Notice of Contract Opportunity
Invitation for Bids (IFB)
DFW-2021-025 Woodland Thinning and Firebreaks at the Mashpee Pine Barrens
WMA, Mashpee, MA

Project Summary
The Massachusetts Division of Fisheries and Wildlife (MassWildlife) is soliciting bids from Contractors to
conduct important woodland thinning and fire break work during Fiscal Year 2021 on approximately 30
acres at the Mashpee Pine Barrens Wildlife Management Area (WMA) located in Mashpee
Massachusetts. This work will provide important woody fuel reduction and facilitate safe and effective
use of prescribed fire within the pine barrens.
The Base Bid will consist of whole tree felling and removal within: 1) a series of 10 ft (interior) fire
breaks; 2) a series of 20 ft (exterior) fire breaks; 3) an 80 foot wide buffer strip located parallel and
interior to the 20 ft (exterior) fire breaks, and 4) removal of all woody debris from the landing area on
DeGrass Road at the conclusion of the operation, grading of the landing area, and installation of large
cull logs, large rocks, or other material approved by MassWildlife to outline a small 3-4 vehicle parking
area. The Base Bid includes a total of approximately 22.5 acres. All trees within the fire breaks and
designated trees within the buffer strip will be cut to within 2 inches of the ground unless otherwise
specified by MassWildlife. All woody material from cut trees is to be staged at the landing and removed
from the site upon completion of the work, including any/all woody debris and chips generated at the
landing location.
Alternate number 1 will consist of whole tree felling and removal within an approximately 7.5 acre
wooded area adjacent to a portion of the 20 ft (exterior) fire breaks. All designated trees within this
wooded area will be cut to within 2 inches of the ground unless otherwise specified by MassWildlife. All
woody material from cut trees is to be staged at the landing and removed from the site upon
completion of the work, including any/all woody debris and chips generated at the landing location.

The Estimated Project cost is $60,000.00.
