links on 100 acres of their
            Waiohiki property, which
              became known as the
             Waiohiki Links and later
            as the Napier Golf Links.
              Both Te Roera and
              Kurupo were in the
            Hawke's Bay team at a
          tournament at Gisborne in
                    1899.
             In 1932, Kurupo was

She first became familiar with Maori Golf through the involvement of
her parents who traversed the courses throughout South Waikato
   and King Country townships.

From the local settings to regional representation; it wasn’t long
before Rovina joined in the annual New Zealand Maori Golf

years making a significant contribution to the game.

Harry Ngatai
T’was for a love of the game and for the people…

His journey began back in the sixties, that was when Harry and hi
wife Nari began playing golf. Harry recalls that it wasn’t long
before they were involved in the promoting the game and helping
to support the regional organisation, which soon led to him being
elected as the Rotorua Maori Golfer’s Club President. It was the
beginning of a long partnership.

In 1971, Harry was officially appointed Tournament Secretary for
the National Maori Golf Tournament serving golf for almost two
decades. Those were the good old days of 300-400 players. An
eye for detail Harry was meticulous in his dealings and
communication with all.

Harry was admired by many with his immaculate dress and
infectious smile; which emulated the way he did the business. He
retired from the role of Tournament Secretary in 1986. Harry is a
current life member of NZMGA.
