Welcome We hope your training has been going well and that you are looking forward to the Selby Three Swans Sportive. Thank you for raising funds to help more people survive cancer - right here in Yorkshire - every year. If you wish to, you can set up an online giving page by visiting: www.everydayhero.co.uk/event/selbythreeswans2019. This booklet contains important details about the event along with safety arrangements for the day. Please familiarise yourself with this before you arrive. Please note that this is a non-competitive sportive, not a race. The route is sign posted but you will need to keep an eye out for them. All riders must follow the Highway Code and respect other cyclists and road users. The event is on public highways and you are responsible for your safety. Registration All riders must register before the event either on Saturday or Sunday. The registration desks will be split by the first letter of your surname. You will be issued with your rider number and chip timing sticker to stick to your helmet. Please note: Riders can collect more than one number if they have a copy of the other rider(s) confirmation emails with them. You will be provided with your route map. This includes the emergency contact number. We recommend arriving at least one hour before the start of your ride to make sure there is enough time to park and register before making your way to the start area outside Selby Abbey, this is a 5-10 minute walk from the registration point. If any of your emergency contact details have changed since you registered for the event, please tell us when you collect your number. Toilets are available from 06:30 at The Summit and at the George Inn from 07:30 next to the start area. There will be no showers available.
Start/Finish Area The Start/Finish area is outside Selby Abbey. Please assemble on the pavement in front of the Abbey before your start time. The start line will close at 09:30. Riders will not be able to start after this time. The event village and finish line will close at 17:00. If you think you will struggle to meet this cut off time please change your ride distance or set off earlier. If the support vehicle catches up with you, you will be advised to take a shorter route to the finish. At the start line you will receive a short briefing containing any important changes or updates to the route. Technical support will be provided by Halfords at the registration point and Selby Cycling Club at the Start/Finish area on the Sunday only. They will provide last minute technical support, however, please check your bikes before arriving and bring any spares with you. Your results will be available at the Ride Timing kiosk as soon as you cross the finish line, and online at: www.ridetiming.co.uk/certificates. Please start at the allocated time and allow cyclists covering the longer distances to get to the start line ahead of you. Riders will set off every couple of minutes in small groups. It is best to assemble with your friends if you want to ride together.
Event Village If your families and friends are coming to support you on the day, please encourage them to pop along to our Event Village outside Selby Abbey. This will be open from 10:00 – 17:00. At the Yorkshire Cancer Research stand we are holding some welly themed activities, including welly wanging as part of our Give it Some Welly campaign. Official merchandise and information will also be available. If you’re looking for something a bit more relaxing to do when you get back from your ride, head on over to our free massage station to ease some life back into tired limbs. North Yorkshire Police will be on hand to security tag your bikes. If you need to refuel, Galloping Gourmet will be selling wood-fired pizzas, cheesy garlic breads, gourmet burgers, and chicken skewers in flatbreads. You can also quench your thirst at Coffee Bike, who will be serving organic coffee, hot chocolate, chai, tea and sweet bites from a vintage tricycle. Nidderdale DJ will join us in the village to provide entertainment and we’ll have stalls from Inspiring Healthy Lifestyles and Selby gym, Lion Fitness.
Route Information There are three distances; 30, 63 and 102 miles. Refreshment Points Please be considerate and only take the refreshments you need. One Swan - 30 mile The 30 mile refreshment point will be located in the car park of the Wenlock Arms pub after 13 miles. Two Swans - 63 mile The refreshment point at Ryther Village Hall will open from 09:30 - 15:00 at the 27 and 55 mile points. Three Swans - 102 mile The refreshment point at Ryther Village Hall will open from 09:30 - 15:00 at the 27 and 55 mile points. There will be a further refreshment point at Chapel Haddlesey Village Hall, at around 85 miles. All refreshment points will contain a selection of sweet and savoury items along with drinks.
Parking & Photography Parking Information The Summit car park is not available for parking during the event. Please use the alternative Pay and Display car parks within Selby. All council car parks are free on Sundays. To find a map of all the car parks open visit www.parkopedia.com. We suggest you park and then register with your bike to avoid you having to go back and forth to your car. Please leave your bikes on the bike racks provided outside the Summit Indoor Adventure to help prevent overcrowding. If this is not possible, you will be able to walk through the registration area with your bike. Selby train station is a 10 minute walk from Summit Indoor Adventure. Event photography This year, the Sportive will be photographed by Sport Sunday Events Photography. Photos will be available to view and buy from their website and a direct link will be emailed to all participants after the event: www.sportsunday.co.uk. Yorkshire Cancer Research will also be taking photos, these will be available on our Facebook page after the www.facebook.com/threeswanssportive. Children and under 18s All participants under the age of 18 must provide a consent form completed by their parent or guardian. Parental consent forms will be available in advance or on the day. Riders under the age of 16 must also be accompanied by a parent or guardian throughout. To request a consent form please email events@ycr.org.uk.
In case of emergency The number for Event HQ is 07900 741 537 – please add it to your phone contacts. If you are in need of minor first aid please call this number. Medical support will be based in both Selby and at the refreshment point in Ryther. Please note that any rider requiring emergency medical support should call 999 straight away. Either you or a fellow rider should then ring the Event HQ to let us know in case our ambulance is closer. In the event that a hospital visit is required and you’re not able to complete the course, we will recover your bike and store it for 2 weeks until you are able to make arrangements to collect it. However, we will not be able to insure it against theft. If your bike breaks down and you cannot make it back to the finish area, please call Event HQ. You may have to wait to be collected due to the length of the course. There will be a support vehicle operating at the end of the event, collecting riders and bikes or suggesting shorter routes back to the finish area. If you can make it to the refreshment point at Ryther Village Hall please do, otherwise we will pick you up on the route. Do not leave the route without telling a volunteer or member of staff. If you decide to pull out of the event, please call the Event HQ number above and give your rider number. Any riders not accounted for when the ride ends will be called so we can ensure everyone is safely accounted for.

Free snacks and water are available at the refreshment points, but these should not be relied on and you should carry enough food for the entire ride.
