from the leading international universities and colleges, local public and private
universities and colleges and TVET public and private colleges as well as vocational training centres and youth
polytechnics offering recognized career courses will be at hand to guide all those students, school leavers and
other young Kenyans who require training and acquisition of work and entrepreneurial skills.

The events will be organized for the next several years until all young Kenyans would have been properly
sensitized on the need not only to be educated but more importantly to acquire the skills that are required by
their prospective employers.

Once again we thank you for choosing to do business with us. We will continuously strive to be relevant to your
future business plans in the Education sector in Kenya.

Team Leader & CEO

BRITISH COUNCIL

T he British Council was founded to create a friendly knowledge and understanding between the people of
the UK and the wider world. We call this work cultural relations.

We work in over 100 countries, connecting millions of people through programmes and services in English, the
Arts, Education and Society. We believe these are the most effective means of engaging with others, and we
have been doing this work since 1934.

Our work in English aims to bring high quality language materials to every learner and teacher who wants them.
We offer over three million UK examinations worldwide, helping people gain access to trusted qualifications to
support their career and study prospects.

IELTS is the world’s most popular English language test for higher education and global migration. Thousands
of Kenyans benefit from the opportunities IELTS gives to study and work in the UK, USA, Australia, Canada and
elsewhere. Many take advantage of our IELTS preparation courses.

We work with awarding organisations to offer UK school exams (International GCSEs, IGCSEs, O levels, AS levels
and A levels) both within schools and to independent private candidates.

We administer a large number of international Professional exams on behalf of a variety of major UK
examining bodies including ACCA, CIPS, CIMA etc. as well as UK universities. Candidates can take their exams
in our examination centre in Nairobi where British Council is trusted to deliver high quality standards of exam
administration, confidentiality and security of examination papers and results.

Supporting career employability and career development, our Professional Skills Training centre combines UK
methodology and content adapted to the Kenyan context. Public and organisation – specific workshops are
facilitated by expert trainers.

Our work in Education and Society helps transform national education systems, builds more inclusive and
open societies and increases young people’s opportunities. We connect the UK and Kenya school sectors to
enrich education, promote global citizenship and build international trust and understanding. We partner with
civil society organisations, government ministries and institutions in the UK and Kenya to deliver high quality
programmes. We work in areas such as youth and community engagement, social entrepreneurship, equal
opportunity and diversity, sport, and active citizenship.

The British Council Arts team works with the best of British creative talent to develop innovative collaborations
with artists and cultural institutions. In Kenya we focus on supporting the creative industries through skills
development for entrepreneurs and artists. Through this we ensure that culture in its broadest sense plays a
vital role in connecting with and understanding each other.

The British Council builds links between UK people and institutions and those around the world, helping to
create trust and lay foundations for prosperity and security.

ECL provides the same services in the Medical sector through its annual Kenya Medical Directory and its online

The company’s flagship project in the division Fairs is The Nairobi International Education Fair (NIEF) which
is the most informative and comprehensive Education and Careers Fair of its kind in Africa. Now entering the
20th edition, it continues to be the most popular delivering rich information on institutions of higher learning
from across the globe. The Fair is well positioned as it takes place soon after the Kenya Certificate of Secondary
Education results and when students studying IGCSE/IB are making their University/College selection.

The main purpose of those events is to bring together universities, colleges and other relevant institutions as
well as students, school leavers, teachers and parents in one venue to engage and benefit from each other.

This programme, going under theme Focusing Work and Entrepreneurship Skills Training, is a new effort, a
new dawn which is targeting Kenyan of all ages and level of education who desire to be trained for work or
entrepreneurial skills, taking into consideration their interests, abilities and talents.

Training institutions ranging from the leading International Universities and Colleges, Local Public and Private
Universities and Colleges, TVET Public and Private Colleges as well as Vocational Training Centres and Youth
Polytechnics offering recognized career courses will be at hand to guide all students, school leavers and other
young Kenyans who require training and acquisition of work and entrepreneurial skills.

This is the focus of the government and all local and international stakeholders who are concerned with Kenya’s
serious unemployment problems which has largely been caused by lack of work and entrepreneurial skills which
are required in industry.

The events will be organized for the next several years until all young Kenyans would have been properly
sensitized on the need not only to be educated but more importantly to acquire the skills that are required by
their prospective employers or start their own businesses.
