The difference between mineral and chemical filters is in the way the
formula protects from UV rays. Chemical filters, composed of organic
molecules (oxybenzone is the most common), penetrate the epidermis to
absorb UV rays instead of the skin. Mineral filters, on the other hand,
do not penetrate the epidermis, they settle on the skin to reflect UV
rays like a screen.
Chemical filters have the disadvantage of being allergenic, unlike
mineral filters without nanoparticles. Another drawback against
chemical filters; they only start working half an hour after the
application (time to penetrate the skin), while a mineral cream acts
immediately!
