2Policies
Enrollment:
Enroll online for any course at www.tulsaparks.org or in person at WaterWorks Art Center. We encourage you to enroll in
courses early, as they have a limited number of spaces. If a course becomes full we can place those still interested on a
waitlist. Courses are available to persons 16 years of age or older unless otherwise noted. Programs not meeting minimum
enrollment prior to their start date will be cancelled and some programs may have an enrollment deadline that can result in
late enrollment fees.
Cost and Payment:
Advanced registration for classes is required. Payments can be made online or in person, and we accept Visa/Mastercard
credit cards, check, or cash. If paying in cash, exact change is required. Make all checks payable to the City of Tulsa.
Materials or kit fees are paid to instructors on the first day of class. Tuition covers all necessary tools and supplies unless
otherwise noted. A supply list will be provided to students when needed.
A 25% fee will be added to all rental and programming prices for residents living outside City of Tulsa limits, but senior
citizen discounts, scholarships, and non profit rates are available for some programs and services. Speak with a park staff
member for more details.
ID Cards:
All patrons ages 10 and older must obtain a free Tulsa Parks ID card to participate in activities. Membership cards will be
issued upon enrollment if registering in person. If enrolling online, membership cards can be picked up on your first day of
class at the front desk. Check in using your membership card with each visit.
Attendance:
Tuition and fees are for the entire course, regardless of attendance. Students must attend the first day of class or contact
us prior to the class meeting, otherwise they will be unenrolled with no refund or credit issued.
Program Change:
Changes to programs are made based on current enrollment numbers, health and safety concerns or when needed by the
instructor. This can result in a change of day or time of program, as well as location, class size, changes or restrictions in
program content or even cancellation of the program. When a change to a class is made, we will contact all enrolled
participants with information about the change as soon as possible. If a participant no longer wants to attend the changed
class, a refund or in-house credit is available.
Credits & Refunds:
If a student withdraws prior to the class date, a credit or refund will be issued. Credits are useable at any Tulsa Parks
locations. Refunds are issued via check and will be mailed to the recipient.
Health & Safety:
The City of Tulsa’s Parks, Culture & Recreation Department remains committed to ensuring the health and safety of our
staff and residents during the current COVID-19 pandemic and continues to consult with the Tulsa Health Department and
CDC guidelines. Please note the following temporary practices and protocols are in place at our center:
Building hours and programs are subject to change in response to health guidance and protocols, including additional
restrictions, rescheduling and/or cancellations.
Online registration is available at www.tulsaparks.org and is the preferred method of enrollment and payment for all
programs and events to reduce your wait time and increase safety.
Tulsa Parks will continue requiring all staff and residents (ages 4 and older) to wear a face covering while inside any of
community or recreation facilities regardless of their vaccination status or activity participating in unless otherwise
notified by Tulsa Parks staff.
Each program will have a unique set of health and safety guidelines for the activity/event.
Additional updates and policies will be communicated by center staff as well as posted online to our website and social
media accounts.
Bullying and Discrimination:
Bullying and discrimination are real and taken seriously by Tulsa Parks and the City of Tulsa. Bullying or discriminatory
behavior by any patron will not be tolerated within our facility or park grounds.

3Empty Bowls
Volunteer Workshop
One Session led by Hans Fichtenberg

Empty Bowls is the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma's largest annual
fundraiser. Their Hunger Awareness Dinner will be held on May 10, 2022. Each year,
WaterWorks staff, artists and patrons donate their time and skills to make bowls for
this worthy cause. Pre-pandemic, over 800 bowls were created at WaterWorks Art
Center and provided to attendees of the Hunger Awareness Dinner.
If you would like to participate this year, please sign up for the volunteer workshop to
learn how to hand build and glaze the bowls. Registration is $5 and open to adults and
children age 7 and up (must be accompanied by adult). All materials and equipment are
provided. Students may keep one of their finished bowls and donate any additional
pieces to the fundraiser through WaterWorks Art Center. Finished bowls may be picked
up the first week of April.
4WATERWORKS SPRING BREAK ART CAMP
Monday - Friday 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Join us this spring for our educational and fun-filled WaterWorks Spring Break
Art Camp. A variety of art projects are designed for and offered to children ages
7 - 11 including drawing, painting, collage, ceramics and more! All supplies are
included!
Campers should bring a non-perishable sack lunch, snacks and a drink daily.
There are no vending machines available at WaterWorks Art Center.
Space is limited to ten (10) campers. Enroll in person or online at
WaterWorksArtCenter.com

5Birthday Art Parties
Come celebrate birthdays with us! Art-themed parties are available for kids ages 6 and up. Each birthday
party lasts approximately 1.5 hours (45 minutes for the art project and the remaining 45 minutes for
guests to enjoy refreshments brought by the host family). Typical art projects include: acrylic painting on
canvas; watercolor painting on paper; cards with ink stamping; and mixed media collage.

Beginning Pottery Wheel

This eight-session class is designed for anyone interested in learning how
to throw on the pottery wheel. After a comprehensive policies and
procedures lecture, students learn clay-forming techniques and develop
an understanding and appreciation for both the studio process and hand-
craftsmanship including how to center clay on the wheel, make cylinders,
and pull coffee mugs and bowls. Step-by-step instruction provides the
basic how-to information needed to complete one or more glazed
projects. Each student must purchase 25 lbs. of clay ($20); an optional
basic clay toolset is available for $10.
Intermediate Pottery Wheel

This eight-session class provides students already familiar with the safety
policies and procedures of the studio and/or have taken Beginning Pottery
Wheel at WaterWorks and wish to expand their skills. Students continue
their explorations of throwing clay on the wheel and explore various forms.
Brown clay ($20) and off-white clay ($25) are available for purchase at
WaterWorks Art Center and are not included in the tuition fee for the class.
Clay tool sets (optional) are available for $10. Pre-requisite: Pottery Wheel
101 or Beginning Pottery Wheel.

Glazing Techniques

Resident Teaching Artist Yusuf Etudaiye shares his many years of
experience with glaze applications and discusses various glaze
techniques. Participants make clay pieces at the beginning of the class
series to prepare for firings and glazing in this six-session class. Glazes
and firings are included in the tuition. Clay toolsets ($10), brown clay
($20), and off-white clay ($25) are available for purchase at WaterWorks
Art Center and are not included in the tuition fee for the class. This class
is limited to eight (8) participants. No experience is necessary – all skill
levels are welcome.

WaterWorks Art Center is a unique place to spend some quality time
with that someone special! Learn a new skill, get creative, and take home
a custom hand-crafted ceramic piece (or pieces) to remember your great
experience. Resident Teaching Artist, Yusuf Etudaiye, provides each
couple step-by-step instruction to make the project and select the glaze
that we will apply after your piece has dried and is bisque-fired. Glaze kiln
firing completes the process and your work of art is ready to pick up a
week later. Wear comfortable clothing or bring an apron/smock. All
materials are provided. No previous experience is necessary – just come
with an enthusiastic attitude and your date!

Forge a Copper Ring Dish Workshop
Instructor: Joseph Jenner
$70 · March 26 · Saturday · Noon – 4 p.m.
Students make a three- to four-inch dish from a copper disc and learn to
anneal, forge, form at the anvil, sand bag and wood forms. Students may
customize their copper dish using stamps, if desired. Forging is a physical
process that requires the ability to swing a hammer repetitively. Previous
metalsmith experience is helpful, but not required in this workshop. A kit
fee of $10 (payable to the instructor) covers all materials. Tools are
provided and shared. All students must wear closed-toe shoes to
participate in classes and open studio sessions held in the Jewelry/Metals
Studio.

Enameling I: Cloisonné
Instructor: E. Dee Tabor
$85 · March 31 - April 14 · Thursdays · 1 – 4 p.m.
Students learn design considerations, metal preparation and fabrication
methods to apply and fire enamels, then finishing techniques to produce a
piece of wearable art. This three-session class focuses on one of several
enamel techniques that includes creating and filling small metal cells with
rich colors of transparent, opaque and opalescent enamels in making a
pendant or earrings. A kit fee of $30 (payable to the instructor) provides
the materials to complete course project in copper and fine silver. Some
metalsmithing experience or completion of Jewelry Basics is helpful.

Jewelry Basics
Instructor: Jenny Bradley
$110 · April 5 - May 10 · Tuesdays · 5 - 8 p.m.
Create a foundation of jewelry and metalsmithing skills in this six-week
class. Learn the basics of jewelry making including sawing, annealing,
texturing, soldering, polishing and more. Students work on samples and
finish with two-three pieces, i.e., pendant, earrings, and/or ring by the
end of the class. This is a great way to explore the many techniques and
skills needed to begin making your own jewelry. A kit fee of $40 (payable
to the instructor) covers all materials. Tools are provided and shared. No
prior jewelry experience necessary in this six-session class limited to six
(6) students. All students must wear closed-toe shoes to participate in
classes and open studio sessions held in the Jewelry/Metals Studio.

Make an Upcycled Art Sculpture!

$40 · April 23 · Saturday · 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Celebrate Earth Day and create a sculpture using found objects in this
fun, one-day workshop. Students create a three-dimensional sculpture
using glass bottles, plastic bags, paper, cardboard, wood, glass, rubber,
metal and more into works of “upcycled” art: art that seeks to transform
waste such into another form and that may provide economic, cultural
and social value. Students explore working with found materials and learn
techniques to combine objects into amazing works in which the only limit
is the artist’s imagination and creativity! All “upcyclers” are welcome –
bring items from home and we’ll provide some, too! Children must be
accompanied by adults to participate in this workshop.

Enameling II: Champlevé
Instructor: E. Dee Tabor
$85 · May 5 - 19 · Thursdays · 1– 4 p.m
Explore the intricate process of champlevé enameling using beautiful
colors of transparent and opalescent enamels to create small pieces of
jewelry. Use the wet-packing technique to fill and blend enamels in
troughs or cells that are carved or imprinted into the metal surface in
preparation of kiln-firing each piece multiple times. A kit fee of $30
(payable to the instructor) provides the materials to complete course
project in copper and fine silver. This workshop is designed for those who
have some metalsmithing experience or have completed Enameling I:
Cloisonné at WaterWorks.

Hot Wax: An Introduction to Encaustic Painting
Instructor: Tom Conrad
$75 · March 25 · Friday · 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Join us in an exploration into the bold world of hot wax painting! Using
hot pigmented wax is versatile – you can build layers of opaque or
translucent wax, then scrape, texture and polish to achieve a variety of
stunning visual effects. It’s also possible to incorporate collage
materials to add an extra dimension to the wax imagery, so bring any
additional materials (photos, fabric, specialized papers) you desire and
let your imagination run wild! Each student leaves with a 9” x 12”
painted encaustic board. Students are encouraged to wear aprons or
old clothes. All materials are included in this one-day introductory
workshop limited to six (6) participants. All skill levels are welcome –
no previous experience is necessary. Bring a sack lunch and beverage,
if desired, to enjoy during a short lunch break.

Painting Trees & Rocks in Pastel
Instructor: Greg Stone, PSA
$65 · March 26 - April 9 · Saturdays · Noon – 3 p.m.
Students learn to paint trees and rocks as though they were portraits –
not just as images in a larger landscape, but as individual subjects. In this
three-session class, students study the nuances and intricacies of these
natural shapes and begin to view the landscape in new and exciting ways.
Each student brings a good selection of soft pastels (not oil pastels) with a
variety of values, colors and temperatures such as Richeson 40
Landscape™ or Richeson Handmade 24 Set™, a pack of UART™ sanded
paper (any grit, but in light, not dark, colors), reference photos of winter
scenes and a sketchbook, pencil and eraser. All skill levels are welcome.
No previous experience is necessary.

Waxing Poetic Basics Workshop:
Beginning Cold Wax & Oil Painting
Instructor: Lori Roll
$60 · April 1 · Friday 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.
This ancient medium using wax with oil pigments is gaining tremendous
popularity in the United States and abroad. Learn the basics using this
malleable medium to create layers, marks and personal artistic
expressions in this one-day workshop. Students new to cold oil and wax
are introduced to the medium, materials and tools. The instructor
demonstrates color mixing, applications and techniques. Students bring a
roll of 1" painter's tape and a pad of Arches™ (or other brand) 9"x12" oil
paper. Wear old clothes or an apron. All skill levels are welcome – no
experience is necessary. This dynamic offering is limited to ten (10)
participants to allow for individual attention and support.

If you have already taken a workshop in cold wax and oil painting, this
workshop is for you! You’ve already got the basics and a general
understanding of the endless possibilities of this malleable medium and
you’re ready to explore and expand your repertoire. We refresh ourselves
with the basics, gather inspiration from various sources and then we paint!
Students explore techniques beyond the basics including the use of
pigment sticks, collage and mixed media. The instructor demonstrates
color mixing, applications and technique. Students bring a roll of 1"
painter's tape and a pad of Arches™ (or other brand) 12” x 16” oil paper.
Wear old clothes or an apron. This dynamic offering is limited to ten (10)
participants to allow for maximum individual attention and painting time.

The Art of Landscape Design

The principles of landscape design include the elements of unity, scale,
balance, simplicity, variety, emphasis and sequence. Knowledge of these
elements is essential to designing a landscape development plan and
working through the design process. If you want a fresh sense of entry and
better curb appeal or ideas for a more relaxing backyard, this class is for
you! Students are encouraged to bring photos and measurements of areas
they wish to work on in this inspiring, two-session class limited to six (6)
students. Basic materials to sketch your landscape design are included.

Collage Compositions Workshop

Using animal and nature templates, instructors work with students to
create an artful collage to honor Earth Day! Students bring a 16” x 20”
canvas board for collage and any favorite papers or collage materials.
Materials provided include handmade and commercial printed papers,
found items, and interesting tidbits. If time allows, we may also create a
quick, very simple Concertina sketchbook using recycled materials. All
skill levels are welcome – no previous experience is necessary to create
an inspired collage composition. Wear old clothes to this fun, but messy
workshop. Bring a snack, if desired, to enjoy during the short break.

Hand Papermaking Workshop
Instructor: Tom Conrad & Lee Anne Zeigler
$40 · March 12 · Saturday · 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Handmade paper can be used to make cards, journals, or can be framed
as its own work of art! Come learn the basic techniques of making paper
by hand in this one-day workshop! We set up the pigmented paper pulp
(made in our own Hollander Beater), provide dishpan mould-and-deckle
sets and decorative objects such as dried botanicals and fabric --
everything one needs to create a dozen or more 7” x 9” sheets of paper.
Students work in the large studio room and outdoor classroom and are
encouraged to wear an apron and shoes suitable for standing on a wet
concrete floor. At the end of the workshop, each student loads their
handmade pages into a unique vacuum paper drying box. Students may
pick up their dried handmade paper the following Tuesday at
WaterWorks. All skill levels are welcome – no prior experience is
necessary.

Weaving a Personal Project

Make your next weaving project uniquely your own by selecting a project
from WaterWorks’ extensive collection of weaving patterns or using one
of your own ideas. With instructor assistance, adapt, warp, and then
weave the project to suit your vision on one of WaterWorks’ looms. Class
is limited to eleven (11) participants and instructor approval is required to
enroll. Participants purchase their own yarns for the project they choose.

Weaving 101: Introduction to 4-Shaft Weaving
Instructor: Lynn Tedder
$80 · March 21 - April 11 · Mondays · 6 - 8:30 p.m.
If you have ever wondered if weaving on a 4-shaft floor loom is for you,
this class can give you an answer. Participants use a 4-shaft floor loom to
weave a pre-warped color sampler in plain weave that can be used as a
table mat or wall hanging. In addition to learning basic techniques for
weaving a stable cloth, participants are introduced to the way colors work
in weaving and basic weaving terms. No prior weaving experience is
necessary – just an earnest desire to truly learn some time-honored basics
of weaving. Class is limited to four (4) students in this four-session class
and enrollment will close two weeks prior to class start. Students should
bring small sharp scissors or snips; a measuring tape or 6-inch sewing
ruler; and $5 (payable to the instructor) for the detailed class handout. All
materials are provided for this beginner class.

Growing & Using Natural Dyes from Your Garden

Interested in starting your own natural dye garden? Want to learn how to
use the raw plant materials and how to preserve them for future use? In
this workshop, students learn how to start a dye garden with seeds,
cuttings, and plants and how to locate sources for these materials.
Growing patterns of each plant, when to harvest for the best dye baths,
and how to preserve materials for future use are covered in this three-
hour workshop. The instructor will have a few seeds and plants for
student purchase. This workshop is limited to twelve (12) students. A kit
fee of $5 (payable to the instructor) covers workshop handouts.

Intermediate/Advanced Cherokee Double-Wall
Basket Weaving Workshop
Instructor: Laura Borders
$75 · May 6 & 7 · Friday & Saturday · 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Students create a Cherokee double-wall basket from natural reed with
instruction from Cherokee citizen and artist, Laura Borders, who will
demonstrate the mechanics of weaving a Cherokee basket which include
making and shaping the base, learning to weave with two runners instead
of one, adding more spokes to support a larger form and reducing spokes
to create more diverse shapes. Each student creates their own unique
basket using hand-dyed reeds and beads to incorporate the element of
color and design into their basket. A kit fee of $55 (payable to the
instructor in cash) provides everything needed to create a basket with
beads. This workshop is designed for those who have taken previous
basket weaving with Laura or with prior basket weaving experience.

Origami Crane Workshop

Remember a loved one by utilizing Origami: the ancient art of
paperfolding. This one-day workshop provides step-by-step instruction
and all supplies needed to create several paper cranes. A variety of crane
patterns as well as the traditional red-crowned crane are available to all
participants. Join us for this fun, stress-free workshop and create
beautiful tokens of remembrance just in time for Memorial Day. No

Nuno Felting Workshop

Nuno felting is a versatile technique where wool is combined with other
fabrics and fibers to create beautiful lightweight fabric. In this workshop,
participants explore this felting technique to create their own unique
wearable piece of art, wall hanging or other project of their choosing. This
workshop is perfect for anyone with or without previous felting
experience who is interested in learning more about this exciting felting
process. All skill levels are welcome -- no prior experience is required to
enjoy this workshop limited to ten (10) participants. A kit fee of $20

17Open Studio Policies
Our facilities are available for use beyond our workshops and classes. Do you need more time to finish up class
projects or dive more deeply into the material? Open Studio time is a great way to build a stronger art practice
and nurture our artist community.
For a daily Open Studio fee, you are welcome to access most work spaces for use of tools and equipment.
Students must have completed a course (excludes one-day workshops) in the medium studio area to ensure
safe use of materials and equipment. Release and waiver forms as well as policy & procedures documents must
be signed by clay and metalsmithing/jewelry students and any other specialty workshops and/or special events
