March 2020 - NEWS
Our new school day:

As per Department of Education guidelines schools were closed on Thursday 12th
March 2020. This has led to increased work being completed online. This is a stressful
time for both students and teachers and in particular, Leaving and Junior Cert pupils
while they await more information on their upcoming examinations. Working from home
can be fun and allows time for you to be creative in your working day. Pace yourself
throughout this change, it will help greatly if you stick to a regular routine and that you
take your breaks and get exercise and fresh air.

Well Done:

I would like to commend you, as students on the feedback I have received from
teachers, which is that the majority of students are engaging really well with their work
and uploading homework etc. on time. Well done on adapting so well to this new way of
school life. I know that you are missing your friends' company and social interactions so
I pray that this will not last for too long - we miss you all here too.

Social Media Expectations:
Working online:

We are always outling to our students the importance of online interaction and behaviours. Please
take care during this school closure that you follow all the guidance that you have been given in this
area. Recall our talk with Maureen Griffin in September - don’t forget the information and insights
she gave us.

It is important during this time that correct online etiquette is followed and school working hour
boundaries are in place. We want to impress upon you as students that when you are engaging with
teachers online, uploading homework and commenting on work that you remain within the Code of
Behaviour of the School. We expect your online interactions to be respectful, polite and
centred on the work being completed and not online chatter. It is not acceptable to backchat or
give your opinions on how the teaching is taking place. The teacher in the online classroom has the
same authority, care and understanding as the teacher in the physical classroom and deserves your
full work ethic and attention to detail. Please be mindful that teachers are putting a lot of time into
preparing and correcting work.

Need Help?

If you are experiencing difficulties with using the internet or with your online connection, please
inform your teachers as soon as possible. Similarly if you need your Google Classroom Code
please contact the relevant teacher. Also, please look at the two video links at the top of the bulletin
for assistance with Google Classroom.

Working with others:

Please ensure that you are equally respectful to all other students online and be aware that any
inappropriate comments will be subject to the school’s Code of Discipline and Behaviour. As always
with online comments be conscious of what you are writing and think twice before you press send.
If an inappropriate comment is uploaded by students the teacher in question will send back the
following image and a note will be kept on file by the teacher.
