Summer Programs

Improv continues to be one of the fastest growing performing arts in the US. It’s in movies,
TV shows, Broadway, and now right here in Burlington!
ComedySportz, the longest-running show in Philadelphia history, is bringing its Intro to
Improv Workshop this summer to Burlington County Parks. This workshop is a great way for
individuals to find their creative side, regardless of their performing experience.
We'll teach you the basics: agreement (“yes, and-ing”), active listening, commitment,
working as a team, taking risks, and being present in the moment, and then apply those skills
to some of our favorite games like Try That On For Size, Dr. Know It All, and Advice Panel.
You'll learn how to improvise in an inclusive and welcoming environment and have lots of fun
doing it. No two classes will ever be the same!

The Timuctoo Advisory Committee is proud to present a
new book by Christopher P. Barton, assistant professor
of archaeology at Francis Marion University. The
Archaeology of Race and Class at Timbuctoo is the first
book to examine the historic Black community of
Timbuctoo, New Jersey, which was founded in 1826 by
formerly enslaved migrants from Maryland and served
as a stop on the Underground Railroad. In collaboration
with descendants and community members,
Christopher Barton explores the intersectionality of life
at Timbuctoo and the ways Black residents resisted the
marginalizing structures of race and class.

I Must Betray You is a startling historical thriller by New York Times best-selling and award winning
author, Ruta Sepetys. Imagine a world where your career and housing are assigned, your electricity and
nourishment are controlled, where your every move is tracked and monitored by hidden surveillance
devices, a world where you are denied the most fundamental human right: choice. This may sound like a
world of fiction, but it is not. This was the dynasty of dictator Nicolae Ceausescu, a regime that Romanians
were forced to endure while fenced off from the rest of the world. This is the story of a brave young man
who risks everything to search for the truth, change, and freedom. Although I Must Betray You is historical
fiction, the Ceausescu dictatorship and the suffering of countless Romanians were real, yet their story is
unfamiliar to many. We hope you will join us because, in the words of the author, “When history lies
hidden in the shadows, those connected to that history often feel misunderstood. But together, as
readers, we have an opportunity to shine a light into the darker corners of the past, to learn, grow, and
honor the brave souls who experienced it.”

Some of the processes used to make this imagery

Hand-tinted gelatin silver prints. Each approach
relies on the energy of light to make the artist’s
