The Adelaide Hills Rally is proud to welcome Bott Storage Systems as the
event naming rights sponsor for 2018. Bott is a global leader in the design
and manufacture of in-vehicle and workshop storage equipment.
In Australia and New Zealand, the international Bott Group is represented by
                              Bott Storage Systems.
Bott brought rally legend Frank Kelly down-under last year and also supports
the Paddon Motorsport Hyundai team in New Zealand.
The range of Bott in-vehicle storage equipment is proudly made in
South Australia. Craig Beard, Managing Director says “The AHR represents
a great opportunity to showcase our product range to motorsport fans and
the general public alike. We have recently released a new range of dedicated
trade-packs and the rally is a great way of taking the products out of the
                    showroom and into the community.”
Throughout the event there will be a selection of Bott demonstration
vans and utilities on display to see first-hand the quality of the fit-out and
                             superior engineering.

SPECTATOR GUIDE - Ultimate Motorsport Events
WELCOME -
FROM THE EVENT DIRECTOR AND
     CLERK-OF-COURSE
Thank you to David McDonough and Craig Beard from the BOTT Group for coming on board as our
Major Sponsor this year. Your support of our major sponsor is always appreciated.
This year, our main aim is to bring Rally back to the public! You will find the Service Park located in the
centre of Mt Barker at the local Showgrounds/Main Oval, just 15 minutes from Adelaide. We are lucky
enough to have partnered with Hills Radio 88.9FM to broadcast live from the scrutineering and service
park and will be actively asking crews for their comments.
We have decided to change the format of scrutineering, where we will be closing off Gawler Street in
Mt Barker to host the promotional scrutineering and team meet and greet evening. Crew attendance
will be required, and afterwards, will park their cars for the public to view while signing posters and
engaging with the public at the drivers signing session. Times will be allocated for this.
Another change this year that we are very excited about is the Shannon’s Adventure Tour, an initiative
that the 2018 BOTT Adelaide Hills Rally has recently introduced.
We also have reintroduced Classic Cars as part of the ARC competition through the 2018 BOTT
Adelaide Hills Rally Classic Cup. We have been missing the diversity that the Classic Cars bring in the
ARC events and hope that we will spark a revival in these spectacular vehicles in ARC events.
Wednesday will have full and part day testing sessions available, with Thursday put aside for
reconnaissance and scrutineering. Friday will see the teams based out of “The Bend Motorsport
Park”. There will be a further short testing session before we move in to Shakedown and Media Rides.
At 1500hrs we then move into recce or the best Super Special Stage run in Australia since the WRC
was held at Langley Park. Teams will have their cars in the holding area at the Stadium Track at “The
Bend Motorsport Park” at 1730hrs before the first cars hit the track at 1800hrs. Two cars will be match
raced off against each other twice to see who will lead the event into the start of day 2.
General, Family, Concession and Corporate Admission.
Saturday will see the spectacular 37km mega stage run twice, which will be a good hit out to stretch
their legs for the ARC cars heading on to the WRC in Coffs Harbour in November.
Sunday, we head to the Mt Crawford Forest in the morning before returning to the Adelaide Hills
stages. We are lucky to have the Mawson Road stage back in rallying in Australia. The event will have
2 spectating areas, one at Anderson Hill Winery and the other at Pike & Joyce Winery, where lunch and
drinks will be supplied in the ticket price.
We hope you enjoy the food vans and the displays in the activations area on the main oval in Mount
Barker. A Virtual Rally Experience will be available for all to test their driving skills in the main Pavilion,
with results and rally videos being displayed on the super screen throughout the event. There will be
plenty of tables and chairs for families to be able to sit down and enjoy the rally experience.
Have a wonderful and successful event and please stay safe and well.

             Andrew Admiraal, Michael Clements,
              Event Director Clerk-of-Course
                                                                                                              5
SPECTATOR GUIDE - Ultimate Motorsport Events
2018 CAMS AUSTRALIAN RALLY
                  CHAMPIONSHIP SO FAR
Harry Bates and John McCarthy gave the Toyota Yaris AP4 its maiden CAMS Australian Rally
Championship round 1 victory at The Courier Eureka Rally on March 3-4 near Ballarat.
Bates took out heat wins on both Saturday and Sunday to claim 11 of 15 stages, finishing heat
two 28 seconds ahead of Steve Glenney and Michael Potter (Subaru WRX STi).
Glenney made a stellar return to the ARC as a driver after a ten-year absence, claiming second
for the round with a string of fast and consistent stage times.
Tankformers Eli Evans and Ben Searcy (Mini Cooper AP4) rounded out the podium in their first
event together, finishing Sunday’s heat in fourth position behind Glen Raymond and Kate Catford
(Mitsubishi Evo IX) but with enough points from heat one to claim third for the round.
In the ARC 2WD championship, reigning champions Adam Kaplan and Aleshia Penney (Mazda
RX7) took out the round win by just one point from Jason Lennane and Amanda Ramia (Proton Satria
2000). Haowen Chu and Xinan Mao (Ford Fiesta) claimed third.

Switching to a leased Skoda Fabia R5, Tankformers’ Eli Evans and Ben Searcy completed a
clean sweep of the Make Smoking History Forest Rally in Western Australia (27-29 April), winning
both heats and 15 of 19 stages to claim maximum points in round two of the CAMS Australian Rally
Championship (ARC).
Evans’ victory at WA’s Forest Rally, his third time on the top step at this event, handed him
a slim five-point lead in the championship, ahead of Steve Glenney, with new co-driver SA’s Andy
Sarandis, in second and Harry Bates/John McCarthy (Toyota Yaris) in third.
Evans’ last ARC round win was at the Scouts’ Rally in South Australia in October 2015, with
Glen Weston in the co-driver’s seat. Evans and Weston went on to take out the CAMS Australian Rally
Championship that year.
Steve Glenney produced a strong drive to claim second outright in only his second appearance
at the event, and his first in 12 years. Subaru do Motorsport’s Molly Taylor and Malcolm Read
improved throughout the weekend to grab third place, ahead of Glen Raymond and Kate Catford.

Evans and Searcy took outright honours at the Netier National Capital Rally (June 1-3),
claiming maximum points as the fastest crew on leg one and for the outright win, also grabbing the
bonus point for the most stage wins.
Round 1 winners Harry Bates and John McCarthy were the only team to stand in the way of a
clean sweep for Evans and Searcy, winning the leg 2 battle by just 10 seconds and grabbing the 20
points.
Glenney, Bates and Taylor remain in second, third and fourth respectively but it was Adrian Coppin and
Erin Kelley (Skoda Favia R5) were the big winners of the weekend. Their second place podium finish
saw them move from eighth to fifth in the standings.

In Subaru Rally Tasmania (27-29 July) Glenney and Sarandis went fastest on Friday night’s
SSS in Launceston before going off the road in the following day’s second stage.
Running equal first, Bates/McCarthy lost 14 minutes on the same stage with an electrical
problem, allowing Evans/Searcy to dominate the day’s proceedings, finishing well ahead of Taylor/
Read and Coppins/Toni Feaver and Marcus and Scott Walkem (Peugeot 208). .
Sunday’s opening stage saw Evans overshooting a corner and stalling, losing 5 minutes.
Their comeback brought them back up to second behind Glenney, before getting a post-event
penalty for receiving outside assistance.
This was appealed and overturned, giving them second for the heat ahead of Coppin/ Feaver,
Taylor/Read and Lewis Bates/Dale Moscatt (Toyota Corolla S2000).
Current pointscore: 1. Eli Evans 290 pts, 2. Steve Glenney 239 pts, 3. Harry Bates 206 pts
4. Molly Taylor 200 pts, 5. Adrian Coppin 189 pts, 6. Lewis Bates 130 pts.

SPECTATOR GUIDE - Ultimate Motorsport Events
2018 MRF TYRES S.A. RALLY CHAMPIONSHIP
                SO FAR
The 2018 MRF Tyres S.A. Rally Championship began with the AGL Rally of the Heartland in
the Burra region of the State’s mid-north on June 2-3.
The “blind” rally, ie no pacenoting, also consisted of a Classic category, which was dominated
by Mal Keough and Pip Bennett’s fearsome Audi Quattro S1 Group B replica.
Whilst reigning S.A. champions Aaron Bowering and Heath Weedon retired on the opening
stage with a damaged radiator in their WRX, Zayne Admiraal and Matthew Heywood’s similar Subaru
led from the opening stage, with Victorian Peter Schey and local Kate Catford’s WRX STi in the first
windfarm stage.
Admiraal received a 90 second penalty for being late out of service, dropping him from first to
seventh, his fightback getting him back into the lead three stages later.
He finished the day ahead of Schey, Matt Selley/Hamish McKendrick’s Escort Mk II and Stuart
Bowes/Mark Nelson’s Mercedes Benz 450 SLC, also running in Classic.
Bowering returned for Sunday’s stages, where Jamie Pohlner/Ken Moore’s WRX was fastest on
the opening Burra Gorge, Selley’s Escort having its clutch fail near the end of the stage.
The following South to North, sixth-placed Marc Butler and Peter Sims rolled their Honda Civic,
very lucky to escape serious injury.
Despite a puncture on the penultimate stage, Admiraal finished up 1:14 ahead of Schey, Bowes
a further 1:18 away, with Dale Cagney and Mark Dycer’s Mitsubishi Evo III another 27 seconds back.

Round 2 was a brand-new event, the Auto One Port Augusta Rally of the Ranges on June
29, another “blind” rally, based in the spectacular southern Flinders Ranges.
Stages consisted of a bitumen run through Pichi Richi Pass, fast, smooth gravel roads, a rough
track on private property featuring quite a few cautions for creek beds and off-camber corners and a
stage at the Hawker racetrack, all in daylight.
Schey and Admiraal tied on the opening Pichi Richi before the Bowes Mercedes went into the
lead ahead of Bowering and Admiraal. The fast, flowing roads suited the heavy, powerful Mercedes,
setting two fastest times.
A tight right-hander dropping into a creekbed on Heysen saw most of the field overshoot.
Leading going into the final stage, Admiraal had a flat tyre and a jack problem, dropping him
to 11th while Schey’s rapid time gave him the win by 12 seconds over Bowering, Bowes 14 seconds
further back, 13 seconds ahead of Pohlner, in turn 24 seconds up on Paul Heenan/Andrew Kriesel’s
Mitsubishi Galant VR4.

The season’s first pacenoted rally, the 34th running of the Copyworld Walky 100 Rally, held on
August 11, moved south to Eudunda from its traditional Robertstown base.
The very wet conditions saw the two runs of the Frankston stage dropped.
Aaron Bowering/Heath Weedon took the lead on the first stage before Declan Dwyer/Craig
Adams (Mitsubishi Evo VI), in their first rally for the year, wrestled it from them.
Pohler’s WRX stopped for 14 minutes on Julia 2 after ingesting mud before Bowering was out a
couple of stages later with a cracked sump.
This left Dwyer in the lead, closely followed by Admiraal, before the latter scored a 40 second
service penalty, putting Dwyer beyond his reach.
The pair kept trading fastest times for the remainder of the event, Dwyer winning by 42 seconds
from Admiraal, Matt Selley/Hamish Mc Kendrick’s Escort 19 seconds further back, 40 seconds ahead
of Shane Alker/Karien Heimsohn’s WRX STi with Schey/Catford’s similar Subaru 30 seconds away.
Schey/Catford lead the pointscore with 143, Admiraal/Heywood moving up to second
on 114, ahead of Stuart Bowes/Mark Nelson (Mercedes Benz 450 SLC) with 92, Dale Cagney/Mark
Dycer (Lancer EVO III) on 90.5, Paul Heeenan/Andrew Kriesl (Galant VR4) with 87 and Shane Alker/
Karien Heimsohn sixth with 83.

                                                                                                     7

BOTT MAKING LIFE EASIER FOR
        HYUNDAI NZ RALLY TEAM
WORDS: ROBERT BARRY PHOTOS GEOFF RIDDER

German vehicle storage systems manufacturer Bott may not be a Kiwi household name like WRC driver Hayden Paddon,
but its bespoke vehicle fit-out is making life easier for the Hyundai New Zealand rally team.
Bott is headquartered in Germany with operations throughout Europe and its van racking and ute drawer product have
been available in New Zealand through Fully Equipped for more than 12 months.
As a supplier to Hyundai Motorsport, Paddon is very familiar with the Bott range of equipment. Bott can provide racking
to suit every budget and type of commercial vehicle be it a truck, ute or van. The racking is manufactured in Australia so
there is a quick turnaround on parts.
“In the world rally championship all of our service trucks and corporate centres are fitted out with Bott gear and it is
amazing stuff,” says Paddon.
The connections between Hyundai Motorsport and Bott date back to 2012 when the Aleznau workshop facility in
Germany was established to develop the i20 for the World Rally Championship.
Paddon and his New Zealand-based rally team had previously used Hyundai iLoad vans as support vehicles, but for this
domestic rally season they decided to obtain a second hand medium-duty truck from the United Kingdom and modify it to
suit their requirements.
“We needed a custom fit-out for the rally truck and the Bott engineering team delivered a great bespoke solution, and it
only took four weeks from concept to delivery,” says Paddon.
The bespoke Bott fit-out inside the Hyundai New Zealand rally team truck includes drawers, shelves, service cases and
even a tyre rack.
“Now every piece of equipment has a dedicated storage space so the guys can be more efficient when it comes to doing
their job. It’s all part of building a winning team,” says Paddon.
Through Fully Equipped, Bott offers storage solutions constructed from galvanised steel for strength, durability and long
life, it’s primary customer being fleet management organisations.
Bott Storage Systems Australia managing director Craig Beard says all product developed by Bott for mobile applications
has been rigorously designed and crash tested to European standards.
Fully Equipped now stock a range of Bott solutions to suit most vans and utes, and there are standard trade packs to suit
electricians, plumbers, and service technicians, and product can also be configured for specific applications.
Bott has a long history of supporting motorsport and is proud to continue this tradition in New Zealand with the Hyundai
New Zealand rally team truck which made an appearance at the Gold Rush Rally of Coromandel beginning August 18,
being the fifth round of the 2017/2018 NZ rally championship.

S.A.’s RALLYING CAR CLUBS
South Eastern Automobile Club (S.E.A.C.) is the premier motor sports club in the South East of
South Australia. Located in Mount Gambier, we regularly conduct Trials, Motorkhana, Khanacross,
Autocross and other events up to Australian Championship level.
The club has a strong membership, and owns its own private Autocross track which is regularly used
for competition and training days. SEAC welcomes new members from any discipline of motor sport or
simply those interested in becoming involved in the club in any capacity.
The South Eastern Automobile Club proudly owns and manages its own CAMS sanctioned Autocross
facility, affectionately named SEAC Park. Located to the west of Mount Gambier, the property is
an excellent venue for driver training, competition days and social events. SEAC regularly conducts
working bees to keep the various tracks and land in top condition.
During the late 80’s and early 90’s the club decided that it would be interested in purchasing some land
for the purpose of holding club events. The land that was used for racing on at the time was becoming
harder to manage and so the hunt was on for a suitable site that was not too far from Mount Gambier,
was varied and interesting in topography and was at the right price.
After looking at a few locations, a former quarry site was selected on Megaw Rd, west of town.
The land was soon purchased and SEAC Park was born.
The club also organises the annual Legend of the Lakes Hillclimb.

We also have a range of social events throughout the year that are advertised in our monthly magazine the “Southern Comfort”.
In 2013 SDCC purchased the MID MURRAY MOTORPLEX (MMM), 400 acres situated 20km west of Walker Flat. With the tracks and
infrastructure well under way, this year will see continual improvement of the tracks
General meetings are held at 8.15pm on the second Wednesday of each month at the Colonel Light Gardens RSL, 3 Prince George
Parade Colonel Light Gardens. If you’re interested in motor sport then come along to the next meeting or even better come to an
event at our new track. You will find the members very friendly and more than willing to answer any questions you have or help out if
you come to race! SDCC welcomes new members, and spectators are free to come and enjoy Khanacross one of the fastest growing,
cheaper motor sport events available. Road cars are welcome and you can enter up to 4 drivers in the same car. So get your mates
together and buy a cheapie, add a fire extinguisher and mudflaps then have some fun on the track.
