2Registration Check List
Submit the Admission Application if you are a new student or a returning student who has not
enrolled in a class for one full year. Apply online at https://apply.nmsu.edu/apply plan on a 2 day
turnaround processing period. Application fee is waived online; $20 fee for paper application.
Apply for Financial Aid. FAFSA (Pell Grant, loans & work study) www.fafsa.gov. Allow six
weeks for processing. Apply for Scholarships at Scholar Dollar$, one application all NMSU
scholarships https://scholarships.nmsu.edu. Meet with the financial aid advisor in Student
Services for more information. Must apply once a year.
All transcripts are required for Admissions for degree seeking students. Send for official
transcripts of high school/GED scores and all colleges attended prior to enrolling at NMSU. If
you have a GED, all transcripts must be ordered through Diploma Sender at
www.diplomasender.com. In order to be eligible as a “degree seeking” student for financial
aid, all transcripts must be at NMSU Grants by February 5th, 2021. Please send official
electronic transcripts to gradmissions@nmsu.edu
Take the computerized College Placement Test, Accuplacer. Obtain a test ticket at the
Student Services Office. You will be tested for placement in English and Mathematics course
work. NOTE: It is not recommended that you enroll in General Education college classes,
or 200 level, (classes with a course number ending in “G”), without being concurrently
enrolled in or having completed ENGL 1110G.
Activate your my.nmsu.edu account. NMSU email is the official mode of communication;
contact the Information Technology Dept. (IT) if you have problems with your account

Attend the mandatory, online New Student Orientation if it is your first semester at NMSU
Grants. Orientation is offered online through CANVAS portal. See Student Services for more
information.
Register for classes EARLY. Online courses and some general education courses fill up very
quickly. Register at my.nmsu.edu. If you have a “hold”, you will need to see an advisor or
the Business Office.
Enroll in the payment plan and make your first payment before census date to avoid being
disenrolled from your classes. For more information see page 7 or visit https://uar.nmsu.edu or
call (505) 287-6653.
Obtain your Aggie ID in the Student Services Office, located in Martinez Hall.
Purchase books before the first day of class. Books can be purchased from Follett - NMSU
Bookstore. https://my.nmsu.edu (select Student, Registration and Textbook info).

Withdrawal from University
A withdrawal form must be completed with Student Services to withdraw from a course or from the University. Not following this procedure may result in
“F’s” for all courses for which you are registered. Students withdrawing after the stated refund dates remain liable for full tuition and fee charges.

Students officially withdrawing or dropping courses during the Spring 2021 semester are eligible to receive a refund as follows:

6New Payment Plan
PAYING FOR A COLLEGE EDUCATION IS ONE OF THE FIRST MAJOR FINANCIAL DECISIONS A STUDENT WILL
MAKE.
The payment plan has scheduled payment installments designed to help a student manage the costs and pay balances by
the end of the semester.
o Students will be required to enroll in the payment plan when the current semester outstanding balance is
$200 or more.
o Each payment plan is semester-specific.
o Payment plans will only be available to students enrolled in the current semester.
For the Spring 2021 semester, payment plan enrollment opens on December 16, 2020.
o The deadline for enrolling in the payment plan is January 31, 2021.
o There will be a non-refundable, $25 application fee.
o Fall and Spring semester payment plans will have five payments and the Summer semester plan will have
three payments.
▪ The first payment will be due at the time of enrollment
o The remaining payments will be due by the 15th of each month.
o There will be a $10 fee charged to a student’s account for each late, partial or missed payment.
o Payment amounts are subject to change if any charges or credits post after enrolling in the Payment Plan.
o A student cannot have a prior semester balance of $2,500 or more.
o To avoid dis-enrollment students must:
▪ have a prior balance of less than $2500

available to use toward their financial charges.
