Advisory Committee Meeting
The Recreation Advisory Committee meets on the first Monday of each month (unless it's a holiday, in which
case they meet on the second Monday) at 7:00pm. The location may change. Call the Recreation Department
at 914-742-2310 if you would like to attend a meeting. The ideas and suggestions of the residents are greatly
appreciated.

Participation & Fees
Participation is available to residents of the Town of Mt. Pleasant. Village residents and Non-Residents are
welcome to participate by paying a 20% surcharge. Senior Citizens age 60 and over who live in the Town are
entitled to a 25% reduction in program fees for all adult programs unless indicated otherwise. Discounts do
not apply to trips, drop in programs, and special events. Proof of age is required. The Department reserves the
right to photograph program participants for publicity purposes.

Payments
Accepted forms of payment are credit card, cash, or check. Bounced check fee is $25.00.

Program Behavior
Participants are expected to exhibit appropriate behavior at all times. The following guidelines have been
developed to make programs safe and enjoyable for all participants. Additional rules may be developed for
particular programs and athletic leagues as deemed necessary by staff. Participants must:
     show respect to all participants and staff,
     refrain from using foul language.
     refrain from causing bodily harm to other participants and staff.
     show respect for equipment, supplies, and facilities.
The Recreation Department has the right to dismiss any participant that does not follow the behavior policy.
No refunds will be granted.

Activity Changes/Schedules
Due to circumstances beyond our control, some activities may require time or location changes.
All participants will be notified by email when possible if a change or cancellation occurs.

Insurance
The Town of Mt. Pleasant does not provide accident insurance for any of its programs. All persons
participate at their own risk and should make certain they have their own insurance. A COVID-19 waiver
must be filled out upon participation or renting.

Waiting List
    If your desired class is filled, you will be notified and placed on a waiting list. The department will make
    every effort to accommodate those on the waiting list. If any openings become available, we will then go to
    the waiting list to fill the class. Programs will require advance planning so please register early.

    Refunds and Program Cancellations
    Refunds are granted only if a program is cancelled. Any other refund request must be in writing and will be
    reviewed by the Superintendent of Recreation and if granted, will be subject to a 20% processing fee. The
    Recreation and Parks Department reserves the right to cancel any program and issue appropriate refunds
    whenever it is considered in the best interest of the Department.

    Town of Mt. Pleasant Historian
    Town Historian James Maxwell is seeking photos and stories to add to the Town’s and the Mount Pleasant
    Historical Society’s collection of historical photos, documents and post cards in order to create presentations
    portraying happenings, special moments and places in the Town’s History. If you have photos that you would
    like to share, please e-mail a copy in a jpg format, along with a brief description of what the photo represents
    and approximate photo date to: jmaxwell@mtpleasantny.com.

    Picnic Facilities
    The Town allows group picnics at Broadway Field and Bradhurst Park. Picnic permits are required and may
    be obtained at the Recreation Office. Reserve your space early. All permits are granted on a first come, first
    served basis. Picnic areas can be reserved one year in advance. The Town reserves the right to cancel any
    permit with a full refund if the Town needs the facility for a Town sponsored program. Visit our website for
    details. Must reserve in person. Subject to COVID-19 guidelines.

    Community Center Rental
    The Community Center is available for use on a rental basis for individuals and organizations within the
    Town of Mt. Pleasant. Please visit our website for more details. Must reserve in person. Subject to COVID-
    19 guidelines.

    Community Sign Board
    Community signboards are maintained by the Recreation and Parks Department for the posting of upcoming
    community events. A single sign is located in Hawthorne, Valhalla, and at the Thornwood Water District
    Field. A frame with space for 2 signs is located at Rose Hill Shopping Center in Thornwood. For additional
    information on the use of the signs and to reserve space contact the Recreation Office at 914-742-2310.

    Mt. Pleasant Branch Library
    The Mt. Pleasant Branch Library, located at the Community Center, offers a variety of reading, viewing, and
    listening materials for adults, teens, and children. The library’s collection for adults focuses on new popular
    material including the latest fiction, nonfiction, and DVD’s and our collections for children are chosen to
    develop language skills and nourish imaginations. Additionally, digital books, audiobooks, music, movies,
    and TV shows can be downloaded or streamed for free using your library card. We have resumed most of our
    regular hours and our book drop is available for returning materials 24/7. Access to Wi-Fi, public computers,
    printing, and photocopying are also available. Please call the library or visit our online calendar for

ACTIVITY REGISTRATION METHODS
       Program Registration will begin on Tuesday, March 14th at 10:00 a.m.
  Non-Resident Program Registration will begin on Friday, March 17th at 10:00 a.m.

Non-Resident Camp Registration will begin on Thursday, June 1st at 10:00 a.m. if space

     Online Registration is HIGHLY recommended. In order to register online you must create an
      account prior to registration opening.
      1. Call the Recreation Department at 914-742-2310 and ask to create an account.
      2. Please be prepared to provide the following information:
          Account Holder’s name
          Address of household
          Phone number(s)
          Email address
          Each member of your family’s name, date of birth, and grade (if applicable)
      3. The Recreation Department will then provide an explanation of where to log in, what your
         username is and how to set your password.

      Mail-in registrations can be sent to the Recreation office. Beginning on Tuesday, March 14th at
      10:00a.m. They will be entered at random despite date of arrival in office. Registration form
      REQUIRED.

ZUMBA BABIES AND TOTS
Instructor: Peggy Raiskums
This program is for parent/caregiver and child 1-3 years old. This class is a fun dance-n-play party for little feet, where these
pint-sized party animals get silly and begin their journey to a healthy future. Age appropriate music and props are used to
help children learn to love moving their bodies and dancing to their own rhythm. Max 10 participants.

This program is to help children to learn the art of cooking and baking! Children will prepare, cook, and eat their own
foods! This program will enhance many skills such as early math skills, pre-reading skills and language skills as they learn
about measuring, counting, and word and symbol recognition. Parents are invited to arrive 15 minutes prior to class
ending, to enjoy their child’s cooking creation. PLEASE INFORM THE RECREATION OFFICE OF ANY FOOD
ALLERGIES. This is a drop off class. Maximum of 8 participants each class.

MT. PLEASANT AMERICAN HERITAGE GOJU KARATE 2023
Additional $15.00 discount per additional child.
Official uniform and school patch are required and can be purchased through the instructor.
Our program is designed to train the students to further develop their basic motor skills, balance, and hand-eye
coordination. Our classes are a perfect blend of focus, fitness, and fun while they are learning fundamental martial art skills
and acquiring others constructively. Students in this class will be taught a wide variety of self-defense techniques in a
motivating, structured, safe and friendly environment. For the individual that does not do well in team sports, our program
is designed for Individual Growth for Individual Achievement, which results in a confidence boost. Our instructors use
drills that are exciting and motivating, encouraging all to do their best through positive reinforcement. Non-aggressive self-
defense skills are taught at a speed and level that is appropriate for this age group. Male and Female instructors focus on
Individual Growth for Individual Achievement! Maximum of 25 participants per session.

CHESS WITH THE US SENIOR CHAMPION CANCELLED
Instructor: Nathan Resika
Study chess with the US Senior Champion and have fun while you learn! Chess is perhaps the greatest game of skill in the
world. It blends elements of sport, science, and art and is proven to help increase a student’s ability to concentrate on other
subjects. It instills qualities including foresight and abstract thinking, as well as helps a student understand that there are
consequences to their actions. Strategies will be studied on a large demonstration board on the wall. A question-and-answer
session will be followed by playtime to apply what students learn. All supplies are included. Maximum of 16 participants.

Some of the weekly topics in this session include: Planets and Moons, Atmosphere and Beyond, Space Phenomena, Sun
and Stars, Rocket Science parts 1 and 2, Space Travel, Space Technology, Living in Space. Minimum of 9 participants.

Are you ready for an art expedition? Let the wonder and beauty of the animal kingdom inspire your empathy, curiosity, and
creativity. Learn about lions, elephants, sharks and more, and find out how wildlife conservationists are working to protect
species around the globe. Experiment with a variety of art techniques using Crayola® products to create animal-inspired
art projects, from frog paintings to polar bear sculptures! Let your creativity run wild and bring your handiwork home to
build a menagerie of animal-themed masterpieces. Minimum of 9 participants. Maximum of 15 participants.

  Children living in the unincorporated portions of the Town of Mt. Pleasant, Mt. Pleasant School District
   residents, and Valhalla School District residents are eligible to enroll in the Mt. Pleasant Day Camps.

                                 MEDICAL INFORMATION
   Per the New York State and the Westchester County Department of Health, proof of vaccination from a
 doctor must be provided. Those with religious exemptions must provide a letter from a recognized religious
                                       leader on official letter head.
 Please note: If your child is required to take medication at camp, a separate form must be completed by the
   parent/guardian and the child’s physician. The medication should be brought on the first day of camp.

             immunization information must be completed by Friday, June 16, 2023 in order for a

                                              PAYMENT
   A discount of $50.00 is provided for each additional child in the same family who attends the Mt.
           Pleasant Day Camp program. This does not include Sports Camp and Tennis.
          There is a LATE REGISTRATION FEE (after 05/5/2023) per child of $50.00

     charged a fee of $20.00 every 15 minutes. THERE WILL BE NO AFTER CARE CLUB ON THE LAST DAY

     TRANSPORTATION
     (Summer Fun, Great Ventures, Great Escape)
     The Town provides transportation to and from Summer Fun, Great Ventures and Great Escape at limited bus stops
     within the Town. These stops are located at: Hawthorne Elementary School parking lot, Carroll Park and the Easter
     Seals building (formally Valhalla Columbus Avenue School). There is no transportation provided for Mini Mount and
     Teenscape campers.
     The fee for this service is $103.00 per camper for the season. The drop off times and pick up times for each site will
     be available at Parent Orientation.

      Programs offered by North East Westchester Special Recreation, an agency supported and sponsored by Mt.
     Pleasant, are available to children and adults with developmental disabilities from our community. North East
        programs offer a variety of year round recreation activities for all ability levels, designed with the specific
        support needed for participant success in this environment. Programs are highly structured, professionally

      The North East Westchester Summer Day Camp Program provides an opportunity for children and teens, ages
     4 - 20 with developmental disabilities to experience the benefits of participating in a local community day camp
       program. Participants enjoy a six week program packed with a variety of special activities designed with the
         specific support needed for success in this environment. We provide at least a 1:3 staff ration, individual
            assessment, on-going evaluation and collaboration with family, school personnel, and other outside
        professionals. Camp will include swimming, field trips, and transportation will be provided. For additional

The Office of Elder Americans offers support and guidance to individuals and families living within the unincorporated areas of the Town of
Mount Pleasant, including Thornwood, Hawthorne and Valhalla.

The purpose of the Office is to provide services and support that reduce social isolation allowing the individual to be maintained in their
home environment, preserving their dignity and independence.

NUTRITION PROGRAMS
You must call ahead two business days if you wish to participate, attend or need transportation for the following programs:

*The Pleasant Lunch Bunch (3 days/week) M, W, F
Community Center 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. A nutritious hot lunch is provided as well as nutrition education. Activities include bingo, cards
and friendship!
*Bradhurst Nutrition Center (2 days/week) T, Th
Bradhurst Community Center 11:00 am. to 2:00 p.m. Frail and/or socially isolated individuals are provided therapeutic activities,
socialization, and a hot lunch in a warm, supportive setting. This atmosphere also provides respite for caregivers.
*Home Delivered Meals (5 days/Week, Monday – Friday)
Up to two nutritious meals a day can be provided for any person 60 years or older who are frail, isolated, homebound individuals, unable to
meet his/her nutritional needs because of difficulty in shopping and preparing meals. This program is available on a temporary or on-going
basis.

HEALTH AND SUPPORT SERVICES
Information, referral and or assistance with issues pertaining to the senior population such as entitlements, benefits and home health care.

*Weekly shopping trip to local supermarkets on Tuesdays.
 Please limit your groceries to only two bags.
 Should be able to carry them without help.
 The 1st, 3rd & 5th weeks of the month we shop at Shop Rite.
 The 2nd & 4th weeks of the month we shop at Acme
 Reservations for shopping are taken the TUESDAY before the week you want to shop on a first come first serve basis.

CONTRIBUTIONS
For services indicated *, a contribution is requested. Call OEA Office for more information. No individual is denied a meal or transportation
services if they are unable or unwilling to meet the suggested contribution.

Employment opportunities, community service, internship and a variety of volunteer experiences are also available. For information, call

 Club meetings are held every Thursday at the Mt. Pleasant Community Center located at 125 Lozza Drive, Valhalla, NY. Meetings are
  held from 11:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. There are no meetings on holidays. Coffee is available as is the opportunity to socialize with your
   friends, old and new. All persons 60 years of age and older, living in the Town of Mt. Pleasant, are eligible to join the club. New
                                               members and ideas are always welcome!
                                                SENIOR CITIZEN DISCOUNTS
   Town Residents over 60 years of age are entitled to discounts of 25% on all programs listed in the Adult Programs sections of this
                                               brochure except trips and special events.
