music, ice cream, and homemade goodies! A relaxing, cool
afternoon for our entire church family to enjoy is coming up!
Come enjoy our annual Ice Cream and Dessert Bash and sample
many flavors of churned ice cream and wonderful desserts.
Sandwiches and fruits will also be served. Sit back, tap your toes
and listen to the tunes of Johnny & Sharon Tanner with friends!
We invite kids and their parents to come paint kindness rocks together to distribute in
public areas throughout the community. These rocks are labeled with inspiring words or
messages to help brighten up someone’s day. Start thinking of creative art and encouraging
words to put on your rock!

We hope you will be a part of this fun-filled afternoon. Sign up on the sheets in The
Commons or in your Sunday School class if you want to provide a treat. If not, just bring
yourself and unwind with friends and family!

                                           On-Line Calendar
Don’t forget about our on-line calendar! This is an additional way to
keep our members informed as to just what’s happening at Central.
This calendar will list not only all upcoming events, but will indicate
when each room in our facility is being used. This will allow you to
better plan meetings by letting you see which rooms are available on a
given date and time. In addition, you will be able to set up reminders
for upcoming events and share those events with others. There’s even a
way to subscribe to the calendar and have all the events appear on your smartphone!

To access this new tool, go to our website, centralmethodist.net, and select “Church
Calendar” at the top of the menu. Selecting that option will redirect you to the calendar.

Even with this great new tool, we still ask that you contact your Staff Liaison to schedule
any events, but our new calendar will allow for a greater understanding of all that is
happening at the church.
Preacher: Rev. J. Derrick Cattenhead
                               Scripture: Ephesians 3:14-21
                                       Title: Far More

For more information about The Well, contact Pete Ludlow at pludlow@centralmethodist.net.
Starting at 9:00 a.m. in the Davis Christian Life Center

                             Ministry Opportunity Update:
As of now, we have two people who are willing to serve as Sunday School Resource
Coordinators. Thank you to Ellen Knight and Phyllis Lee!

Ministry Opportunity: Elementary Class Teacher Advisors
As Central’s Children’s Ministry Team and Director, Brandie Love, start to rebuild our
Children’s Teaching Teams, we would love to partner each team with an experienced
teacher to provide advice and training. This person would not necessarily teach each
Sunday, but would confer with their age group team, answer questions, demonstrate
teaching a lesson, and advise on room setup. We would like an advisor for each
Elementary Sunday School Class. If you are an experienced teacher, perhaps retired, and
are willing to share your experience, spiritual gifts, and training with our Sunday School
teachers, please contact Brandie Love (blove@centralmethodist.net) and let her know what
age group you would like to join. This is a wonderful way to nurture the faith of our
children and be a part of a small Team.

                            Request from Central’s Archivists
The Sesquicentennial Committee is asking church members to submit any items,
publications, etc. pertaining to Central United Methodist Church for inclusion in the
church achives in the Schofield Library. If at all possible, a copy will be made of any
material that is to be returned. You may leave these items in the church office.

                                  Mascot Mania Continues
We have had so much fun sorting through all of the submissions sent to us in our Mascot
contest! In fact, there were so many great suggestions that the staff had to choose the top
5 instead of just the top 3! So now it’s your turn to vote for your favorite. During the
week of July 25 - July 31, you will have the opportunity to vote on which of the following
suggestions you like the best and we will reveal the winner at our Sesquicentennial
celebration on Sunday, October 3.

Here are our top 5 suggestions:

(1) The Central Saints (2) Wesley the Wonder Dog (3) The Central Colts
(4) The Central Stars (5) Carl the Camel

During the week of July 25 - July 31, please select your favorite by either going to our
website (centralmethodist.net) to cast your vote or by placing a slip in the ballot box located
in either The Commons or The Well.

Nursery, Children & Youth Ministries

A Message from Our Nurseries & Children’s Church
If your child is not yet in 1st grade, we ask that you register them for Sunday School and
Children’s Church using the Realm Registration event. If you have trouble registering,
please contact Shay Justice (sjustice@centralmethodist.net) or Catherine Lucius
(clucius@centralmethodist.net) and they will be glad to help you! Children in 1st grade and
older no longer need to register for Sunday School.

Please note that Nursery, Children’s Church, and 5K and younger Sunday School
Classrooms will be moved to rooms 164, 165, and Spears Fellowship Hall on Sunday July
25 due to updates being made to the Nursery Hall. We will be back to our regular rooms
on Sunday, August 1. Thank you for understanding!

                               Rising 6th & 7th Graders
                                Back to School Swim Party
                           Saturday, July 31, 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM
                                      The Slice Home
Can you believe it’s almost time to head back to school? Rising 6th & 7th graders will be
celebrating the beginning of the school year with a swim party at the Slice home on Satur-
day, July 31. For further information, directions, and/or questions, please contact Brandie
Love (blove@centralmethodist.net).

                                   Promotion Sunday
                                    Sunday, August 1st
We did not get to have a formal Promotion Sunday in 2020, so the Children’s
Ministry team and I are delighted to be able to celebrate this day in the lives of our
children! Promotion Sunday will take place during the Sunday School hour on Sunday,
August 1st, and will begin in the Children’s Assembly Room. There will be no Sunday
school on Promotion Sunday. We will use this time to share our new curriculum and enjoy
fellowship with each other. This year all rising Kindergarteners through rising 5th graders
will move to a new Sunday School room!

                               Blessing of the Bookbags
                                      Sunday, August 1st
We will hold our Blessing of the Bookbags during all three worship services Sunday,
August 1st. All of our students will be invited to bring their bookbags to the altar for a
special blessing. As in years past, we are asking that you consider purchasing an additional
bookbag and/or school supplies to be donated to local children. Our donations this year
will go to our Briggs Buddies (Briggs Elementary is Central’s partner school) and to several
Hispanic families in the Florence area that we have learned are in need of assistance.

Collection boxes are available in The Well and in The Commons for those of you who
may not have school-aged children but would like to be a part of this mission opportunity.
The schools in FSD1 furnish their students and parents with lists of needed materials for
each grade level, and stores such as Target and Wal-Mart usually have those lists posted in
their school supplies sections.

                                      Youth Update
                          Remember: No UMYF until August!
We will be having dinner together this Wednesday night, July 28th, followed by a Bible
study from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM. Bring a friend!

As we gear up for the school year, please remember that Central will be moving into a
middle school system in keeping with the organization of FSD1. This means that UMYF
(our Sunday Evening program) and Youth Sunday School will be for Middle and High
School students! Students entering into the 6th-12th grades are welcomed and encouraged
to attend these Youth programs! We are looking forward to seeing you there!
