ENDORSEMENTS
Thank you so much to SATS, my excellent lecturers and supervisors. It has been an
absolute privilege studying through SATS and I have learnt so much more than just
the study material given to me. It has been an incredible journey and I am left much
richer because of it.
Leighann Fiford

I don’t know if the students thank you as often as they are supposed to - your service
at SATS is wonderful and I thoroughly enjoy the study experience you offer. Things are
done in the spirit of excellence! So to you and those around you, I pray that God will
bless you in this day and I thank you for your friendly support and hard work!
Marcel van Niekerk

I would like to express my sincere gratitude and appreciation for your continuous
support, feedback and advice during my completion of this course. I value your input
and highly regard your closing comments with respect to my final assignment.
Charmaine Erasmus

The MySATS is perfect. It’s very user-friendly and it makes the submission of
assignments very easy. To write one’s exams there is also a very convenient way to
study. Thank you.
Stiaan van Niewenhuizen

THANK YOU for your excellent service every term! It is a pleasure to work with you.
Estelle Crafford.

I have been studying with SATS for three years now and it has been the best, most

Message from the Principal: Change and no Change

This will be my last Message from the Principal, before I retire at the
end of April 2018. In that sense, change is imminent. As early as
two years ago, the Board of Directors began to plan for this change
by drafting a very carefully thought-through succession plan. They
were deeply aware of the dangers that could have arisen if the
wrong Principal took over. History is punctuated with examples of
institutions whose direction, and even ethos, has changed, often
with disastrous consequences, when a new Principal is appointed.
They were determined that all that SATS stands for would not change.

The natural successor is Dr Kevin Smith, the current Head of Academics, who has
worked here since 2004. He has the necessary qualities and skills for this critically
important role and I have absolutely no doubt that he will successfully lead the
seminary into the next phase of its amazing growth. He is unswervingly committed
to our foundational principles, namely, Bible-based, Christ-centred and Spirit-led; the
Bible will remain “the only written revelation of and from God and that it is therefore
all we need for faith and life”.1 The same can be said of Dr Johannes Malherbe, who
will be promoted from Head of Research to Head of Academics. In this sense, there
will be no change.

However, as SATS moves into a new phase of its history, change is not only inevitable,
but necessary, as God unfolds His plan for our growth and development. There will
be new and exciting ideas to ensure that we remain at the cutting-edge of theological
education and maintain our commitment to quality and service-delivery, but in the
midst of these changes, there will be no change in our determination to teach the truth
of the Word of God in an uncompromising way.

So, change and no change. If you are considering enrolling at SATS, you can be
assured that your studies with us will be based on the truth of the Scriptures, and will
thoroughly equip you for life and ministry. We look forward to receiving your application.

Dr Reuben van Rensburg

MISSION
Our mission is to provide Biblical, Christocentric distance education and training to
Christians, and leaders in particular, within their local church environment, to equip
them to be Holy Spirit empowered members of God’s household.

Purpose:

 Within this context we understand that our purpose is to:
 Provide lifelong learning opportunities in theological church-related and ministry
studies of a sound academic standard and practical application.
 Provide relevant and meaningful student support through student counselling,
tutors, mentors and contact session facilities.
 Provide students with affordable distance tuition via pedagogically sound
and technologically up-to-date and appropriate delivery methodologies and
  mechanisms.
 Foster a culture of student accountability and responsibility for the learning
process within the context of local church and community.
 Work proactively and consistently towards the fulfilment of national policy objectives
  for social transformation by:
 Developing policy frameworks that do not prejudice any potential students on
the grounds of age, race or gender.
 Soliciting bursary funds for members of previously disadvantaged communities
and others who cannot afford to study at a tertiary level.
 Develop our academic staff capability through the maintenance of an intellectual
culture and an ongoing commitment to academic development, training and
  education of our faculty.
 Develop increased levels of competence and job satisfaction of all staff through
periodic assessment, personal development, training programmes and promotion
  from within, where possible.
 Facilitate the career development of church and other Christian workers by
providing higher education programmes that are academically acceptable to the
broad Christian community and relevant to ministry requirements.
 Undertake research to advance knowledge in the fields of Christian theology and
  ministry.
 Contribute to the South African, African and international higher education
community through discourse, interaction, creative partnerships, the hosting of
  conferences and publication of articles.
 Contribute meaningfully to the development of South African society by:
 Aiding the restoration of the moral and ethical fibre of society by inculcating
Biblical values and principles through our range of courses and by providing
bursaries, within the limitations of available funds, to indigent students.
 Addressing societal issues at both a preventative and a counselling level
through the development of specific courses.
 Providing contextual education and training with respect to a range of issues
      facing Christian leaders.
                                           4
S T A T E M E N T O F F A IT H
The Trinity. We believe in one God, eternally existing in three persons – Father Son
and Holy Spirit.

The Father. We believe that God the Father is a spiritual being, omnipotent, omniscient,
holy, righteous, loving and infinitely good; having life in Himself and giving life to all
things.

The Son. We believe that Jesus Christ is true God and true man, the only begotten of
the Father.
We believe in the bodily resurrection of the Lord Jesus, in His ascension into Heaven,
in His present life as our High Priest and Advocate and in His personal return.

The Holy Spirit. We believe in the supernatural manifestation of the Holy Spirit in
and through the life of the believer; in His empowering and equipping for service and
ministry and in His definite, yet progressive work of sanctification, commencing at the
time of the new birth and continuing until the consummation of Salvation.

Sin And Salvation. We believe that God created man in His own image; that man
sinned and thereby incurred the penalty of death, physical and spiritual; that all human
beings inherit a sinful nature.
We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ died for our sins as a substitutionary sacrifice
and that all who believe and trust in Him are justified on the grounds of His shed
blood.
We believe that all who repent of their sin, receive Jesus Christ by faith as Saviour and
confess Him as Lord are born again of the Holy Spirit and thereby become children
of God.
We believe in the resurrection of both the just and the unjust and in the eternal
blessedness of the children of God.

Scripture. We believe in the scriptures of the Old and New Testaments in their original
writing as fully inspired of God and accept them as the supreme and final authority
for faith and life.

The Church. We believe that the one true church is the whole company of those
who have been redeemed by Jesus Christ and regenerated by the Holy Spirit; that
the new birth and personal confession of Christ are therefore essentials of church
membership and that the church on earth is the organism through which God says and
does what He desires for His world.
We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ appointed two ordinances – Baptism and the
Lord’s Supper – to be observed as acts of obedience and as perpetual witnesses to
the cardinal facts of the Christian faith.

SATS stands on the triune doctrinal foundation of:

 The unique authority of the Word of God the Father. We believe that the Bible is
the only written revelation of and from God and that it is therefore all we need for
  faith and life.
 The lordship and centrality of Jesus Christ. We believe that Jesus Christ is God
the Son and the full revelation of the Godhead to mankind. He is head of the
church and Lord of our lives. As a result, we are to base our doctrine and practice
on what He said and did.
 The ministry of the Holy Spirit. We believe that we are to trust and obey God the
Holy Spirit and that we are to embrace all that the Scriptures reveal of Him and
  His ministry.

                                              P H IL O S O P H Y
We see our role as providing lifelong learning1 opportunities in theological and
practical, church-related studies of a sound academic standard. We believe that
the responsibility for the learning process should be placed upon the student within
the context of the local church. We see our role as a provider of reasonably priced,
academically sound Christocentric, theological distance learning tuition, via the latest
course delivery technologies.

                                                OVERSIGHT
The South African Theological Seminary falls under the spiritual oversight of the Elders
of The Village Church, which was established by Rosebank Union Church in 1986.
The church is broadly Evangelical with an emphasis on the absolute authority of the
Scriptures, the practical lordship of Jesus Christ and the ministry of the Holy Spirit.

Board of Directors
Messrs. Caldas, Ironside, Timberlake, Tapson, du Plessis, Mesdames. Mason and
Chamberlain, Pastor Spence and Drs. van Rensburg and Smith. The Board meets
regularly, ensuring good governance. Under their leadership the seminary has
successfully maintained its policy of being debt-free since its inception.

Academic Advisory Board
We also have an Academic Advisory Board consisting of a number of senior academics
who are specialists in their fields.

The following programmes are accredited by the Council on Higher Education (CHE),
the Education and Training Quality Assurer (ETQA) of the South African Qualifications
Authority (SAQA) and are registered by the Department of Higher Education (registration
number 2001/HE08/005):

 Higher Certificate in Christian Counselling
 Higher Certificate in Christian Life
 Bachelor of Theology
 Bachelor of Theology Honours
 Master of Theology
 Doctor of Philosophy in Theology

We are registered as a Section 21 company (Reg. no. 2002/005184/08), a PBO
(18/11/13/2403) and an NPO (033-343-NPO).

We are also a founder member of the National Association of Distance Education
Organisations in South Africa (NADEOSA) and we are a member of the Association of
Private Providers of Education, Training and Development (APPETD), the South African
Institute for Distance Education (SAIDE), the International Council for Evangelical
Theological Education (ICETE), the International Council for Higher Education (ICHE),
the CHEA International Quality Group (CIQG) and the World Evangelical Theological
Institute Association (WETIA).

Our accreditation and Department of Education registration provide assurance that the
quality of our programmes is of the highest standard. Our programmes are therefore
nationally and internationally comparable and the credits earned with us are truly
“portable”, i.e. they can be transferred to other accredited, registered institutions.
The increasing number of international students confirms the acceptability of our
programmes around the world.

Recently our M.Th. and Ph.D. programmes were submitted to two of the most frequently
used and highly recommended evaluators in the USA, namely the International
Education Research Foundation, Inc. (www.ierf.org) and the American Association
of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers’ International Education Services
(http://ies.aacrao.org), and both confirmed that these degrees represent attainment
of a level of education comparable to the equivalent degrees from a regionally
accredited university in the United States. Our degrees are also recognised by the
German website www.anabin.kmk.org which provides information about the evaluation
of foreign qualifications, the Brazilian and Argentinian governments, while the IQAS
(International Qualification Assessment Service) in Alberta, Canada, an independent,
secular assessment service used by many Canadian universities to establish the
quality of foreign qualifications, has evaluated the SATS B.Th. as the local equivalent
of a “three year Bachelor’s degree with a focus in theology”.

SATS was the first institution in the world to receive the Certificate of Financial
Operational Effectiveness and Accountability awarded by the International Council on
Higher Education (ICHE).

To achieve this, we were subjected to a panel visit by a team of financial experts, who
carefully scrutinised our financial systems and reviewed all documented accounting,
financial and budgeting policies and procedures, and compared them to international
best practice.

Those enrolling or partnering with SATS, can therefore be assured of our financial
integrity and exemplary practice.

organisations, because we know there is significant value in such collaboration.
We invest time in developing the relationship; as a result, we have forged sound
partnerships in many parts of the world.

We have found that those seeking a partner relationship with SATS have many different
requirements and we, because of our desire to contribute to the Kingdom, try to shape
the agreements around what the partners each require.

Our partnerships range from small, local groups to larger international groups. In
all cases, the partnership is formalised through the signing of a Memorandum of
Understanding. In all cases the partner organisation receives a generous discount.

Some examples of the different kinds of partnerships are listed below:

1. In certain countries, especially in South America and parts of Europe, government
accreditation for theological institutions is very difficult or even non-existent and
partnering with SATS ensures their students get an accredited degree.
2. A whole denomination/movement could train all its leaders through SATS.
3. Many institutions do not have graduate/postgraduate programmes but want their
students to continue their studies after graduating with a Bachelor’s degree.
4. A group of people from one church could enrol for a tertiary programme and would
receive a discount on the fees paid.

The official language used at the Seminary is English, but from 2012 we also began to
offer our programmes in French. (See our separate French Prospectus.)

• As the Seminary grows, the materials may be translated into other languages.
• Until the infrastructure becomes available to service additional languages,
assignments and examinations will be written in English or French. However, the
many students who are not first language English speakers are graded in a fair and
  equitable manner.
• Students who wish to discuss any aspects pertaining to the usage of language,
have the right to approach the Academic Head.
• It is strongly recommended that Masters and Doctoral students have a good grasp
of the English language. The Admissions Committee may advise the candidate to
study at a university best suited for the individual should his/her level of English be
  below average.

If you have already studied elsewhere or if you have appropriate ministry experience,
you will likely qualify for exemption from certain courses on the basis of Recognition of
Prior Learning (RPL), which will reduce the total cost and duration of your educational
programme. You will be charged at a nominal rate for RPL granted on the basis of
informal or non-formal learning. Informal learning refers to life and ministry experience,
while non-formal learning denotes study at a non-accredited programme. There is no
charge for credits transferred from accredited institutions.

As soon as we receive your Application Form, we shall evaluate your existing
qualifications and experience, and advise you of the exemptions or credits that we are
able to grant. You may be required to submit a portfolio of evidence in support of your
application for RPL. We will then advise you how to proceed. These evaluations are
valid for a period of three months.

ASSESSMENT

1. Undergraduate Programmes
Unless otherwise indicated, the pass mark for all assessment tasks is 50 per cent
and a distinction is 80 per cent or above. For essay assignments, no re-submissions
are allowed. If you score below 50 per cent for a particular assignment, the grade
you received counts towards your overall grade for the course. To pass the course,
you must submit all the required assignments, achieve a grade of at least 40 per
cent for the examination and achieve an overall grade of 50 per cent or above.

2. Postgraduate Programmes
A detailed policy for assessment of the Masters and Doctoral programmes is
available from the Registrar of Postgraduate Studies, on request.

CREDIT ACCUMULATION AND QUALIFICATION
Each undergraduate course is worth 12 credits, which will accrue towards your
qualification. When you complete your studies, whether or not you have earned a
qualification, you will be issued with a transcript detailing all your courses and the
credits you have earned.

You need to accumulate 120 credits to be awarded a qualification at Higher Certificate
level and 360 credits for a Bachelor of Theology. The Bachelor of Theology Honours
requires 120 credits above a Bachelor’s degree. An additional 180 credits are needed
to obtain the Masters degree (i.e., 660 credits in total), and a further 360 credits for
the Doctor of Philosophy degree. For all programmes (except the Ph.D.), you must have
at least 120 credits at the exit level or above. In the Ph.D., you need at least 360
credits at the exit level.

PROGRESSION
Once you have met all the requirements for your chosen qualification, you will be
awarded the qualification.

We expect that all our students will conduct all their academic affairs associated
with the Seminary in a way which befits Christ’s disciples. Plagiarism, for example, is
unacceptable, as is the copying of another student’s work, or making any defamatory
remarks about the Seminary or its staff. For the full policy, please refer to the Student
Handbook.

Student Registration Contract
Please note that when you sign the Application Form, you agree to abide by the
policies of the Seminary. Please refer to the Student Handbook for more details.

Student Complaints and Grievances
Should you have reason to query the way in which the assessment of your assignments
or examinations has been conducted, or if you wish to lay a complaint against a staff
member, or if you have a grievance about any other matter, the procedures for doing
so are set out in the Student Handbook.

                      C UR R I C UL UM D E S IGN
When the Seminary was founded, instead of the traditional
curriculum design, we researched what Christians at both
leadership and non-leadership levels need to know and be
able to do in their life and ministry. We used this analysis
to develop a series of learning outcomes from which we
developed the curriculum. In other words, the courses you
study all yield essential knowledge and skills.

Since then we have consistently researched the changing
landscape of theology and its application. We have come to realise that leaders and
pastors need to be kept abreast of changes and their application.

Our aim is to make studying as pleasant as possible for you without compromising
standards and to provide relevant, practical equipping.

Minimum study requirements: You are required to complete 48 credits of study
every 12 months (commencing with date of enrolment).

We understand that it is not easy to study in isolation. The good news is that we have
created a student support structure which serves the needs of our students. It is
important for students to know what is expected from them, and also what services
they can expect from SATS.

MySats Support
If you have any questions relating to the MySats platform, Ann Steyn
is available to assist you. Contact her at anns@sats.edu.za or call her

Enrolments’ Officer
Before you enrol you are welcome to contact our efficient Enrolments’
Officer, Sharon Eagle, who will assist you with any questions you may
have about our courses, Recognition of Prior Learning, fees, etc. She
will also be the first to see your application form when you enrol.

Student Counsellor
To ensure that every student at SATS has the counselling support
from an appropriately qualified person, we provide the services of a
counsellor, Bev van Rensburg, who is available to discuss any personal
issues you may be experiencing. Email bev@sats.edu.za or phone her
on 011 234-4440.

Reduced Fee Bursaries
We offer a limited number of reduced fee bursaries for those who simply cannot afford
to study. A special bursary fund exists for students from the Eastern Cape. To apply
please email bursaries@sats.edu.za. Applications will be considered three times per
annum, namely 15 June, 15 Sept and 15 Dec.

Help Desk
Our Helpdesk is open from 07h00 – 16h00 during the week. Dial 011
022-4440 to discuss your future learning options and seek advice from
Grace Sikhosana, a trained and very experienced administrator. Her
email address is grace@sats.edu.za.

Mentoring Programme
Our research shows that students who have mentor support in place
generally work through their studies faster and attest to a more
meaningful and successful learning experience. The SATS staff can
regularly contact students, motivating and encouraging them to
persevere with their studies, but it is the local, personal friend or
pastor who will fulfil the role of personal support. Erika Kelbrick, who
also looks after Student Liaison, heads up this programme. Contact

Readers
Due to the fact that some theological textbooks are difficult to find and extremely
expensive, the South African Theological Seminary provides Readers, free of charge
for your convenience in almost all undergraduate programmes, except the Higher
Certificate in Christian Counselling. These Readers include selected extracts from the
recommended books, as well as a selection of other relevant documents which we are
sure will assist you as you complete each assignment. They are excellent resources
and further teaching aids for pastors to continue to refer to long after their studies
have been completed. So that we do not infringe any copyright laws, we have signed
a contract with the Dramatic, Artistic and Literary Rights Organisation (DALRO), the
terms of which enable us to include these extracts in the Readers. You may purchase
and use text books, in addition to the Readers, if you prefer to do so.

Library
Our library contains an impressive collection of books, journals and
e-books. In addition, we have nearly 200,000 books in our online library.
You are welcome to browse the wide range of outstanding titles to
assist you in your research, via our online catalogue. For postgraduate
students who cannot access our physical holdings in person, the
librarian, Tawanda, will assist you by sending you digital copies of your
requested research extracts. You will also be able to access all the
theological journals online. Contact library@sats.edu.za.

The high point of a student’s many years of study is the graduation ceremony, and
even though the South African Theological Seminary is a distance learning institution,
we still host an annual graduation ceremony. Each year we carefully select a speaker
to speak on a topic that will inspire our graduands to effectively implement their
learning in some form, either through ongoing or first time ministry.

We encourage family members to join our graduands for the ceremony, as this is a day
of great celebration; they have spent many years sacrificing their time in completing
their studies and this is the occasion to recognise their achievement.

We also encourage our students to continue their relationship with SATS after they
have graduated, either as assessors, mentors or volunteers working with the staff of
the Seminary. We invite all our graduates to join the SATS Alumni Association which
facilitates this on-going relationship. Contact: erika@sats.edu.za.

Students who have completed all their courses by January 2018 are eligible to
graduate on 14 April 2018. Contact: jane@sats.edu.za.

PRE-TERTIARY COURSES

The way to live and lead

Crossroads is a pre-tertiary programme and resource tool to
help local churches run an in-house discipleship and leadership
training programme. Crossroads provides the church with
the material it needs to set up and run either Crossroads 1
(Discipleship) or Crossroads 2 (Leadership), or both. The material
comprises ready-to-use PowerPoint lessons, comprehensive notes,
student handouts, marketing materials, administration forms for
enrolment, record-keeping and much more. It is available in English and Afrikaans.

In 2012 the Seminary conducted a survey amongst over 4000 churchgoers to establish
the state of Biblical literacy of church members in South Africa. The results showed
that there is a dire need for Bible-based and Christ-centred teaching in our churches,
which helps Christians to make good, godly decisions based on God’s instructions
through His Word. We believe through the Crossroads programme we can begin to
address this need.

The material is divided into two tracks. The first is focused on “living by the book” and
the second teaches “leading by the book”. Students receive a certificate of completion
after the first track and can then decide whether to continue with the second. Each
track is designed to run for a year.

For each completed track, students earn 24 credits towards either the SATS’ Higher
Certificate in Christian Life or the Bachelor of theology. (Please note there is an
administrative fee of R2996 when using these credits towards a higher qualification).

CROSSROADS Track 1 CROSSROADS Track 2

 • Jesus: His life and legacy • Leading God’s way
 • Spiritual gifts: use and abuse • Mining God’s treasures

PRE-TERTIARY COURSES
Methods of delivery
There are two different methods of delivery for this programme:
1. The church-based option, which provides complete study materials for the group
   leader and for each student.
2. The online option which provides the same material for individuals to study in their
own time and location, via the Internet on the MySATS site.

1. The church-based option
We provide the church with the material
it needs to set up and run a quality
training programme. The church enrols
students and purchases a student
resource for each student enrolled.
Each student receives a CD with full-text
course notes and lesson summaries
which require completion by the student.
The church teaches the programme and
SATS issues a certificate of completion
for each student. The group meets weekly for about two hours, for 30 weeks each
year. However, churches can choose to meet more or less frequently and so complete
the material as it suits them.

2. Crossroads Online
MySats, our online learning platform, provides the learning environment for this
Crossroads initiative, which allows individuals to enrol and complete this programme
online. This means you can work on your own, at your own pace, within the structure of
each term. Access to MySats can be on your laptop or your mobile device wherever you
are and wherever you have connectivity to the internet. All coursework and resources
are provided online. There are three courses per term and three terms per year.

For more information about these options
                 please contact Jill at +27 11 234 4440

MySats is the learning environment or “virtual classroom”
where our students study. It is the central hub of the
Seminary and the system which makes online distance
learning possible for all our students, wherever they live
in the world.

MySats provides access to all your study materials, allows
you to communicate with your course tutor as well as the
other students studying the same course.

When you enrol at SATS you receive your account credentials for MySats which provide
access to the learning environment where you will find your courses, readers, tutors,
communication fora with other students, assessment requirements and the course
calendar.

Assessment tasks are graded via the Turnitin platform, which prevents plagiarism.
Tutors provide detailed feedback on all written assignments and you are free to contact
the tutor to query any instruction or learning requirement which may be unclear.

What are the advantages of MySats?

• One-stop studying. You have direct access to everything you need for your courses,
including your reading material and library access.
• Contact with other students. You are able to communicate with other students by
using the Course Forum. Since the feeling of isolation is one of the great challenges
of distance learning, sharing your journey with other students is a great help.
• Online assessments. You are able to submit your assignments and take your tests
on MySats without any administrative delays. You are also able to see that your
work has been received, and receive it back as soon as it has been marked.
• Improved facilitation. Each course has a facilitator whom you can contact via
MySats if you have any queries or problems. Course facilitators may provide
guidance to the whole class on the course forum, and make announcements on a
    dedicated news forum.
• Paced learning. By assigning due dates for all assignments and completion dates
for all courses, MySats helps you to pace your studies in such a way that you are
able to complete your qualification in good time by doing one subject in each three-
month term. The assignment dates are spread out to make your time-management
easy – you just have to work steadily to complete your course.
• Helpdesk. A helpdesk facility has been installed to give you direct access to
technical help, should you need it.
• The MySATS page provides access to our extensive collection of research material.
• From MySATS students and faculty have access to various types of online meetings.

In order to successfully complete your undergraduate studies, you will need to have
access to the Internet and a computer, as students are required to submit their
assignments online to the MySats website.

In addition to the Bachelor of Theology, the following programmes are available at the
Higher Certificate level:
• Higher Certificate in Christian Life
• Higher Certificate in Christian Counselling

We recognise prior learning in all our undergraduate programmes. You may qualify for
exemption for certain courses in your programme on the basis of non-formal studies
(i.e. non-accredited courses) or informal learning (i.e. life and ministry experience).
You may also transfer credits that you earned at other accredited institutions if the
subjects overlap. All exemptions and transfers are allocated according to the courses
available in our curriculum.

Should our B.Th. students wish to continue their studies in a postgraduate programme,
they are well prepared to do so. All our programmes are registered by the Department
of Higher Education and accredited by the Council on Higher Education. The Bachelor
of Theology programme may be taken in English or French.

                           1 3 2 C RE D IT S O N N Q F L E V EL 5

Christians are not exempt from problems and our churches have many people who need
counselling. Unfortunately, our pastors are so overloaded with work that they often
cannot cover all those who need help. Well-trained lay counsellors are needed and
this programme is designed to equip those who feel called into this ministry. Written
by Dr Mervin van der Spuy, former head of the Association of Christian Counsellors
in SA, this programme is extremely comprehensive. It contains all the theoretical and
practical knowledge you will need as a lay counsellor. The training is done from an
integrated theology/psychology perspective and equips on a para-professional care
giving level. Like all our programmes it is Christ-centred and Biblically based.

NB. This programme is not designed to equip those who wish to open a professional
counselling practice.

ENROLMENT REQUIREMENTS
As per Higher Certificate in Christian Life.

The Higher Certificate in Christian Counselling consists of a Core curriculum of six
courses (72 credits) and four electives (48 credits) chosen from the available courses.
Three core courses and some of the electives are second year courses (level 6).

The Higher Certificate in Christian Counselling counts for a full 60 credits towards a
B.Th. degree.

NB. You are required to complete this qualification within a period of 3 years.

Students enrolling for this programme will first need to complete the compulsory
course for all SATS students: THE1120 Introduction to Theology.
