RECREATION COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES
                                June 7th, 2022

Call to order: Meeting was called to order @ 10:05am.
Minutes: Minutes from our May 3rd meeting are available at this meeting and on the
Recreation Committee web site.
Attendees: Lou Hodac, Peggy Clark, Richard Hunt, Rich Bolitski, Dan Favara, Dianne
Greway, Ed Greway, Sue Henshaw, Laura Normane, Tom Reilly, Sal Valvo, Charles Zanelotti
Visitors:

Treasurer’s Report: Richard Hunt reported that the $569.32 to US Bank payment made from
the Recreation account was corrected and the balance and expenses to date are accurately
reported.
           Treasury has a balance of $2320.11
 Expenses for the month of May amounted to $58.86
 Expenses to date amounted to $679.89

Old Business:

    1) TENNIS COURT RESURFACING: “Fast Surfaces” has been awarded the contract to
resurface our tennis courts and a down payment has been made to them. The
resurfacing work is scheduled to begin in mid-July of 2022 and, weather
permitting, should take 1 to 2 weeks. As of yet, no specific start date has been set
due to Fast Surfaces being backed up on other jobs due to rain delays.

New Business:

  1) COMMITTEE CHAIRS MEETING WITH BOT: All committee chairs were requested
to meet with the BOT on May 31st. The purpose of the meeting was to explain the
importance of limiting residents from suing our HOA for simple, frivolous and non-
negligent injuries sustained on our properties. The state of NJ permits HOA’s to limit
personal injuries lawsuits, unless the HOA was found to have acted in a willful,
wanton or grossly negligent fashion, by implementing the TORT IMMUNITY
provision. To implement this provision, an amendment to our HOA By-Laws is
necessary and an affirmative vote of 2/3rds of all homeowners is required pass the
amendment. The HOA is requesting that all committee chairs and committee
members educate our residents about the benefits of this amendment and
encourage our residents to vote to pass this amendment. Much more info/guidance
will be forthcoming. Most significant benefit of implementing the TORT IMMUNITY
provision is to limit lawsuits thereby reducing the possibility of significant increases
     in our HOA dues!

Committee and has been appointed to the position of Women’s Tennis Coordinator.
Laura established the women’s play schedule to be as follows: 8am – 12noon on
Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Saturdays will also be for mixed doubles.

3) RECREATION ACTIVITY COORDINATOR’s STATUS/ISSUES:
Each Activity Coordinator will present status of their activity and discuss any issues
   associated with their activity.

   a) Social Billiards – Charles Zanelotti: Social Billiards continues to do well. Fewer
residents are participating due to the opening of other outdoor activities. There
are about 5 to 6 regular participants at each session.

   b) Volley Ball – Gary Steeb: Coordinator was not present. The season is over. Volley
Ball will start up again in September.

   c) Men’s Tennis - Rich Bolitski: Tennis court #2 is closed to all residents. The
surface repairs to the court have not been completed and a trip/fall hazard exists.
Play varies depending on how many participants show up.

   d) Darts - Dave Carey: Coordinator was not present. Participation continues with
the regular group of 10 to 12 people. New participants are encouraged to join.
Snacks are served around noon and play begins at 1:00 pm. All are welcome.

   e) Softball – Dom Centrone: Coordinator was not present. Season started on April
      26. Ten (10) players came out. At least 15 participants are needed for this
activity which is held every Tuesday at 9:00 am at the Port Republic Ball Field.

   f) Table Games: We are no longer searching for a coordinator for this activity.
Residents are playing on their own and things seem to be functioning quite well.
The Recreation Committee will continue to support these activities for
      equipment and supplies.

will start up again in the Spring.

July 11th, and every Monday evening for the next four weeks (July 18, July 25,
August 1 & August 8). The clinics will be conducted from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm and
will consist of a 30-minute instruction sessions followed by open play. Website

   i) Bocce – Lou Hodac: Our Bocce Masters, Danny, Allan & Sal are continuing to
conduct Saturday morning clinics. Clinics will continue every other Saturday
morning throughout the Social Bocce season, so long as interest warrants them.
Next clinic will be on June 11th. Lou will post a web announcement on the
preceding Friday to remind residents of the clinic.

   j) Social Bocce – Peggy Clark: Sessions are moving along very well. As is typical
every year, there are some frequent changes to the rosters. We were fortunate to
have a good pool of substitutes who transitioned on to regular sessions easily.
Several have remained on the sub list also. Captains have been collecting checks
for the luncheon and advising me accordingly. We are off to a very good start. I
would say somewhere between 40 to 50 so far. Captains are encouraged to
remind their team that the capacity of the Smithville Inn is 192. We have close to
300 bocce players. Space is limited. Get checks in early to secure attendance. The
Grand Slam challenge continues to be well received and enjoyed.

   k) Indoor Shuffleboard – Dianne & Ed Greway: Unfortunately, as with all good
things, on Friday, May 20th, our Indoor Shuffleboard spring season came to an
end. The fall season will be starting up in October, dates & times to be
announced. No Championship play-offs were planned for the spring season.

Coordinator will present status of their activity and discuss any issues associated
   with their activity.

   r) Stickball/Ping Pong – Still seeking a Coordinator: It was reported to Lou that one
of our ping pong tables is broken & being held together by a bungee cord. Lou
investigated and found that although the table is being held together with a
bungee cord, the table is stable and completely able to be used with no significant
impact to normal play. This opinion was supported by several regular players,
and all agreed that a new table would be nice, but not necessary at this time.

4) DEADLINE for SCOOP/NEWS LETTER/WEB SITE ARTICLES: Deadline for
items/articles for the July Scoop to Lou is Monday, June 13th. Deadline for
items/articles for the July News Letter to Lou is Friday, June 17th. Community web

Open Discussion: Issues, Comments, Ideas, etc.
 It was suggested that signs for the bocce, tennis, pickleball, shuffleboard, and
horseshoe courts be posted with rules and regulations for safe play. Lou and Peggy
will work on this and review with the coordinators of these activities.
   Next Committee Meeting: Tuesday, July 5th, 2022 @ 10am
