Ready for Heaven?
I heard many people say the autumn is their favorite season. The same is true for me. The multi-
hued foliage is all around us. The crisp air and piercing blue sky make us look above and breathe the air
of heaven itself.
There are so many choices in music to enjoy the season. As I am writing this, I am listening to
Adagio for strings by Samuel Barber, hauntingly beautiful and stirring, so apropos for this season. Of
course, we have a plethora of fantastic selections. Vivaldi, Bach, Beethoven, Brahms, etc., which help us
to appreciate the beauty, fruitfulness, and finality of things. Of course, there are other musical works
pointing out to the magnificent eternity such as Handel’s Messiah, the 9th symphony of Beethoven, the
Requiem of Mozart, Gounod, and Faure among others. We live in a fabulous time when we have
instant access to all sorts of music at our fingertip through the Internet.
We live in the period between the already and the not yet of the fulfillment of God’s Kingdom.
And there will be an end to this world as we know it. God is preparing something most wonderful:
“The wise shall shine brightly like the splendor of the firmament, and those who lead the many to
justice shall be like the stars forever” (Daniel 12:3).
Once during the Mass, I asked people who wanted to go to heaven, and everyone raised their
hands. And I asked who wanted to go to heaven tomorrow and I saw no hand raised.
A dear friend of mine gave some health supplement a couple of weeks ago, which is supposed to
suppress age-associated weight gain, enhance energy metabolism and physical activity, improve insulin
sensitivity, improve eye function, improve metabolism and prevent age-linked changes in gene
expression. In other words, it is intended to help us to have a healthy life and extend our lifespan. I
really appreciate his thoughtful gesture. My concern is that, as I get older, I do not want to be a burden
to anyone. But I cannot predict what will happen to me as I get older. I can only do my best in trying
to have a healthy lifestyle physically and spiritually.
Living a life in all its fullness – that is what Jesus wants us to have. When we are fully alive, we are
full of confidence and joy without anxiety or fear. Jesus alerts us regarding the last day: "But of that day
or hour, no one knows, neither the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father” (Matthew
24:36).
During this month of November, we recall that it is a time to harvest. Knowing that Jesus
accompanies our journey, our hearts will have a serene joy, approaching life and death with peace in
mind and heart. Perhaps we can do the following: 1) Examine our priorities. Are we doing something
about the most important things in life?; 2) Pray and reflect on the fact that Jesus has overcome death
and earned the resurrection so that we can live a life of hope and live a life open to eternity, to others,
and to God.; 3) Remember that how we live now is directly related to our life eternal. Heaven and
earth are related. We hope that we see and think with the eyes and mind of God. May we accept God’s
all-embracing love and mercy and be an instrument of grace to one another!

¿Preparados para el Cielo?
He Escuchado a mucha gente decir que el otoño es su estación favorita. Esto también es cierto para mí.
El follaje multicolor que nos rodea. El aire fresco y el cielo azul penetrante nos hacen mirar hacia arriba y
respirar el aire del mismo cielo.
Hay tantas opciones musicales para disfrutar de la época. Mientras escribo esto, escucho Adagio en
busca de cuerdas de Samuel Barber, inquietantemente hermoso y conmovedor, muy apropiado para esta
época. Por supuesto, tenemos una gran cantidad de fantásticas selecciones. Vivaldi, Bach, Beethoven,
Brahms, etc., que nos ayudan a apreciar la belleza, la fecundidad y la finalidad de las cosas. Por supuesto,
hay otras obras musicales que apuntan a la magnífica eternidad como el Mesías de Handel, la novena
sinfonía de Beethoven, el Réquiem de Mozart, Gounod y Faure entre otros.
Vivimos en una época fabulosa en la que tenemos acceso instantáneo a todo tipo de música a nuestro
alcance a través de Internet. Vivimos en el período entre el ya y el todavía no del cumplimiento del Reino
de Dios. Y habrá un fin para este mundo tal como lo conocemos. Dios está preparando algo de lo más
maravilloso: “Los sabios resplandecerán como el resplandor del firmamento, y los que llevan a muchos a la
justicia serán como las estrellas para siempre” (Daniel 12: 3).
Una vez, durante la misa, pregunté a las personas que si querían ir al cielo y todos levantaron la mano.
Y pregunté quién quería ir al cielo mañana y no vi ninguna mano levantada.
Un amigo muy querido me dio un suplemento de salud hace un par de semanas, que se supone
suprime el aumento de peso asociado con la edad, mejora el metabolismo energético y la actividad física,
mejora la sensibilidad a la insulina, mejora la función ocular, mejora el metabolismo y previene los cambios
relacionados con la edad en la expresión genética. En otras palabras, está destinado a ayudarnos a tener una
vida saludable y prolongar nuestra vida útil. Realmente aprecio su gesto reflexivo. Mi preocupación es que, a
medida que envejezco, no quiero ser una carga para nadie. Pero no puedo predecir lo que me pasará a
medida que envejezca. Solo puedo hacer todo lo posible para tratar de tener un estilo de vida saludable
física y espiritualmente.
Vivir una vida en toda su plenitud, eso es lo que Jesús quiere que tengamos. Cuando estamos
completamente vivos, estamos llenos de confianza y alegría sin ansiedad ni miedo. Jesús nos alerta sobre el
último día: "Pero de ese día u hora, nadie sabe, ni los ángeles en el cielo, ni el Hijo, sino sólo el
Padre" (Mateo 24:36).
Durante este mes de noviembre, recordamos que es época de cosecha. Sabiendo que Jesús acompaña
nuestro camino, nuestro corazón tendrá una alegría serena, acercándose a la vida y la muerte con paz en la
mente y el corazón. Quizás podamos hacer lo siguiente: 1) Examinar nuestras prioridades. ¿Estamos haciendo
algo sobre las cosas más importantes de la vida ?; 2) Orar y reflexionar sobre el hecho de que Jesús ha
vencido a la muerte y ha ganado la resurrección para que podamos vivir una vida de esperanza y una vida
abierta a la eternidad, a los demás y a Dios; 3) Recuerde que la forma en que vivimos ahora está
directamente relacionada con nuestra vida eterna. El cielo y la tierra están relacionados. Esperamos ver y
pensar con los ojos y la mente de Dios. ¡Ojalá que aceptemos el amor y la misericordia de Dios que todo lo
abarca y seamos un instrumento de gracia los unos para los otros!
