Step by Step Guide for
Attendees & Support People

Located in the centre and heart of
Palmerston North, we invite you into
The Regent Theatre on Broadway
to experience a classical music
performance showcasing works from
great composers such as Beethoven,
Greig, Smetana and Glinka.

This will be a shared experience for you,
your supporter(s)/Whanau and your New
Zealand Symphony Orchestra.

You will enter The Regent Theatre on
Broadway through the main entrance into
the foyer where you will be welcomed by
hosts. They are there to guide and help
you on the day.

The access into the theatre is via a ramp
off from the street for those who need
access in a wheelchair or walker assist
which leads to another very accessible
side entry. Otherwise it is a flat venue.

The Performance
Doors will open approx. 30 minutes before
the concert starts.

This concert will have an open-door policy.
This means you are free to move in and
out of the concert hall any time during the
performance.

The Relaxed Concert is conducted by
Hamish McKeich who will also introduce each
piece of music with assistance from NZSO
musicians.

The concert starts at 2.30pm and the
Orchestra will perform for about 45 minutes
with no interval. Feel free to move around
during the performance and to the music
performed by the orchestra.

At the end of the performance there will be
‘Instruments Up Close’ – a 10 minute section
where some members of the Orchestra will
meet and mingle with attendees to talk to
them and be asked questions. This will take
place at the front of the concert hall amongst
the first few rows.

12
The works that will be performed are:
Grieg Peer Gynt Suite No. 1
I. Morning Mood
IV. In the Hall of the Mountain King
Beethoven Egmont Overture
Smetana Vltava (The Moldau)
Glinka Ruslan and Lyudmila Overture

At the end of the concert you will exit
through the lower level access, the same
way you entered.

Thank you for joining us and we hope to
see you again soon. Mā te wā.

Seating, Lighting and Sounds
Seating
As this is a Relaxed Concert, we don’t
have a seating plan like many of our other
concerts. This concert will be General
Admission and you are free to choose
where you are seated for the concert.
Inside the concert hall there is flat-floor
seating with fixed chairs. There is also
tiered seating in the upper levels in fixed
rows with plenty of space for wheelchair
access.

Lighting
There will be no strobe or bright flashing
lights during this concert. There will
also be no lights shining out onto the
audience.

The house lights will remain on, at a
lower level, throughout the concert with
the ability to enter and exit the theatre
with full visibility throughout the concert
venue.

14
Sounds
You will hear a range of sounds at the
concert.

There is an Orchestra playing with a
variety of instruments ranging from quiet
flutes and strings to moments of loud
percussion and brass.

As this is a Relaxed Concert, you may
notice the audience around you making
some noise too. If you find this too
overwhelming, you can go to the Chill-Out
Zone outside the concert space which will
be quiet and somewhere you can relax.

Earplugs will also be available at each of
the venues, just ask a host or NZSO staff
member.
