Dear St. Paul’s,
Given our location downtown and my years-long desire to be involved in a community organization,
I’m happy to announce that I—and we at St. Paul’s—have become members of the Downtown
Oconomowoc Business Association (DOBA). During our 150th anniversary, St. Paul’s committed to our
historic downtown location. Being involved in DOBA is a great opportunity for us to serve our
community.
Looking ahead, DOBA is asking St. Paul's if we’re willing to help create a special kids area for Fall Fest
on September 11 th. This summer they’re looking for volunteer help at the Village Green Beer Gardens
from 4:30-9pm on FRIDAY, JULY 16 TH. Please let me (podonnell@splco.org, 262-567-5001) or Amy
Hackbarth (amy@splco.org, 262-567-5001) know if you’re able to volunteer.

Life Thoughts in the Church Year
Almighty God makes Himself known to us as Father, Son, and Spirit (Isaiah 6:3, 8). He delights in
nothing more than bringing forth children (Psalm 29:9; John 3:3-5). Childbearing means more than

THE HOLY TRINITY
Isaiah 6:1-8
I n the year that King U zziah died I s aw the L ord s itting upon a throne, high and lifted up; and the train
of his robe filled the temple. Above him s tood the s eraphim. E ach had s ix wings: with two he c overed
his fac e, and with two he c overed his feet, and with two he flew. A nd one c alled to another and s aid:
“H oly, holy, holy is the LO RD of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory!” A nd the foundations of the
thres holds s hook at the voice of him who c alled, and the house was filled with s moke. A nd I s aid: “Woe
is me! For I am lost; for I am a man of unc lean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean
lips ; for my eyes have s een the King, the L O RD of hos ts!” T hen one of the s eraphim flew to me, having
in his hand a burning c oal that he had taken with tongs from the altar. And he touched my mouth and
s aid: “Behold, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away, and your s in atoned for.” A nd I
heard the voice of the L ord s aying, “Whom s hall I send, and who will go for us ? ” T hen I said, “H ere am
I ! Send me.”
Acts 2:14a, 22-36
P eter, s tanding with the eleven, lifted up his voice and addressed them, . . .“M en of I s rael, hear these
words : J esus of N azareth, a man attested to you by G od with mighty works and wonders and s igns that
G od did through him in your midst, as you yourselves know— this J esus, delivered up according to the
definite plan and foreknowledge of G od, you c rucified and killed by the hands of lawless men. G od
rais ed him up, loosing the pangs of death, because it was not possible for him to be held by it. For
D avid s ays c oncerning him, “‘I s aw the L ord always before me, for he is at my right hand that I may
not be s haken; therefore my heart was glad, and my tongue rejoiced; my flesh also will dwell in hope.
For you will not abandon my s oul to H ades, or let your H oly O ne s ee c orruption. Y ou have made known
to me the paths of life; you will make me full of gladness with your presence.’ “Brothers, I may s ay to
you with c onfidence about the patriarch David that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with
us to this day. Being therefore a prophet, and knowing that G od had sworn with an oath to him that he
would s et one of his descendants on his throne, he fores aw and s poke about the resurrection of the
C hrist, that he was not abandoned to H ades, nor did his flesh s ee corruption. T his J esus G od raised up,
and of that we all are witnesses. Being therefore exalted at the right hand of G od, and having received
from the Father the promise of the H oly Spirit, he has poured out this that you yourselves are s eeing
and hearing. For D avid did not ascend into the heavens, but he himself s ays, “‘T he L ord s aid to my
L ord, Sit at my right hand, until I make your enemies your footstool.’ L et all the house of I srael
therefore know for c ertain that G od has made him both L ord and Christ, this J esus whom you
c ruc ified.”
St. John 13:1-17
N ow there was a man of the P harisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the J ews. T his man c ame to J esus
by night and s aid to him, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher c ome from G od, for no one c an do
thes e s igns that you do unless G od is with him.” J esus answered him, “T ruly, truly, I s ay to you, unless
one is born again he cannot s ee the kingdom of G od.” N icodemus s aid to him, “H ow c an a man be born
when he is old? C an he enter a s econd time into his mother’s womb and be born?” J esus answered,
“T ruly, truly, I s ay to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he c annot enter the kingdom of
G od. T hat which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that whic h is born of the Spirit is spirit. D o not marvel
that I s aid to you, ‘Y ou must be born again.’ T he wind blows where it wis hes, and you hear its sound,
but you do not know where it c omes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the
Spirit.” N icodemus s aid to him, “H ow c an these things be?” J esus answered him, “A re you the teacher
of I s rael and yet you do not understand these things? T ruly, truly, I s ay to you, we s peak of what we
know, and bear witness to what we have seen, but you do not receive our testimony. I f I have told you
earthly things and you do not believe, how c an you believe if I tell you heavenly things? N o one has
as c ended into heaven except he who descended from heaven, the Son of M an. A nd as Moses lifted up
the s erpent in the wilderness, s o mus t the Son of M an be lifted up, that whoever believes in him may
have eternal life.“For G od so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him
s hould not perish but have eternal life. For G od did not send his Son into the world to c ondemn the
world, but in order that the world might be s aved through him.”
