2Message from the Headteacher – Alison Byrne
Welcome to St Patrick’s RC High School, where we are guided in our work by a strong Catholic
ethos, based on the Gospel Values, which drives us to be the very best we can be, by using our
God-given talents and gifts. It is our mission to ensure that our pupils experience a truly great
Catholic education that enables them to flourish academically and shine personally, preparing
them for a happy and successful adult life.
Our school motto is, ‘amazing things happen here’ and you only have to spend five minutes in
our school to realise that this is absolutely true. We have a strong and dedicated team of
professionals who challenge and support students to achieve amazing things and they work hard
to create an environment, built on mutual respect, whereby students rise to the challenges set
for them.
Because of all the amazing things here on offer at St Patrick’s, we find that our students are
mature, hard-working and happy to offer service to those less fortunate than themselves. Their
conduct, high standards and caring attitudes make us incredibly proud. With a strong academic
and moral education behind them, supported by our parents and carers, we find our students go
on to achieve great things.
We are really looking forward to welcoming our new Year 7 pupils to St. Patrick’s and we hope
that you will be very happy here. We recognise that some things will be different however this
booklet is designed to provide you with useful information that will help you feel more confident
as you transition to St Patrick’s RC High School.
3House System
All pupils at St. Patrick’s are cared for by a Form tutor, who they meet every
school morning for 30 minutes. At St. Patrick’s RC High School, we have a
vertical tutoring system, which means you will be part of a Form with pupils
from Years 7 – 10. This is a fantastic opportunity to get to know pupils from
other year groups, who will also be able to support your transition journey.
In September, you will be assigned a Form tutor and will also become a
member of a House.
There are 6 houses at St. Patrick’s RC High School:
Lowry Gainsborough Michelangelo
Mr Hindmarch Miss Hogan Miss Wood
Picasso DaVinci Renoir
Mrs Rogers Mr Mallalieu Mrs Miller
These houses are led by a Head of House. Each House has 7 Forms which are
led by a Form Tutor
4Role of the Form Tutor
Every day at 8.25am you start the morning with your Form tutor group in
your Form classroom.
The Form tutor takes the
register and leads varying
vertical tutoring activities such
as: Reading Monday, PSHE,
Numeracy Friday.
You should bring your own
reading book to Form every
Monday. You will be awarded
achievement points for this too!
Your Form tutor is there every
day to answer any questions you may have and to check your homework diary
regularly. The Form Tutor is your “parent” in school
Homework diary:
used to record any homework you receive,
should be signed by an adult every week,
your Form tutor will also sign and check your diary every week.
parent/carers can contact your Form tutor too if they have any
concerns via your homework diary.
Once a week you will have an assembly with your House. During assemblies
we share lots of good news, celebrate achievements and hand out awards.
5The School Day
These are the times of the school day. We have school bells
throughout the day but you must always wait for the teachers’
permission before leaving the classroom.
Lessons are 1 hour long.
Go to your Form Tutor Room. Form

6Timetable
Your Form tutor will hand out and talk you through your timetable on your
first day. This is an example of what a timetable looks like:
Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday
This is your Teacher; you will be given a list of names.
7My First Day
Your first day at secondary school will be one you will always remember so follow
these steps to make it a success!
The night before:
Have your bag packed ready , including
your pencil case, which should include: a
pen, pencil, ruler,
eraser and pencil sharpener.
Prepare a water bottle.
Have your named uniform laid out
ready.
Check that you know how you are
getting to school and who you are travelling with.
Set your alarm to allow you plenty of time to get up and ready.
Don’t forget your packed lunch if you choose not to use the school canteen!
On the day:
When you arrive at school, you will be directed to wait in the main hall. All
other pupils will be making their way to their Form rooms.
When everyone is in the hall, a member of the Pastoral Team will be there
to meet you.
Two members of your Form will come and collect you from the hall and take
you to your Form room where the Form tutor is waiting to meet you.
Smile at as many people as you can because they are feeling nervous too!
During Form time, you will be given your timetable and homework diary. The
other Form members will help you and take you on a tour of the school, so
that you know where to find your classrooms.
8Lockers
We do not have pegs to leave your belongings on
so if you would like a locker then please speak to
your Form Tutor on the first day of school.
You will need to pay a £5 deposit fee to have a
locker and will be given this back when you no
longer require one.
You will need to provide the padlock but you do not need to bring this in
on the first day.
Mobile Phones
We recognise that becoming more independent means
that you may well have your own mobile phone. You are
responsible not only for the safe keeping of this but
also for ensuring it remains in your bag and switched
off, so it is not seen or heard during the school day.
If you are caught using your mobile phone during
school hours it will be confiscated and taken to the
first-floor office, where you will have to pick it up at
the end of the day,
10School Uniform

School Dinners
We are lucky to have a brand-new school canteen and catering is provided for
by Spie. The Canteen is open during breakfast, breaktime and lunchtime. Hot
and cold food can be bought there, and a menu is displayed each day to tell you
what breakfast, lunch, vegetarian and lighter bite options are available.
Together, we promote healthy eating and pupils can choose healthy lunch
options from the salad bar. There is a wide choice of foods to choose from:
chicken wraps, pasta dishes, baked potatoes, a range of hot meals, soup,
deserts, snacks, fruit, milkshakes and much more.
A sample menu can be found here:
https://www.stpatricksrchigh.co.uk/documents/parents/catering/winter-menu-
week1.pdf?5a5881b2
Breakfast is available from 8.00am to 8.25am.
Lunch is from 12.15pm to 1pm.
17School Dinners
At St. Patrick’s we use a cashless catering system, whereby individual accounts
are identified by fingerprint. Your account will be set up on your first day.
Money can be added to the account by using the machines in the dining hall or
by using Tuscasi, the school’s online payment system, which can be located via
the school’s website. Pupils are limited to spending £4 per day.
Using a cashless system has many benefits including:
Children who receive free school meals remain anonymous.
Money is added automatically to the pupil’s account; avoids money
becoming lost.
Everybody pays for their meals in the same way.
Free School Meals:
Eligible students will be set up on the school system and payment automatically
arranged. If you have any questions regarding this, please contact Reception.
Packed Lunches
If you bring a packed lunch to school, you can eat this in the dining hall with the
rest of the pupils.
Stay Hydrated
Keep water on you at all times. We have water fountains
all around the school site so remember to fill up your water
bottles at break and lunch time.
18Getting Here
Transport for Greater Manchester operate several school
bus services that transport pupils to St. Patrick’s RC High
School. These include the yellow school bus service.
Details of School Bus Services and timetables are available
from: https://tfgm.com/tickets-and-passes/bus-school-bus-services
Igo Pass
Pupils who travel to us by bus, including the yellow school bus, are required to have
an igo pass, from the age of 11 to 16. This enables them to travel for the child’s
concessionary fare. Bus operators may charge a higher fare if children do not have
an igo pass.
Details of igo passes can be found here:
https://tfgm.com/tickets-and-passes/igo-pass
School buses arrive and leave at the front
of the school. Staff will be on duty at the
end of each school day to ensure you
catch your bus safely.
Bicycles
You MUST wear a helmet! Bicycles should be securely stored, with a suitable
lock, in our bike shed and NEVER ridden through school.
19Attendance
‘Make everyday count’
There are 190 school days each year and 175 non-school days.
One day a week absence is the equivalent over a school career of 2.5 whole
years of education missed.
Being frequently late for school adds up to lost learning. Arriving 15 minutes
late every day is the same as being absent for 2 weeks a year.
If you are late to school:
Your Form tutor or Head of House will speak to you about why you have been
late to school.
Dependant on the reason, you may receive a 30minute late detention at
lunchtime.
If punctuality remains a concern you may be invited into a meeting with the
school’s Attendance Officer.
You may go onto a report to monitor your punctuality
If the school bus is late, this will not affect your attendance.
We aim for pupils to have as near to 100% attendance as
possible and reward those who manage this. Every week
pupils are given their attendance figures during Form time,
which should be recorded in the homework diary.
20Attendance
If you cannot come to school your parents/carer should
telephone school and speak to our receptionist. If the
school is not aware of your absence they will try to contact
your parents/carer to check that you are safe.
Need to go to the Dentist or Doctor during school time?
Hopefully your appointment can be made outside of school hours, however if
this is unavoidable:
Bring a note in your homework diary
from your parents and show it to your
Form tutor and staff in the main
office.
Before you leave for the appointment
you must sign out in Reception.
When you come back into school, sign
in at Reception again. This is for your
safety so that we know where our
pupils are.
21Medication
If you need to take medicine whilst at
school, you need to make sure that the
Medical Team in Pupil Services know.
Your parents/carers must fill in a
medication consent form and bring it into
school along with your prescribed
medicine. Make sure it is clearly labelled
with your name and Form tutor group and
take it to the Medical Room at Pupil Services. They will keep it safe there for
you.
Asthma
If you suffer from Asthma, your parents will be asked to complete an Asthma
card form. This can be collected from Pupil Services.
Pupils Services can be located on the first floor opposite the boy’s toilets.
22Learning Resource Centre
(LRC)
Open before Form time, break time, lunch time and
afterschool.
We have a fantastic library here and it’s all
yours! You can borrow up to 3 books at a
time however it is important to return
books and not just put them back on the
shelves yourself.
There is a wide selection of books available
and our Librarian Mrs Parker will be happy
to help you find one that you will enjoy.
There are also several pupil Librarians to help you. You could
become a pupil Librarian too!
We ask everyone to respect others who have come to the LRC to
study and read.
There will be a poster displayed in your Form room which tells you when it is your
year groups turn to use the LRC.
The more you read, the more thing you will know.
The more you learn, the more places you’ll go”

24Achievements and Rewards
Achievement Points
What do points make? PRIZES!
Rewards in school are given out by teachers via a
system called SIMS. This is an online register that
allows staff to award individual pupils achievement
points.
Achievement points can be awarded for all sorts of
reasons such as:
Being a good citizen.
Putting a 100% effort in your class work or homework.
Participating in a club.
Bringing your own book to school on Reading Monday.
Being a good role model.
These achievement points add up and each term pupils with more than 200
achievement points receive extra special rewards, including attending the trip to
Alton Towers at the end of the school year.
Behaviour Points
However, you may receive behaviour points for poor behaviour and effort. These
will affect your achievement points tally so make sure you do not receive (if any)
behaviour points.
Your Form Tutor will show you the full list of reasons why
you may receive achievement or behaviour points.
25St Patrick’s Community
It is important that we are all part of a community that allows everyone to feel
safe and happy, both inside and outside of school.
To do this we must all:
Know the school rules about our behaviour and stick to them.
Be respectful of our environment by taking care of our school and putting
litter in the bins and not graffitiing.
When leaving school, respect our neighbours by walking to the bus/home
sensibly.
Know that aerosols, smoking, energy drinks and chewing gum are not allowed
in school.
Be Kind to others (you will receive achievement points for being a good
citizen).
Treat others in the way we would like them to treat us.
Leave valuable items at home.
26Pastoral Care
We believe that everyone deserves recognition and respect as befits a unique
and important being created in the image of God.
There is a Safeguarding Team at St Patrick’s RC High School to talk to if you
feel unsafe or are concerned about yourself or another pupil.
They are:
Designated Safeguarding Leader: Pastoral Director:
Mr M Connelly Mr D Macafee
Associate Pastoral Director:
Mrs L Gardiner.
Your Form tutor and Head of House are also there to support you in school
academically and personally.
27SEND Team
We believe all children and young people are entitled to an education that enables
them to make progress and achieve. At St Patrick’s RC High School we have a SEND
team that is committed to removing barriers and supporting pupils to allow them
to do this.
Various means of support are available including in-class support, meet & greet
support, personal care, interventions and the use of specialist equipment.
Director OF SEND: Assistant SENCO:
Mr L Barrie Mrs C Bradford
28Y6 ‘All About Me’ Summer
Project
St Patrick’s RC High School is one big family and we always look forward to
welcoming our new Year 7 pupils in September. In order to get to know you better,
we ask you to complete a small project in preparation for Year 7.
Normally, during your transition visit in Year 6 you would have been given a Y6 ‘All
About Me’ Summer Project. Don’t worry, this can be downloaded and printed from
the school’s website: https://www.stpatricksrchigh.co.uk/parents/transition-from-primary-
school/
Alternatively, you could create your own ‘All About Me’ project by using the following
headings:
All about me and my family.
My Primary School experiences.
A Memorable Day.
My hopes and dreams for the future.
You could present your project as a poster, poem, a PowerPoint presentation or
booklet of your own with a colourful front cover.
Every pupil who completes the project will receive achievement points, a star badge
and some lucky pupils will be given prizes for outstanding efforts.
Hand in your project to Miss Tandy in room S17.
