OUR STORY

The Malcolm Hotel is proudly built on the traditional territories of the Niitsitapi (Blackfoot
Confederacy) and the people of the Treaty 7 region in Southern Alberta. The history
surrounding us comes alive as we reflect on the namesake of “Canmore” and the family
heritage of the Kernick family who have owned the land which the Malcolm Hotel has been
passionately built for over 100 years.

Originally a dairy farm supplying milk for the local miners, Spring Creek has gone through
many phases over the years including an RV and caravan park which housed many local
Canmore families. The master vision of Spring Creek has now come to life with the addition
of a senior’s village, several condos, locally owned shops and operated services, and of
course the beautiful and unparalleled Malcolm Hotel.

Officially opened on November 3, 2018, The Malcolm Hotel boasts 124 rooms, a full-service
conference facility, Stirling Grill & Lounge, Three Sisters patio, outdoor heated pool, two hot
tubs and a breathtaking outdoor firepit. Our team here at the Malcolm Hotel are leaders in
service excellence and are here to provide you with a #Legendary experience.

I invite you to join us on our social media sites to share your experience with your fellow
travelers. If you require any assistance at all during your stay, please do not hesitate to let us
know how we may be of assistance.

Yours in hospitality,
Andrew Shepherd

unusual variety of foods from an early age. In the culinary industry for 25 years, I have had
to opportunity to travel experience the world with this career. I started my career right out
of school with formal training, a great attitude and some good luck to get into the right

ICE WALKS

ATHABASCA GLACIER ICE WALKS
Welcome to a world where snow and ice, rock and sky dominate the land. A world where
nature rules and humans look on in awe. The Columbia Icefield is the largest mass of ice
in the Rocky Mountains. Straddling the boundaries of Alberta and British Columbia as well
as Banff and Jasper National Parks, the icefield stretches for more than 25 km across the
Continental Divide. Its snowmelt flows across North America to the Atlantic, the Arctic and
the Pacific Oceans. The most accessible part of the Icefield is the Athabasca Glacier, a six
kilometre tongue of ice, just kilometers from the Icefields Parkway. During the summer,
guides lead adventure seekers from around the world onto this slow-moving river of ice. It’s
a world few people ever see, let alone experience first-hand.

ICEWALK IN THE AFTERNOON
This tour explores the lower two kilometers of the Athabasca Glacier. Throughout the
trip, short stops are made to introduce the concepts of active glaciation and features of a
glacially carved landscape.

ICEWALK DELUXE
These hikes are for those who wish to see as much as possible glacier ice on a full day
trip. Excursions are relatively strenuous. In the upper sections of this trip, you will have the
opportunity to peek into crevasses, gawk at towering Serac’s of ice and perhaps witness an
avalanche or two.

ICE CUBED
Tour explores the lower half of the Athabasca Glacier and offers superb views of glacial
features, ice carved landscapes and other alpine glaciers. Throughout the trip, short stops
are made to introduce the concepts of active glaciation and features of a glacially carved
landscape.

VIA FERRATA

Banff’s “Via Ferrata” (Italian for the “Iron Road”), is a must-do experience for thrill seekers.
It’s a different kind of mountaineering – led by a certified guide, you’ll climb your way up
the cliffs above Banff’s Mt Norquay ski area. Guided by a series of cables, fixed anchors,
ladders and a suspension bridge, the thrill is there but so are safety procedures. No climbing
experience is necessary. We recommend that you are physically fit enough to climb a
ladder and bring a spirit for adventure. EXPLORER ROUTE This tour involves spending a few
hours with your guide, getting introduced to the equipment, heading up a few pitches and
crossing the suspension bridge. *Activity will cover 1 km distance and 145 m elevation gain.

SKYLINE ROUTE
Launched in 2017, Skyline includes an exciting high traverse on a sheer rock wall and
crosses an “airy” 55m suspension bridge. Your effort is amply rewarded at the top, with
outstanding panoramic views where the Rocky Mountains stretch out in every direction. With
Banff as a backdrop over 1000 metres below, enjoy the uber-scenic ridgecrest descent as it
leads you back to the Cliffhouse Bistro to celebrate your mountaineering accomplishments.
*Activity will cover 2.5 km distance and 290 m elevation gain.

SUMMITEER ROUTE
The Summiteer is the apex experience for Norquay’s Via Ferrata, and the longest of all 4
routes. A continuation of the Skyline route, this 6-hour adventure traverses the alpine ridge
and crosses an additional three-wire suspension bridge over an impressive couloir. Be awed
by the breathtaking 360-degree views of the Canadian Rockies as you enjoy a well-earned
(and included) lunch on the East Summit of Mt Norquay. After your tour, unwind and share in
the stoke at the Cliffhouse Bistro with a beverage and appetizers – also included in your tour.
*Activity will cover 3.2 km distance and 360 m elevation gain.

                                                                                                   21
