Installation of New Officers! Darisa Laurens
On May 15, 2018, Kay Alley performed the Installation of Officers for the Good Luck on your
Private Pilot Written
2018-2019 year at Million Air in Addison, TX. Officers include: Chairman,
Exam this week!
Laurie Adams Peake; Vice-Chairman, Lynnette Bascom; Treasurer, Holly
Barr; and Secretary, Peggy Pierce. We had the pleasure of having South
Central Section Vice-Governor, Monica Graham, in attendance. Juanita
Attaway stood in for Lynnette Bascom in her absence.

At the business meeting, the group discussed upcoming events and
fundraisers. Please feel free to suggest ideas for either to your newly elected
officers!

Dallas Love Field 5k
A few of our members participated in the 5K at
Dallas Love Field on May 12, 2018. The race was on
Runway 13L starting at 8:00am behind the Frontiers
of Flight Museum. After the race, everyone enjoyed
water and snacks while they watched the Award
Ceremony.
A little fun fact: The airport was named after
Lt. Moss Lee Love, who began his Army career
serving with the famed 7th Cavalry in the
Philippines. 2018 marks the 101st Anniversary of
Dallas Love Field, which now operates nearly 700
flights per day.

99s Movie Night
Lynnette Bascom hosted the Chapter
Meeting and Movie night at her home in
Flowermound, TX on April 16, 2018. Those
in attendance were Laurie Adams Peake,
Beth Polcari, Kay Alley, Ann Reed, Holly Barr,
Lynnette Bascom, and Juanita Attaway. The
ladies relaxed in plush black recliners as they
enjoyed watching A Tale of Two Sisters. A
movie about Amelia Earhart and her sister.
The Colorado Ninety-Nines has invited us
to The Warbird Auto Classic held in
Feel like a cross country trip to Watkins, CO on July 28, 2018 from
8:00am-2:00pm. It is is a charity event

Girls In Flight Training (GIFT)
Marla Eisenberg volunteered for the Girls In Flight Training
(GIFT) Academy in Lancaster, TX June 3-9, 2018. Juanita
Attaway and Darisa Laurens were scholarship recipients for
the Academy. The ladies went through an intensive ground
school and received flight time.
GIFT is specifically for women ages 18 and up. It is meant
to assist students in understanding basics of flight, the joy,
safety, dispel myths and fears, passing the written tests,
and/or prepare for an oral and practical test.

Karen Johnson Solo Scholarship
The 99s are accepting applications for the 2018 Karen Johnson Solo Scholarship. This
$3,000 scholarship provides funding for flight training through first solo and beyond for young
women between 16-20 years of age (at any time in 2018) who want to learn to fly.
Applications are due by July 1. Information on how to apply and a scholarship flyer can be
found at www.kjsolocholarship.com.
The scholarship will be awarded at the July 24th 99s Aviation Appreciation Dinner at Oshkosh.

The Solo Scholarship has enabled the 99s to extend our outreach to college aviation
departments as well as to high school students. Each year dozens of applicants join the 99s.
